R.I.P. for ETQW stats.
I have tried to get some folks involved (even $$ a game for somebody)

People seem to want ‘Offcial’ Maps, Patches, expansions, SP mode etc. These were people in the community who would play Vanilla, Mods and comp…

I saw some Wolf players transfer over to ET:QW, but not enough, and now the players are moving on again. There are still some old timers around…

I still ‘whore’ up the Medic class because… I like being a Medic… if I get a leaderboard at the end of a map it’s because I have been working for my XP.
You think you have it tough? 360 has like 10 people online at any time. =X But the bots are our good, good friends… Brandon included.

You guys should consider a TV commercial like with CoDMW2, get this awesome game hyped up already

I agree. Although I don’t think I’ll smooth the transition from ETQW to Brink too well, this game certainly shows potential and NEEDS the hype. SD makes great games, let’s get them distributed to the masses.

Activision’s steps to having a sense of humor:

 1. If a mistake is made, immediately abandon game (creating a false sense of hope get’s good laughs). If game does okay, pump out a patch or two and run for the hills.

 2. If a player base appears to make a come back, fix some stuff that won’t require any effort. Idea* Stat sites give mindless noobs e-boners.

 3. Wait a week and Punch Line- PSYCH! No soup for you. *Activision Executives cue jump high five after pulling the plug.

 4. Continue to use in game advertising to fund MW 3.5 instead of producing further patches or support.

 5. You still buy their games and they laugh in your face for it.

speaking of in-game advertising, is there a way to disable the billboards or have them just show a texture, short of using custom maps?

You can block the adverts, you’ll just have the regular GDF recruitement posters then.
All you had to do was to block traffic to a few different adresses, don’t ask me which ones, that was on the old forums :frowning:

I wonder if that would help to reduce some of the online lag? Not that it will help that much, but still I am sure it adds to the load.

(Nail) #28

nah, that’s all loaded at startup

(dervykins) #29

I did some web archive searching and found the following that was on the old community forum:

blocking access to the ad server will prevent in-game ads. For example, I put these entries in my “hosts” file:

127.0.0.1 locate.madserver.net
127.0.0.1 m.madserver.net
127.0.0.1 i.madserver.net
127.0.0.1 z.madserver.net

Previously downloaded ads may need to be cleared from the game’s ad cache folder.

This does not affect punkbuster and has worked since ETQW went retail.

First off, it’s kinda creepy that my etqw is connecting to any other server than the one I chose to connect to. I really dislike extraneous internet connections that are running in the background and even moreso when they’re hidden from me so some faceless corporation can make a couple pennies off of wasting my bandwidth.

If I were to block these ads, would it in any way affect Splash Damage? Do you guys get anything at all from Activision on these ads, or are the payments just going to AV to overpay them for the complete and total lack of support that they’ve ponied up for this game?

but there are millions of QUAKE fans, what happened with them, didn’t they heard about ETQW ? or they all died till now ?
i asked some of my friends who played quake in past if they heard about ETQW, so all of them heard but have no interest to buy it. "i play game xxx, maybe i’ll try etqw someday`, that’s the response i get, more or less.
just thinking that it may be not about that the peoples didn’t heard about etqw.
