Rahdo's words - what happened here?

(ScumBag) #581

This. 1000% this. I think that the learning curve was handled well, with the challenge modes, but persistent upgrades? Gar-bage. Upgrades were handled much better in QW where I needed to stick through the entire campaign if I wanted to get the lvl 4 shwag. This gave me something to stick around for, instead of just dropping-in/out. The final maps were always more frantic and exciting because of this…:stroggbanana:

Persistent upgrades and VOIP being off by default are probably my 2 biggest complaints.
none of that makes any sense to wat I was saying. its more like this
car salesman : here is a car with a 2 year warranty , if something goes wrong we will fix it for free.
XVX: ok that suxs wheres the 20 inch rims and bose sound system with the 15 inch speakers?
car salesman : um that is not a part of the car those are accesories that are a little extra.
XVX: This is an outrage!!! I want mah 20 inch rims free now!!! i dont care if it cost your comany extra man power and if they have to work for free gimmie gimmie gimmie!!!
car salesman: please leave sir…
Except that you can normally get extras thrown in for free if you ask for them or at least get the price knocked down. Anyone who pays the display price are idiots.
This is perhaps the most hilarious thing I’ve ever read on any forum.

I shall now run off to play a FPS without ever pointing or clicking–ostensibly–to avoid boredom.

Priceless.
oh wow u actually made a funny (while missunderstanding or missinterpreting what i said) maybe u should use that same sense of humor in your broadcast because as of now listening to static over the radio is more entertaining. whoa getting sleepy even trying to think about hearing ur commentary

(sereNADE) #584

what is to misunderstand? what you said got lots of laughs! that is what you wanted right?

(tangoliber) #585

Nobody here is going to agree with you. I think everyone likes the broadcasts.

(Kurushi) #586

Fail response. What you said was pretty LOL + brink TV owns

(tokamak) #587

Agreed.

Asking for a singleplayer game is too much though. Singleplayer games take up much more resources than Multiplayer games.

ETQW suffered from heavy competition above all, it really wasn’t that complex. Even if you didn’t understand the mechanics you could still play a full game by following your team into the action and you would figure it out soon enough.

I still like the idea of a more social driven system, where by your team and server rate players from their perspective, either awarding XP directly or some sort of multiplier.

Yeah that would simplify things a lot.

(.Chris.) #588

Yeah, they should have persisted with the ET:QW formula, ironed out the engine problems and added some extra polish and focused more on infantry combat.

Was playing on the custom nirvana server last night (ETQW), had some truly epic games, it reminded me why I liked the game. Maridia last stage was hectic, lots of hero moments and comedic happenings, the defense was solid, everyone was constantly on the move (apart from ashog) checking the entrances, reacting to varying attack patterns but then with moments left on the clock the attack worked together and went for all or nothing and ended up winning the map.

What was even more remarkable was that they were some first timers, it didn’t take them long to get the gist of things and were able to contribute to the match, all without any hand holding or obtrusive HUD elements and such.

(TONSCHUH) #589

… don’t forget that we get a lots of our excitements from feeding our mouse and all the lovely pads we give to her …

… now I know why they call it dumb-stick’s … :stroggbanana:

(Crytiqal) #590

lol @raztaz

you are priceless
Maybe apples can finnaly have a new quote under his sig?

point and click using a mouse is a boring mechanic
How does it work with your console?
You have to do a little dance to shoot someone?
Or is using a thumbstick a sign of more skill?

(zenstar) #591

And Kinetic support was added…

(tokamak) #592

Raztaz has a point in that aiming on the consoles is a mini-game on it’s own. I’m not being facetious, the added effort you must put into it gives the game depth. It’s just that you can’t ever use that balance for a mouse and keyboard as then it becomes boring.

(Smoochy) #593

i agree the F key is the main issue now. the vast majority of gamers dont even belong to clans so competition modes etc were something that can be added later. core gameplay and mechanics should always be priority #1 as they affect everyone.

(Smoochy) #594

what? so you mean you want a pat on the back for using a controller with built in aim assist? game pads dont add depth - they artificially add a useless mechanism for aiming, then have to add bigger hitboxes and give aim assist to cope with this.

using a pointer is what the sane people use to point. why not point with a cat or a dog if you want even more useless aiming method? console pads are NOT designed for FPS. they are designed for platform games and sports games.

why use a car? its a boring mechanism to get from A to B. im off to rope a wild bore and use virgin’s hair plaited to make some reigns, it will be a more interesting ride home! <facepalm>

(zenstar) #595

You can’t turn your car into a delicious pie when you get home though
You can’t eat controllers though so I guess that’s a moot point.

(tokamak) #596
The aim assist on Brink is really low, it’s a really challenging game on the consoles, and because so much effort is put into making your kills, you will have to be careful on where you spent your mental resources per second, you can’t do everything at the same time.

And that’s what gives Brink depth on the consoles. If you then apply the same balance to the PC you run into a really stale and boring game where skill doesn’t really matter.

(SockDog) #597

I find this whole, ‘depth’, argument to be a big red herring and largely rolled out to excuse design or hardware issues. It really needs to get a room with ‘realistic’ and GTFO. Depth exists on many levels and shouldn’t be an excuse for decisions that ultimately impact a much more relevant word for games, ‘fun’.

(tokamak) #598

Depth combined with fun means replayabillity. Games can be fun for an hour or two before you’ve seen everything and want something different.

eh??? your logic is totally flawed. how do you know you are good on a console when its not 100% you doing it!!! how can you have any gratification when the system is helping you to aim?!

pc is more skilled. if i outshoot someone its because i have outdone them. not because my aim assist worked better than yours.

with a pc mouse i can be much more manouverable than with a console pad (im not a console hater - i have a ps1,2,3 and they are good for sports and fighting and driving games and games like drake’s fortune - just poor at FPS)

(tokamak) #600

I’m not making a judgement on the platforms. I’m giving my thoughts on where I think the PC version went wrong. The console version is fun, and the difficulty of aiming is a fundamental part of it, take that away, replace it with mouse and keyboard and you will need a different balance.
