I was told at my school that I should try out wolfET sometime. I did and it is awesome and I love playing it. I’m not new to FPSs but I do have a few questions. From what I understand servers save your exp that you earn. I would like to know how because I was playing on a server yesterday and got 1k exp…I exited later and came back the next day but it wasn’t there. I joined a team anyways thinking maybe something was messed up and it just didn’t show. No luck as far as I can tell my 1k exp is gone. I would like to know if I did something wrong or do I have to type in a command to save my exp…or maybe I have to have a mod for this? I was playing on a EXP save server and I do have the patch and I was not disconnected. So how does this EXP save work exactly?
Question
Typically, XP only saves across campaigns, which are a contiguous set of 3-10 maps. Once the campaign is over, XP resets to 0. Some mods allow you to save XP across campaigns and retain earned XP if you get disconnected, but it only remembers you while you are playing or for a certain time after a disconnect.
Yah, what Ifurita said.
We tried to come up with a snappy phrase for “persistent-for-as-long-as-you’re-on-the-server-and-the-admin-allows XP”, and failed. We want everyone on a server to begin a new campain with as un-uneven a playing field as possible. Otherwise it would be like starting an RPG as a Level One Peon and immediately being confronted by a Level Gazillion Techno-Mage.
Forgive my curiosity but you were told at your school to try out ET? By a teacher? Fellow student? I’m currently picturing a white-haired professor smashing his cane on the desk and demanding, DEMANDING that his students play ET.
And they say they don’t teach you the important things at school…
You can also tell by the skill levels and reward system that the XP isn’t meant to be saved forever, but to be started over every new campaign.
There are 7 skills (five for the classes plus light weapons and battle sense) and on each you reach the top skill level - with the accompanioning rewards - after 140 points for that skill (this can be tweaked by the admins on some servers). So in theory you could max out all skills with just 980 XP.
If XP would save forever you would very soon not be able to advance anymore and every player on every server would be a General. Only very new players would be at a disadvantage. This removes the whole purpose of the XP system. So instead, every new game everybody starts at 0 and it’s not very common for players to max out in more than 2 classes in a normal campaign. ET is not a MMORPG (thank god).
ah I see now so it just saves for the campaign…that seems logical…I was just confused because I saw players with 8000+ exp didn’t know if that was because it saved forever or not. thanks for the help though.
Some mods can save XP’s as long as your on the server over several campaigns.
So I guess you have seen the 8000 XP guy on a shrub or etpub server.
