Ranked server problem

(BlueRed) #1

Hi all

i am the admin of the JESUS-ranked and all the other JESUS-unranked Servers.

Our ranked servers crash from time to time…
befor the crash ocours i can moitor a very high load on the RAM following from load Spikes on the CPU.

On the attached picture you can see a crash at about 17:30 you will see a increase in memory consumption. I have sheduled a restart a 7:00 (look at the ram consumption).

The Ranked machine is a DELL quadcore xeon with 3 Ghz running on CENTOS 5 linux.
But we have also checked and verified it on 3 other Servers … its not Hardware related.

I have experienced that problem at 2 Providers…

4netplayers and now at I3D

4netplayers
They where not intressted in helping me with that problem…i have cancled the contract asap.

I3D is the best provider ever, they have a great team and a great support… but in this case they can not do anything cause its a problem of the dedicated.

Is it possible to arrange a connection between splashdamage and I3d to slove our problem.

b.t.e. my unranked server has an uptime of about 3 weeks without a crash (DualCore 2,4 Ghz, 2 Gb Ram, running also on Centos linux)

i dont think so SD can solve your problem.
About i3d.net… well, i was their customer too, but never again. asking 70 or more eur per month for bad services its a nonsense. our server from them was most of the time down.

(BlueRed) #3

Thx for your response…

but i cannot confirm that i have experienced a very good support there…
they have tried everything to solve my problems.

Just a question wich hoster do you use at the moment?

(brbrbr) #4

any activity analysis was made ?
i mean you can actually track down resource consumption. per software components.
which any software engineers do numerous times[not only in QA terms].

(AnthonyDa) #5

Stats= cancer, your server is sick.

(brbrbr) #6

i don’t think exact problem is somewhat related to statistics itself as well as server status otherway.
point is, something hurt server performance, cause resources utilization.
aside 300FPS players with poor ISP connections, cheaters, there is can be plenty of reason for this.
thre is plenty of tools for discovering Exact cause.

(BlueRed) #7

In the logfile it looks like a normal mapchange … but the server crashs in this moment

And please this is a discussion about a serverproblem and NOT A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE STATS!!

PunkBuster Server: Lost Connection (slot #1) xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx

All players get a disconnect and the server is hanging.
Any ideas?

For now we have cleaned up the Servers temp files and rebooted the server hardware…
I will keep you informed if this works or not…

(brbrbr) #8

i guess, someone exploit undisocvered[yet]ETQW server vulnerability.
but my guessing not matter, cause you should KNOW what happening[actually].

(_milla) #9

bluered, try to reset your server and update punkbuster again.
about providers, good are: gameservers.com, rackage.com and swissquake.ch

rackage.com: best support ever, in eu cheapest server provider, tons of free stuff for long term customers,(good customer can deal about server costs and so on)

gameservers.com: cheapest servers ever (from $6 per server per month), good ping for US players, fastest refund:) but bad support

swissquake.ch: no server crashes at all

(AnthonyDa) #10

Don’t forget that daily reset is reducing the lag. (at least, it used to be like that when i ran my own ranked serv in the old times).

(fzl) #11

best server hoster is k-play

nice pings,no lags…

greetz fzl:eek:

how about Macron industries hosting platform ?

(BlueRed) #13

Thx for your all response…

we have cleaned up the servers temp dir ( fs_savepath )
and rebooted the hardware …

It could not be a matter of the hardware cause we have tried out 3 different Server, thank you to I3D for this…

And we have installed a cronjob to restart the etqwded each morning at 7:00

Something strange is:
Our unranked server has uptimes of about 3 weeks without a crash … thats very strange cause its the same CENTOS installation and a very similar hardware …

Maybe its the result of the high load of our server … I am happy that many players are playing on it. Thank you to you all (the players on our server and the people here for trying to help me)

Yours BlueRed

(AnthonyDa) #14

Server has a memory leak it’s well known since 1.2 or even before, sadly I don’t have old etqw’s forum (rip) to prove it :frowning:

try play with SELinux/AppArmor stuff to prevent potential impact on apps[including [ETQW]server one]to OS itself.
its can sound ridiculous[cause other tools to control resource management itself]but simplest path.

(asmo) #16

so 4netplayers did not fixed the problem - they are BAD
I3D did not fixed the problem but used charming words - they are GOOD

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

perhaps 4netplayers already tried to fix the same problem for other customer and failed so they said they wont help you in that case

perhaps i3d net faced it already but dont want to loose customers so they’re ‘trying’ ‘everything’ and you love them - in both cases problem is NOT solved.

my guess is that you pissed someone and now your server is in troubles  but seriously,
debug it, use gdb or other tool… i love jesus server, keep it up.

(BlueRed) #17

Thx for your opinion…

but its a different if i try to help a customer (like I3d) or
if they just say we don´t care about the problem (like 4netplayer)

but that was my personal experience, maybe 4netplayer are good and i am the only one with
bad experiences with them…

statistics, numbers is mater.
and personal experience for every single one consumer too.
because this form both statistic and public opinion.

(BlueRed) #19

Back to topic…

Our Server is up and running for now…

But after a few days of full load the server becomes delays in server side actions… only a restart of the server application will get it better … does someone have the issues with the etqw.ded ?
