Question/Complaint to SD about the new patch

(ND80) #1

First of all, I want to say thanks for the great game and the continued support (which to be honest was unexpected).

I do have a question about the information provided to the modders Shrub and Bani. From all I can tell the new patch is not compatible with their existing mods and I have been told (maybe mistakenly) that they were not provided the information they needed to update their mods to make it compatible with the new patch.

Given the popularity of these two mods and their ever growing use in the main ET competitive leagues this patch is problematic at best for now. I know that the decision to provide information to the server admins and modders isnt necessarily controlled by SD but I see this patch becoming a problem for the next few days or longer because of this. It would have been nice if some advance warning and preparation was given instead of just a few hours. I know my 20 ET servers are relatively insignificant in the grand ET picture, but it would be nice not to have to make the decision not to update the game using the patch because it is not compatible with the mods.

A suggestion for any future patches would be that the community is given some earlier notice and better information about the compatibility of the patches with existing servers like mine. I know a lot of people rushed out to download the patch last night when they see it announced in various gaming sites only to later find that they cant find very many servers to play on and wont until the mods are updated.

Sorry to complain, it’s a great game and I do appreciate continuing efforts to improve it.

While I feel your pain, I can’t really see a way for ActividNerveMatterSplashBalance, Inc. to do things any differently (at least not in regard to releasing information to modders). The “information” modders really need is the server source code. However, the patch is being tested until the last moment before release. Unexpected bugs could crop up till then. Because of that, the code is not stable and final until the patch is released to the public. I don’t think it makes any sense to provide the modders with pre-release code, only to have them redo their work on the new mod version because of a change in the server code.

I’m sure that, now that the patch is out, the usual suspects will be able to get the server source and will come up with patched mods shortly.

Just my 0.02.

They are being provided with updated source, likely today, or later this week, the code isnt be given out until we are finally done ( changes can happen right up until minutes before release ), and afaik bani and shrub were aware that a patch would be released.

Is the same with most games. Servers will return within a few days. It’s only a game, it doesn’t really matter if you can’t play for a whole day is it…

Have a beer n’ relax. :drink:

Well, let me tell you a little (sad) story: my mainboard blew up 5 weeks ago, I immediately returned it and am waiting since than for my mainboard to return :frowning:

I even got the shakes so badly that I bough a second hand MB on ebay… naturally it didn’t worked :frowning:

Now I have to wait for my MB to see whether the MB I bought at eBay is malfunctioning or whether my old board fried my CPU before it blew up.

THATS 5 WEEKS WITHOUT ET !!!

Now, do you really think you have problems ???
