Rant: Doorway syndrom

(Ragnar_40k) #1

I notice increased cowardice(?) by some ET players. They move forward from spawn like all other players, but when it comes to a firefight they back off - usually blocking reinforcements.

Especially apparent is this on Battery, Allied side, after the forward bunker is taken:

Case 1a): The player runs forwards and is one of the first. He throws/shoots his grande/panzer/rifle nade/smoke canister and … backs off, then he halts in a doorway waiting for the next enemy panzer/rifle nade, which kills him and all other players he blocked. Respawn.

Case 1b): The player runs forwards and is somewhere in the middle. From here like case 1a), so he divides the team into two parts. The players before him get wasted, because they are outnumbered. The players behind him are blocked - until the next enemy panzer/rifle nade. Respawn.

Case 2: The player found a relativly save camping position, but usually he blocks the way there. So, after you got around him (wasting precious stamina), his only purpose seems to be, to shot you in the back (with rifle nades, granades and everything else he has) while trying to hit the enemy. You die, he maybe scores a kill.

You can see this behavior on several maps, esp. in narrow places where the enemy has a strong defence.

So:

  1. MOVE FORWARD.
  2. DO NOT BLOCK.

Esp. as attacker your respawn time is usually 20 sec. while the defender has a respawn time of 30sec.

F!!!

Push function.

(TFate) #3

The push function only works on shrub or pro servers which has it enabled. Best you can do is frag em till it’s pounded into his head. :bash:

(ECE-666) #4

He will just complain every timeyou kill ,learning nothing as he doesn’t understand why you kill him. That way you not only have a chance of getting kicked, you also lose XP

(TFate) #5

Well it always makes me feel better.

I guess you could just kick him.

I’ve noticed the total lack of aggression or more to the point the “fear of dying” from players is much worse now than it was when I started playing ET.

the biggest frustration I have with pubs is the “pacifist allies” types of players.

you know, the 14 guys on gold rush who will all stand around by the truck or up on the bridge and let 2 guys rush the bank by themselves for 15 minutes…

:banghead:

And the “bottle necking” players are without a doubt the biggest pain in the ass for a team.
Honestly if you are one of those players who just trots out of spawn at a normal running pace, just turn around and fire a panzer at your team and kill them all.

By not sprinting out of spawn with the dash key you are condemning the people behind you to death, pure and simple.

People constantly piss and moan about spawn killing but if the majority of players in this game would take the time to bind a key to “+sprint” and use the damn thing when you spawn, 99% of the time the entire team would make it well beyond the danger zone while protected by the 3 second spawn shield.

walking out of spawn or not dashing out of spawn when you know there is going to be arty/mortars coming at your exit, is just as bad as tking imo.

lmao.

I see a mod coming up - if a player doesn’t get in the enemy’s face for a certain time, they are automatically warped to a wall somewhere and SHOT!

(Riftgarde) #8

I try to pick a new route when I see cowering players, players cowering at a doorway means there will be enemies waiting on the other side or a panzer shot about to fly in.

works for me.

:blah:

actually I think a mod where the tug on railgun glowed bright pink and had a giant “follow this thing if you are a nazi” sign over it would be great.

maybe a giant flashing “LIVE NUDE GIRLS” neon banner between all those palm trees on goldrush that pointed in the direction of the bank would help to get people motivated on offensive rushes too.

There’s a careful balance between being a worthless bottlenecker and actually having some tactics. I often duck aside or out of firefights to prime grenades or reload. If there is heavy fighting I’ll either take point and soak up fire for my teammates, or lurk behind and clean up the enemies once my team has injured them. As anyone who’s played with me for long can tell you, I’m a right annoyance with grenades, and I’ve managed to kill entire teams and get that oh-so-crucial plant several times with this kind of tactic.

Anyways… my point is simply that, although most people who do this are wussies and afraid of taking fire, there is sometimes some shrewd planning going on beneath the surface.

(G0-Gerbil) #11

Yeah there’s definately a difference between being a coward and employing tactics to stay alive.
EG backing off as medic, or if you know of a health cache or something.
But I do hate axis on goldrush, you just KNOW there’ll be something nasty waiting outside, so you try to rush it with invulnerabilty, only for the single player in front t o see smoke and… stop.
Then, if the FFE doesn’t get you and half the spawn, the inevitable panzer will.
It’s got to the point that I’ll never ever use that exit, I always go out the other or go round the back of the bank if needs be.

cannot be anymore true. I know a few guys in clan Deliverance like to do an airstrike spawn kill, especially on Oasis. I’m not complaining or anything, cuz I do it myself. I usually get more pissed off at my teammates cuz they’re not busting their asses to get outta spawn.

And they stand around trying to kill the spawn killing field ops when inevitably, the airstrike the FO just throw is about to obliterate himself. But takes everyone down with him.

I avoided the spawn kill plenty of times when I spawned in the front of the pack and dashed my ass outta there. Of course, when I spawned in the rear rank, I hadda deal with some slow ass in front of me as the bombs fell on us, so not so lucky there.

(evilsock) #13

Crouch. If your backing out of a firefight to reload, prime a nade (or rearrange your hair, clothing etc) and find yourself in a situation where potentially you will block your teammates, just crouch. Only a dumbass will fail to see what your doing. If you are backing out of a firefight, just make sure you give yourself covering fire by facing and shooting the direction your retreating from.

Sprint is still the best kept secret on pubs tbh.

Q. Is it better to die in a 1 v 1 (or 2 or 3 or more) than to startle your enemy, retreat, re-supply your team mates then rejoin the assault in greater numbers?

(Mark.C) #14

Ill always step in and take a panzer hit if it means my engineers survive

(ElderNewb) #15

This can be very annoying esp. when you can’t push them. But i have also found myself doing it admittedly but only for one reason. It occurs mostly on Oasis when the tank is at the first barrier, or maybe just over the bridge. An allies field ops has put airstrike in front pf the main spawn exit. While i am coming put of the main exit i would slow or stop and then time my run to get past the a/strike without getting taken.

Would this be wrong?

(yes i know there are other exits but i try to justify using the main one with the fact that i would be there for a few seconds extra)

(BondyBoy007) #16

you could try doing it on oasis, but you lost me when you started talking about the tank and barriers

But if you mean Goldrush then you could do it, it’s more risky than the other exit, likely to annoy some players who are trying to get out with some invunerability left and there may be two art’s called in the area and a panzer overlooking the exit leaving an even smaller chance of getting out alive

(mouse) #17

btw, comment on the post of The_Jesus_Zeppelin, shove doesnt work while players are invulnerable. O so irritating on goldrush, dyna has been planted, you are respawning and 2 players in front of you block the way by standing still. You cant shoot them or shove them for the first 3 seconds…

(ElderNewb) #18

soz bondyboy i did actaully mean Goldrush shame :banghead: from the start. I see where you are coming from . That’s why i would only consider doing it when the tank is around the first barrier

(schmeisser) #19

The “F” key is getting a bit too much use on some maps, IMO. Running out tof the Allied spawn in the tunnels, rather than sprinting, seems fine. You usually need the sprint getting behind sniper hill, or some other situation inside the tunnels. I can’t remember the last time I got spawnraped on Fuel Dump. I usually just sprint out the spawn door, then get to one side and let the lunatics sprint by. Even then, I get pushed from behind for the hell of it. Some people just like to do it.
