Just finished the placements and went 5-5. Out of those 10 games, only 3 ended up 5vs5 and all the five losses were due to being 4 vs 5. 3 times out of 10 a team started with 4 players and it ended up in a vote surrender.
I don’t find this enjoyable one bit.
Ranked is unplayable
So rather than state Ranked is unplayable, why not just say, people are jerks?
This type of problem affects all games, not just dirty bomb.
I’ve also played several matches and only had one game were someone raged and left.
My advise is not to go solo. Always go in pairs or a full squad of 5. It reduces, eliminates the random players.
You are just unlucky IMO.
I’ve had “only” 2 games which started 5v4 out of ~25.
People leaving after the first half because they think the team will lose is BS though, they should get penalized way harder (longer ban, losing ranked points)
The problem is not ranked. The problem is idiots and noobs that play ranked.
I think a fair change for ranked would be:
-
Adding a one merc limit (and therefore requiring you to own at least 15 mercs before you can play). This one has to be thought before though to make sure it is safe to release this without increasing the queue times too much
-
If you lost a 4v5 game, you will lose less elo. If you won a 4v5 game, you will get more elo. The enemy team’s elo will be unaffected by that to avoid abuse.
-
Abandoning a competitive match will make you earn 50% less credits and 50% less xp for the next 6 hours of gameplay (the timer only goes down while ingame, similar to boosters). It will also make you lose double the elo as you would’ve lost if you stayed and lost. Abandoning multiple games will increase the timer by another 6 hours.
Obviously, there will be something like “you can abandon once every time you play 10 full ranked matches” because sometimes your internet crashes or something and you can’t rejoin and it’s not your fault.
Here’s some examples:
-If you played 10 games and abandoned your 11th game, it will just count as a regular loss but you will get no credits, no xp and no competitive points for that game.
-Abandoning a game without having 10 clean matches will punish you with a 6 hour xp/credits penalty, will count like you’ve lost 2 competitive matches (with the same teammates and enemies and exact same score) and you will receive no comp points/xp/credits for that specific match
And today I played 4 ranked games. Guess how many ended 5v5?
If you guessed a fat 0, you are right. There was one, where someone couldn’t even join in the enemy team, so it was 5v4 from the beginning.
In the other games people started leaving after they thought they can’t win. I agree that those games were pretty one-sided, but the leavers made it plain impossible to win.
Food for thought:
link, because the include image is broken
funny how people say ranked isn’t the issue even though it is, people can just leave a match, click abandon match and instantly start a new queue, no punisments at all, not to forget about the terrible team balance in ranked.
Well there actually is a penalty if you don’t rejoin the game in time of being banned from entering a ranked queue for a time (it is only a few hours first offense or so). However, I still feel that the mode isn’t so much the issue as much as a prime example of the underlying problems with the game itself. Granted the team matching could be improved upon, but its the smaller part of the larger issue which lies in the gun and merc balancing.
Also there is only so much that can be done about leavers especially when the ranked playerbase size isn’t large enough to support a far harsher penalty at the present time.

Taking away 50-100 ranked points for quitting is far harsher imo, but wouldn’t really effect the size of the playerbase.
Which region / rank are people experiencing quitters? I’ve played my share of Duo queue’s and I’ve not had a single quitter at high silver / gold tier in EU
@HonourBound I’ve seen a small few in the NA region but not a lot so I’d wager its prolly North America (could definately believe there are more than what I’ve run into).
Ranked In ASIA is now playable again since the server has came back to whopping 20+ping
and people start puring in on ranked again
also, solo ranked on sliver now grouped with bronze and unranked
BEST DAY EVER
It happens constantly in EU, silver I-II-III.
Are you saying that I just have to rank up to silver 4-5 to get rid of these players?
Then I’m going to practice S41 Thunder for the rest of the week before getting into a ranked match again.
i have played 7 matches myself, 1 match was 5vs5, 5 matches were 4vs5, 1 match was 3vs5.
And at one of the matches at the end with the final stats screen the game bugged out stated i was banned and didnt give me any points for the ranked skins. I wont even bother filling in a bug form, the matches were so not fun, that even if i just have to play 3 more matches to get a rank, i cant bring myself to play one more match.
You will never fix the problem of people leaving. No matter what you play, people will abandon the game. Only one of three scenarios can exist, there is no gray area unfortunately:
- Light punishment for abandoning means people will abandon whenever they want anyway, and won’t care about the punishments
- Medium punishments mean some players will just stop playing Ranked, and the ones that aren’t deterred will continue to abandon anyway
- Harsh punishments mean people that abandon will just stop playing Ranked, and queue times will skyrocket once again
People dunk out of pubs all the time, they’ll dunk out of Ranked too. The only thing you can do to both lower the rate of people leaving AND increase player count is by changing the format of Ranked to be an agreeable middle ground that everyone enjoys… and even then, lots of people will leave matches…just not as much as before.
If you can’t deal with 4v5/3v5 matches, don’t play Ranked. When you go into Ranked as anything less than a full team of 5, you should not have the expectation that all players will stay in the match, on your team.
The only way to play Ranked without worrying about people leaving is by your team of 5 setting up a game with another team of 5.

@bgyoshi Basically why I said the harsher punishment would backfire but admittedly more elaborated. If we had a significantly larger playerbase in ranked the harsher punishments wouldn’t hurt us as badly. Right now even with the quitters we can at least even get into a match (really don’t think I need to remind people of how quickly Season 1 died after the amount of bugs and issues that occurred). People will just stop playing it if they can’t even get into a match in a reasonable time frame and right now it still sometimes drags on for 5-10mins searching at times while only taking 49seconds on rare occassions.
Also as they said above quitters are always a thing in any multiplayer game. If I recall though in pre-season it used to start searching for a replacement player if the person didn’t rejoin after the wait time (which coincided with the grace window before the punishment that we still have right now) it would pull someone waiting in a solo queue still and put them in. I kinda wish that was still a thing or would be implemented at the least. It might not be as preferable but it at least fixes the 4v5 issue by pulling in a replacement player which is about all we can hope for.
@bgyoshi @-OCB-Wildcard
And what about those players who quit playing ranked because of the players who quit during matches?
Jokes aside, I can’t see myself playing ranked again until SD adresses this issue somehow.

3. Harsh punishments mean people that abandon will just stop playing Ranked, and queue times will skyrocket once again [/quote]
If the queue times skyrocket, that means the majority of the playerbase were those players who don’t even care about the matches, just the 10 ranked points they get at the end. I would rather wait even 2x more before each game, but have normal 5v5 matches, where the players are determined to win (like filling missing roles on the team, not playing 3 proxies and a vassili).
The average quit rate is 1/5 in my experience (some matches which end 5v5, some others 2v5, but it is more rare). That means it is roughly 20% of the playerbase who does this.
I know that forcing tham to stay wouldn’t solve the problem, because they can just go AFK or start teamkilling. Perhaps make them lose ranks really quickly, so they queue up against each other? They can even “farm draws” with like minded people or something, while letting other players play.
Really quickly means 100% or even more per rage quit, since I’ve had a game where I lost almost 40% in a 2v5.
quitters, as i said long time ago
is a threat to the community.
people be blaming map, levels, unbalanced matchmakings
but then when the match goes on, one of the enemies/teammate quits just because
“i got a bad match up” is BS. I know there are “Cowards” in many games, not just this one.
they quit when they kept getting killed by the same person.
most of the time these are people looking for instant gratification, they keep quitting, never try to improve and just want easy win. I see new level 30s and 20s still has this mentality.
they dont get it, people who appear to be very skilled is spending their time in the game, practicing so they would not let their team down. The instant gratification culture is very strong in this decade.
i suggest SD make the ranked point reduction like -20 if they quit intentionally
i want to make people have the mentality to ready themselves if they wanna play ranked instead of “its okay to quit ranked, i dont lose anything am i rite?”

How will they know if there was a technical error? I mean, come on… Incomplete Alpha state?
