Questions on the game from the Quakecon vid

(B0rsuk) #21

gerry, it clearly shows you didn’t play Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory. What makes you think Enemy Territory:Quake Wars will have more to do with Quake or BF2 than with W:ET ? Go play W:ET and you’ll see. It’s free. It’s the best game around. download from http://splashdamage.com

I couldn’t find a single reference to W:ET in your posts.

(Dementia) #22

Is there no way around that? Or are you just speaking from your own experiences?

(SCDS_reyalP) #23

The game drastically increases your spread if you are not on the ground.

I think he means primary (one) and secondary (two) objectives.

Infiltrating behind the enemy lines is fun, it adds some stealth and it would be bad if they took it from the game :bored: More realistically, I think there will be maps where at some point you can go straight to the final objective (like Fuel Dump) and maps where you will have to escort the Tank all the way down before you can enter the bank, like GoldRush.

About vehicles: you did an amazing job programming their physics but I just hope they don’t have auto-balance, expecially when jumping from a ramp. It would be cool seeing a quad bike landing bad after a jump, rolling on the ground and ending on its side. If 1 engineer can “regenerate” wheels, I think he could also give a push to a quad-bike to make it stand on its wheels again.

If you played Carmageddon, you know how exciting it was performing crazy stunts just for the fun of it. This is no racing game, but people will make a racing mod for it, I think this should be taken into account.

LoL, the quake games and the quake engiene (all of them, inc. doom engiene) are maybe the biggest succses in gaming history… Only other engie in same league is hl/hl2 engiene. So ppl like fast games. (Or sorry, realims farts and noobs dont like fast :<)

Sraffing was a part of ET btw and i like fast movment better than random weapons… (Thats the choise develepers face when buliding a large teambased game with large distances)

(makron) #26

Except for the minor detail that ET:QW is a team/class based shooter with objectives and completely different weapons.
Quake 4 had capture the flag which can be called an objective, the latest patch added some new mode about holding down area which could also be classed as objectives with team play required. As for the weapons, they may not be identical but some of the weapons are meant to be earlier versions of some of the weapons in the other quake games.
What Q4 has (and ALOT of other games) CTF, is not to be compared to ET: Quake Wars. In CTF the players often have specifik positions, 1 mid, 2 def, 2 atk etc. This is not the cast in ET:QW where everyone is fighting in the same place.
Also, in CTF you do the same thing over and over… In ET:QW you have multiple objectives that are very different. And in ET:QW you have teamclasses and each of the teams classes are different.

And about the strafejumping and tricks. It’s not only used in Q4 you know, Ever tried Wolf:ET wich IS Quake Wars bigbrother?. Doing tricks etc. are one of those things people like about the game.
It’s like you’re saying Q4 sucks and that’s partly cuz it has tricks and strafejumps, have you ever played Q3? - it sure doesn’t bring that game down.

You’re comparing to VERY different games m8.

To be able to do tricks makes a game more intresting imo, you have to learn and gain skill before you can do strafe jumping and trick jumps.
EA is stripping all the possibilities to do tricks just to give the noobs a change to play BF2. Die hard gamers get bored after some time playing BF2.

ID is not EA (thank god) and they have a big history if it comes to games where you can learn tricks.

In W:ET i sucked in trick jumps so i hope for a second change in ET:QW

delicious, just finish the video and I can that I’m happy with what I saw. There wasnt to many new things discussed, but at least I got to see how the game is coming along.

Highlights of the video are:
1.Kevin shiny bling bling.
2.Paul activating godmode.
3.Getting to see the game in action.

Some unanswered questions ?
— I dont know why the video was cute there, I wonder what people had running through their minds at the end of the demo. Heres what I was thinking:

  1. There was a lot of talk about physics will QW support physx cards ?
  2. Since the game is now delayed until 07 are there any plans to incorporate DX10 support ?
  3. When will see the beta or demo ?
4: How many maps do you guys plan on releasing with ?
5: What seperates you from your competition ? (besides the obvious)
6; There was alot of talk about the depth that QW will delivering to the FPS genre only problem is I didnt really see any of it. Maybe they will release more info about this in the future. Yes, it has nice graphics, cool animations, physics, and megatextures. In regards to gameplay and depth it just shows ETW gameplay mechanics on adrenline, where is the depth ?
7: Are the any plans to update the ranking system, in one video I saw it showed a guy ranking up but there was no indicator just a voice. How will a player know what benefits he recieved ?
8: No stamina meter how will you guy handle bunny hopping then ?
9: Are base zones able to repair vehicles units or is that job the full responsiblity of the engineer class ?
10: In the beginning of the video there was some talk about how teamplay was everything in this game. Unforunately, you guy sdidnt show any of the features that seperates you guys from your competitors like BF2. Will squad leaders be able to give indivdual assiginments ? How will waypoints be handled ? etc. . . . .

(RosOne) #29
  1. No

  2. Most probably no

  3. After a week everyone will have figured it out

  4. Without stamina

  5. Check W:ET

:drink:

(Nishua) #30

^^ I play W:ET so far there isnt anything new that I’ve seen that seperates the two.

(RosOne) #31

You’re playing ET and ask about assignments and waypoints?

Seperates ET:QW and BF2? W:ET and BF2? BF2 and W:ET?

(DarkangelUK) #32

I certainly hope there’s strafing in ET:QW… infact it’s one of the main reasons im buying the game. I probably tricked more in ET than playing it properly, and it’s something i really enjoy. If that’s gone then im just not sure…

(jah) #33

how people play on public servers? no straffejumping because it ruins the game? wtf? ET:QW + straffejumping = quake4 + vehicles? WTF? go play some W:ET first. or even better, RtCW.

these bf2 players seriously annoy me.

@topic:

the video didn’t show much imo. yea excellent graphics and new techs used are just awsome BUT it almost showed nothing about teamplay. i really didn’t like the new “capture this objective then you can spawn further” thing. this actually means that a team must complete ALL objectives before reaching the final one (wils demonstrated with noclip that he can “hack the mainframe” anytime so why can’t that missile thing fire before the bridge is constructed?)

oh, and if the strogg can spawn in the battlefield (they can generate a spawn point from fallen GDF soldiers right?), why can’t the gdf spawn at forward command posts “a la W:ET”? balance the game properly but please don’t tie players too much to the secondary objectives. that’s why they’re secondary. :open_mouth:

more, i really liked the models 3rd person animations but the running/sprint thing made me wonder… why isn’t will straffejumping? with all those slopes in the terrain… if the game turns out to be as slow as it showed on the video, i’ll prolly never play it in competitions (too boring to play… 2 SW rounds on 20 minutes map… on such a slow pace… maybe if some sort of “etpro” comes out…).

i like the game, but since i mostly play online games to compete and not on pub servers, from what i’ve seen so far… dunno :S it looks like an awsome pub game. not that competition friendly (at least not with the teamplay dynamics i’m used too - rtcw/et/quak’ish/arcad’ish).

gl SD it’s a great game.

Maybe if you’d pay attention i never bothered much with bf2, as for rtcw and et, i was playing rtcw from the first day of its release for a good year or more and also had some video tutorials on how to beat some of the sp levels people had trouble with. Time to climb down off your soapbox kiddo.

(jimb0) #35

“Separates from competitors”? They’re not trying to make a game that “differs” from another given game by such and such points. They’re trying to make a good game, what they believe to be the best game, not checking some other game constantly to raise bullet points listing what’s different between them. ETQW is not supposed to be “a better BF2”. It’s a different game.

(nUllSkillZ) #36

Some questions/suggestions about the “demo” map shown in the videos so far:

  1. [li]Has the mobile command post to be driven by a player?
[/li]Or is it like the escortable vehicles in W:ET (e.g. tank in Fueldump)?
[li]One of the objectives in this map is to destroy a shieldgenerator.
[/li]Not sure but as far as I remember I haven’t seen some kind of shield surrounding the main objective.
I think it would be nice to have some kind of visual represantation of the shield in the map.

(digibob) #37

The MCP is player driven, yes.

(kamikazee) #38

I hope there is some way to keep it on the road? I don’t want to see my MCP stuck into the nearest trench because a new player ditched it there.

(mortis) #39

I think the MCP follows a specific path, like vehicles do in Wolf:ET. If not it should, because you’d have some nub driving it off to go fight Goliaths. Maybe a ‘wide track’ that allows you to steer it somewhat, but not to run off and go crash it into the canyon. And we all know that some nub would do that very thing.

(ouroboro) #40

Download W:ET. If you like it, you’ll like ET:QW. If you don’t, there’s always BF2142.
