Good point Vamp … those are the guys that brag about their XPs at the end of the game even though they just lost the map. I could have sworn the objective was to stop the radar parts from being stolen, not obtaining the highest XPs. If I see an MG42 setting up under that bridge, I switch class and go help them … seeing how valuable certain positions are and creating the best teamwork to maintain those positions will win you the map every time.
Radar map very hard for Axis
I don’t know if i’m unlucky but i tried many things and i did many games on this radar map and i always lost :
- in less than 10 minutes
- i was alone to defend the command post and the radar.
Nobody knows this map or they are in the Allied Team :banghead:
On Radar, construct the CP and then set your spawn point at the CP. If you go on solo runs via the back way, there is a good chance you’ll get shot up pretty good. So. on the way back with the radar parts, stop by the CP, /kill, respawn at full health and ammo, pickup the dropped parts, and continue on
the more i play radar the more i appreciate the map and expect it to get excellent when players are more experienced. generally the back way is much easier for allies because few axis seem to know of it yet: keep an eng there to plant mines, destroy CP, man+repair the mg42 and have another player for backup (med for health or fieldops for support fire?) and they should be able to have a decent hold. covop could also go through and detpack the CP then cause some havok at the main door
if doc carrier gets through the back way axis will start pushing out throught the main door to guard truck… the map actually reminds me a lot of rtcw village for gameplay style - i liek
i think its hard to evaluate the map balance when most people are very new, probably not even understanding the layout nevermind thinking up tactics that maybe a rtcw veteran might see as nearly obvious.
regarding ammo vs support fire, most people probably get at least as much from dishing ammo as a typical astrike/artillery - but the support fire breaks holds. you need to ask for it as giving packs to players full on ammo could be a waste of powerbar if they dont want it or have enough so they’ll probably die before they run out of ammo… on top of that i for oen find the compass a bit harder to see when people close are asking for ammo (habit of looking at the bottom-center of the screen maybe) and also have a habit of assuming a soldier asking for ammo at the start is being a bit of a noob (in rtcw only snipers can actually get more ammo at the start, and their 20 rounds is usually ample).
Hard for Axis? Hell, if anything this map tends to favor the Axis if you place mines correctly and have people covering all entrances. Mine the two radar dishes and side entrance, and get some airstrikes ready to spam near the truck area.
If you do it right, you can keep them back near their spawn with mines and panzer spam. They’ll then try to come around the sides, which mean they’ll have to come back to the truck via a longer route.
Mines and spam, that’s the way for the Axis to win that map. It’s not easy… but it certainly is fair assuming fairly even teams. I’m not that good, but by having 10 mines down at all times I’d be able to kill one or two of the attacking force with each 3-4 man squad just with the mines. Then I could gun down the other one or two. Assuming I died, that’d be one half-dead enemy versus another three axis. Not gonna happen…
As long as you watch the dishes and make sure they don’t overrun the Axis side of the truck door, it’s a map Axis should be able to do very well on.
Out of all of the maps, I’ve found most maps to favor Axis. Oasis seems to be the only one that clearly favors the Allies, and the Railgun map seems to be the most balanced overall.
From what I’ve seen so far, radar is not especially hard for the axis, nor is oasis. In both, your team has to know when to fall back and defend the objective, instead of trying to push the allies back to spawn. Much like mp_base in RTCW, it can be better to just concentrate on one of the objectives.
As others have suggested, mines around the radars or stairs to the guns can be a big help.
I think, perhaps because of the XP system, and because people are new, they aren’t motivated to defend, and instead go out looking for fights.
