RaDAr and how it wokrs!

(MrX) #1

So i show a video of brink the other day and noticed something that is very frustrating and ruins the advantage of surpise the enemy from behind . That is beacause the radar always show the enemies in red dots even if they are not shooting and has a certain radius. That is i must say noobish and ruins the tactical gameplay. My question is and plz i would like somebody from the stuff of splash damage to answer is there an antiradar jammer or something like that or u will always see your enemies appearing as red dots in your radar?

(tokamak) #2

You can’t get radar without interrogating people. If you think it’s noobish, then don’t let the opponent interrogate your team.

(MrX) #3

So the red dots appear in your radar only if enemy is interrogated? Cause i show 2-3 videos that different class see red dots all the time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYW4KS1KKfY
Check this vid and the person who plays says the same thing.Imo if radar shwos red dots all the time the game is garbage

(madoule) #4

first of all this is outdated footage. there’s fresher stuff.
the red dots are marked enemies, as where the whites are your team.
i don’t see any problems in the fact that those enemies shooting in your vicinity automatically appear on your radar…

…and honestly what sort of argument is this???

if radar shwos red dots all the time the game is garbage

well sir, then don’t buy it

Mmmmm. Looks to me like there is a secondary mechanism for adding enemies to radar. During some periods all enemies seem to be displayed, during others only enemies engaged appear. Suddenly a new enemy will run onscreen and then be marked on the map as well.

Could be like CoD4 where unsilenced weapons get marked on the map or an spotting mechanism like BC2 that works in the background.

(Auzner) #6

You’re complaining that the covert in the videos was being competent and useful? Most people won’t even get the hang of a radar for a long time anyways. Even if the game is telling them where the enemy is they still won’t react intelligently. I can say this after playing a lot of ET.

(Slade05) #7

He brings in his CoD radar experiences as he hasn`t seen anything else. Typical console player mentality for you, lol.

(tokamak) #8

I like the CoD radar though, it’s just accurate enough to give an idea where the opponent COULD be, but never accurate enough to trust it fully.

Brink does have different priorities than killing the opponent players though, so there would be no problems with a more accurate radar. ETQW worked out fine with it.

From what i’ve researched, The operative has an interigation mission where they will interigate a downed opponent (remember CoD fans that downing isn’t just when you have a perk) which will give you a radar, theres other such things as the audio circle that will give you a generalized idea of where sound is coming from and the “Premonition” perk that will give you a the kill wheel when your in the sights of an enemy

(MrX) #10

First of all i dont like cod radar and to be honest i dont like radar mechanism nowdays in games .I would prefer a radar only to show your team8s and thats all ,so when a team8 dies to know where did he die and be more causious going in that area. As for brink’s radar shown in this video and in a video officail from pax it always shows the enemies like red dots even if they are not shooting and thats just lame. They only good thing is that it covers only a specific radius. The operative interrogates enemies and as i read it shows the enemies like wallhack only for him and on screen not in radar so its a different thing. That is why iam asking if there is an antiiradar mechanism cause putting a silencer is just dumb cause radar shows u even if u shoot or no.
Being spotted always in the radar its just dumb and stupid and i will tell you an example.Imagine i take a route ,a “parkourish” route and i end up behind the enemies. The enemies radar shows me as a red dot among some white dots .Now even the most dumb person can see a red dot among 3-4 white ones and know im coming from behind …so my plan of suprise and stealth has gone to garbage .

Im w8ing an official response here for radar and some antiradar mechanism

As I understand it:

 1. Guys who are in your crosshairs will show up on everyone’s radar. This is like BC2 spotting but happens automatically. I believe the thought process here is automatic communication between team mates. Instead of using VoIP to say where the guy is, it happens automatically. Again, they are trying to get pubbers to be able to play at a highly organized level.
 2. I have heard a successful interegation mission will make all enemies appear on everyones radar for a limited amount of time. Early speculation from Devs was a time frame somewhere around 10 seconds, so this wasn’t supposed to be any kind of permamnat, or even semi-pemanat radar, it was going to be very brief. I have also read though where the interegation lets the operative see enemies through walls. So maybe it’s been changed to that, or there is more than one kind of ability/mission.

Those are the only two radar (where enemies show up on everyone’s mini-map) related deals I remember having read about. Of course there could be more, and also there are abilities which help only you (premonition tells you when you are in someone elses crosshairs, and so on).

Ah, so you expected to backrape without a counter.
Well, sorry.

(MrX) #13

No i expected the enemie’s hears to counter me . Thats called awarenesss a few ppl tend to have

I agree with the OP’s concern, if you sneak behind the enemy, they shouldn’t automatically always know you are there. That said, I don’t think it’s a concern because there isn’t an always on everyone’s radar mechanism. If it’s on it’s only for a brief time. If you are spotted in a firefight you can get out of the enemies line of site and drop off the radar (or when you kill the guy you were fighting).

I would like to know how long the spotting is in effect. I assume if you are in a one on one firefight with a guy and kill him, you will probably stay on everyones radar for a short period (maybe 3-5 seconds or so), but only at the last position he saw you at.

(Slade05) #16

If Brink is anything like ET titles, so much will be happening simultaneously that OP will have his chance at backraping.

(MrX) #17

I read somewhere that op can camouflage in the person he killed is that true?

(Cankor) #18

yes, like previous SD games operative can disguise as enemy.

X: go here for lots of detailed info on all things Brink:

(Nail) #19

The operative can disguise himself as an opposing team member, if that’s what you mean

(MrX) #20

nice thnx for the info!
