QWTA Feedback?

(Azuvector) #1

Just wondering a few things from those who play QWTA.
If you don’t play QWTA, I’d be interested in hearing why not, as well.

For those unfamiliar with the mod:

QWTA v0.3.5 Release Thread
QWTA Features Trailer

  • Do you play QWTA primarily online with other players, or offline with bots?[/li][li] Do you play QWTA with primarily BaseETQW/action-oriented settings, or QWTA’s default/realism settings?[/li][li] If you play QWTA with mostly BaseETQW settings, do you make use of the new gameplay features, or do you just like it as a behind-the-scenes patch for BaseETQW 1.5, without the extra stuff? eg: Just use it for autodownload, BaseETQW bugfixes, etc.[/li][li] How do you find the Jupiter’s ingame/gameplay balance, compared with other vehicles?[/li][li] How do you find the Abaddon’s ingame/gameplay balance, compared with other vehicles?[/li][li] Do you like/hate the QWTA v0.3.5 changes to the Abaddon’s Plasma Beam and Siege Mode?[/li][li] Do you have any favourite tactics with the Jupiter or Abaddon? Particular things you like doing with them? Particular things you worry about that often kill you while using them?[/li][li] Do you have any particular things you hate about the Jupiter or Abaddon? Either while you’re the one driving, or while someone’s hunting you down with them?[/li][li] Do you like the Nuclear Hammer?[/li][li] Do you like the Quake 4-style Dark Matter Cannon, with the gravity effects?[/li][li] Do you feel the Q4 DMC is inferior to the Nuclear Hammer? If so, how would you go about improving the Q4 DMC to remain competitive with the nuke?[/li][li] Do you like the Q4 Hyperblaster, with its homing, non-instant-hit explosive projectiles?[/li][li] Any favourite/hated tactics with the Q4 Hyperblaster?[/li][li] Are you interested in a new gametype for QWTA, more similar to a Counter Strike or Search and Destroy in Call of Duty? Something friendlier to smaller groups of players.[/li][li] How do you find the penetrative Railgun compares against the more subtle/harder to see Sniper Rifle trails?[/li][li] What’s your opinion of the Jack of All Trades award?[/li][li] Do you find QWTA’s vehicle drops useful? What’s your opinion of Force Escalation? What’s your opinion of Logistics Points?[/li][li] Do you make use of the team bind contexts?[/li][li] Does the Abaddon’s Plasma Beam and/or Flamethrower cause you FPS problems or lag issues?

Anything else you might want to add.

I only downloaded the mod last night and had a quick run around with bots on area, was fun but hopefully try it with real players soon!

Hi azuvector, since you’re helping me so much with QWTA, lemme contribute to this thread. my opinions are heavily dependent on playing qwta with the TAW guys every week.

i generally play online

qwta with baseetqw settings, with exception of reverse airstrikes on, retrievable shields on, lockon hyper off, FE off, red/black screen off…

jupiter and abbadon are not enabled for now.

haven’t had a chance to test nuclear hammer for qwta 0.3.5

quake4 gravity DMC is awesome man!!!

new gametypes are always welcome, keeps the game fresh.

for the other qwta 0.3.5 related features, cant comment until i’ve tested them out online.

blood effects are awesome, and thanks for this great mod!!!

To get this out of the way: We love the mod! Hence we play it 3 days a week with about 160 people.

The current settings we are playing with (which is still 0.3.3 because we are in the middle of our internal tournament) are these:

set g_useBaseETQW12Shotguns 1
set g_disableVehicleSpawns 0
set g_artilleryWarning 1
set g_useQuake4DarkMatter 1
set g_useDeathFading 1
set g_useReverseAirstrikes 1
set g_useNuclearHammer 1
set g_useQuake4Hyperblaster 0
set g_showPlayerArrows 2
set g_useGibKills 1
set bot_useVehicleDrops 0
set g_useClassLimits 0
set pm_realisticMovement 0
set bot_useStrafeJump 1
set g_allowMineIcons 0
set g_allowMineTriggerWarning 1
set g_allowAPTWarning 1
set g_ignorePersistentRanks 0
set g_advancedVehicleDrops 129
set g_useSpecificRadar 0
set g_vehicleDropsUseFE 0
set g_useBaseETQWVehicleCredits 1
set g_useBaseETQWProficiencies 1
set g_useBaseETQWVehicleCharge 1
set g_vehicleSpawnsUseFE 0
set g_useQuake4Railgun 1
set g_useShieldAbsorber 1
set g_disableVehicleRespawns 0
set g_allowCrosshairs 1
set g_allowHitBeep 1
set g_useRealisticWeapons 0
set g_useVehicleAmmo 0

We’ve tried out all the different settings in between seasons of the internal tournaments. Here are some conclusions from that:

  • Realistic weapons always seems to work in the favor for the defending team. Especially with the GMPG’s.
  • Realistic movement is more a pain then a convenience, it takes longer before you get to the action, which is especially annoying when you are in the last minutes of the map.
  • No vehicles respawns. Although this was the first step towards FE, it involved much more intelligent usage of the vehicles and trying to keep them alive as long as possible.
  • The FE system takes up too long when spawning in vehicles, even with the most time and credit consuming settings on.
  • Jupiter/Abaddon haven’t been used much because of the high requirements for it and the long spawning times.
  • No mine icons, apt warnings and arty warnings certainly gets the awareness up in a game, which is preferable.
  • QWTA shotgun (1.2 shotgun) is awesome, yet on the long range a bit overpowered.
  • Railgun: no objections there. (Just wondering if you get a double kill with that does that count as 100% accuracy or 200%?)
  • Hyper lock on is a no-no tbh, explosive rounds make it even more crazier.
  • Using up ammo is nice to counter vehicle whoring, but if you are on a vehicle heavy map it makes it more a pain.
  • Bug fixes are great.
  • QWTA demo’s sometimes are unviewable
  • Hammer and DMC improvements are great. I’d have to say that the Hammer on nuclear is awesome but the time the fallout lasts should be a bit decreased.
  • QWTA radar settings are nice.
  • Jack of All Trades is much better then the Newbie award.

I’m personally looking forward to the new gametype, attacking objectives.

Also some additions we think that should be included in a future release of QWTA as well:

  • autorecord demo function
  • ability to pause matches, readyteam, etc, and other pro settings useful in matches (with separate cvars controlling # of pauses, etc)
  • ability to create configs that limit number of weapons, deployables in play (like pro)
  • ability to get rid of all radar completely
  • ingame system like Spongestats (in the limbo or something or something that can be saved and reviewed afterwards like a demo)
  • Admin tool that allows to edit the guidstates ingame. Eg allows to make changes permanent when moving people to usergroups.
  • Possibly increase the autodownload limit to a much higher number, currently it can’t handle more then 15 downloads.

Disclaimer: These are just some sounds I heard about QWTA in TAW in general, these do no fully represent my opinion nor the sole opinion of any other TAW member, it’s the composed of various other opinions on which there is general consent.

I guess it would be nice to have at the end of the round to have your own personal scores being shown next to the person who won the award, I know you can view your own by hovering over but its effort :stuck_out_tongue:

As a member of TAW we use qwta 3.3 so I haven’t tried 3.5. I don’t thoroughly understand Logistic Points at the moment.

How about using enemy vehicles with either:

  1. Enemy vehicle continues to degrade and explode like it is not being used; or

  2. Enemy vehicles don’t degrade and explode.

Some feedback on QWTA 0.3.5:

  • You are able to ask for a pick-up (with the v-says) to the jupiter while there is only one spot available on that vehicle, which is a bit silly if you’d ask me.

  • Switching quickly from the limbo and the game causes a freeze up for me, I don’t know if it happens to other players though. I think it’s the QWTA tab that’s being a tit.

  • It would be nice if there was one value that allows usergroups to edit the QWTA settings. That way you can alter the settings without typing in the commands or making each one votable in the normal limbo menu.
Something like a value alteration qwta-tab that can be set in the usergroups.

From playing with bots a bit just now:

[ul]
[li]Arrg realistic movement?! disables[/li][li]The lack of hitbeep is a bit annoying (turned it back on)[/li][li]Fade to black when respawning is a lot nicer than limbo menu forcing in etqwpro - doesn’t steal your keypresses when you respawn.[/li][li]For some reason I didn’t notice lack of crosshair for ages, not liking this.[/li][li]Realistic weapon damage seems to make getting (multi-)kills too easy.[/li][li]I lol’d when getting picked up by a DMC shot just before getting killed by a GDF bot that killed us both, was quite unexpected.[/li][li]I don’t know if this is QWTA or just my PC failing with all the bots but switching weapons seems to take significantly longer than it should if I try to switch after shooting.[/li][li]Any chance you could fix strogg bots on salvage so they don’t idle at the last objective spawn instead of moving to the objective? They do this in base too. And when I say at the spawn, I mean right in front of it like they don’t realise it’s been captured.[/li][li]Vehicle drops disappearing when respawning are incredibly annoying, particularly since you lose all your LP or whatever it is.[/li][/ul]

Little bug:
I was charging for a new BFG shot during warm-up and the map began. I had a persistant green charge bar throughout whole the engine load. I even joined a server and the charge bar was still there:

I have a qwta v3.5 MOD running and its awsome my problem is after logging into admin clicking on the qwta tab then settings all are shaded out except for blood on/off I must be missing something to enable these in limbo screen so I can change them. Also the download for players who try to join and who need the files to play qwta doesnt work either…any help will most appreciated.
