Rail-gun

(Slader) #1

Guys, i have a question. I’m a big fan of id-games and i just love the quake series. I’m a slave of the rail gun. Thats why i have a little concern. Is there gonna be a rail gun in quake wars ? Couse it is a big part of the quake universe. I thought it might be a good gun for a strogg-infiltrator or something. But i cant seem to find it in any reports of media online. So pleasse release me of this nightmare and tell me there is gonna be a railgun in that game :???:

(Zyklon) #2

There is.

The Strogg infiltrator can choose to either handle a lacerator (a plasma gun) modified for increased accuracy or a railgun.

(jimb0) #3

Yeah, it’s used by the strogg’s sniper (infiltrator) class.

aahh…thank god…i love yu guys, yu made my dreams come true :drink:

I think one of interviews confirmed this. Even rail howitzer (WTF?) is confirmed.
But keep in mind it’s unlikely Railgun will work just like in other Quake games; I mean, most probably won’t be a deathmatch weapon. I’d expect it to work more like a sniper rifle in Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory. They won’t allow one weapon to dominate all others.

(Slader) #6

its a railgun…how diffrent can yu have it  all yu need is a good shot, in ET i’ve seen allot of guys walking around with a sniper as a close combat weapon. A railgun woz designed as the sniper of quake too…kinda.

now its just hoping that the vehicles wont dominate the game :bump:

Snipers do not work efficient in W:ET as a close range weapon, so I guess they won’t make the railgun similar to Quake 3 to keep the concept of snipers. (You had no weapon-specific zoom there, just an all-purpose zoom)

(Slader) #8

not completely true about that all-purpose zoom. It woz released as a mod, just had to insert it into youre script too. Not that anybody used it allot couse yu diddnt need it. But still

I guess the railgun in ETQW will probably have some recoil, or a bigger reload time, to avoid it being used in close combat. Or else the gameplay will turn into DM instagib that happens to have a few objectives per map.

(Slader) #10

a tdm instagib with some objectives…well it is orrigional :P, but i guess youre right…altough i don’t think the hardcore railers, will be stopped by a recoil of longer reload time…most drastic measure would be to cut the railgun’s power. But that would also affect it as a snipergun

(Fitzsimmons) #11

Unfortunately for snipers and engineers, the rifle is only more accurate than a SMG with the scope up, which makes this weapon only good at long distance or very short distance. It is unrealistic, but it does make a lot sense on a gameplay front because the rifles do have a much higher damage rate. I’m a firm beliver in gameplay over realism so this doesn’t really bother me much.

This isn’t so much the gun, but the rest of the game. The Quake series of games don’t represent aiming accuracy in various stances or movement speeds, while ETQW does (the extent of which is subject to tweaking - right now it’s a little more like RTCW than W:ET)

yay! skill required to aim in rtcw > skill required to aim in w:et! NICE!

ET requires more skill : P
cause of lower RoF, you can’t accidentaly own ppl with fast shots, backfucking etc

(Lanz) #15

I don’t care which game takes more skill but I know RTCWs RoF was more fun imo, so I hope it will stay.

(ExciteBike) #16

 RTCW aim

As long as there’s no sv_screenshake or it’s equivalent.
