Question about vehicles and avatars.

(SubstandardJones) #1

I’m not sure if this was answered before, as I couldn’t find anything on it. It’s about how an avatar will be dealt with when driving a vehicle.

Let’s suppose that Vishnu the Preserver is driving a car, and he…Oh, wait, wrong avatar.

Let’s suppose that I’m flying around in a Hornet, blasting away at some human scum. On the ground below, a covert ops pulls out his sniper rifle and aims at the cockpit.

Does he:

A. Actually see my avatar in the cockpit?

And can he:

B. Actually shoot me either through the glass or through some other opening and kill me while not destroying the craft?

I could see that maybe not being possible for the Anansi, Hornet, and the pilot of the Buffalo, but some of the vehicles actually have the drivers/passengers visible and without protection.

Could I snipe someone out of the Buffalo Transport?

Can I shoot a guy off of a quad-bike without having to actually blow up the bike itself?

How truly awesome could it be if I were to snipe the guy driving away with the objective from four-hundred yards away?

Would the vehicle in question lose control and crash into a bus full of schoolchildren? If so, why haven’t our legislators enacted laws requiring anti-quad-bike bumpers to all schoolbuses?

Where have all the cowboys gone?

Burning questions, all.

Cold gray buildings where a hill should be
Steel and concrete closin’ in on me
City faces haunt the places
I roam… alone
Cowboy, cowboy - can’t run, can’t hide
Too late to fight now - too tired to try

Yes and just think about it few snipers and some with rocket launchers if anyone would escape the snipers. There will be some woods where the snipers can hide. Then the other team could just be running ( driving ) targets with out a change. Great fun right?

I think (and actually hope) that snipers can’t even scratch vehicles with their rifles. Snipers need to be kept in check and a flying vehicle seems to be the best counter for them. Snipers can still hide when they see a flyer approaching.

Go another way then, and kill them from behind?

Chokepoints are exactly the places you’ll spot the snipers. Mostly it’s a whole end to take another route.

I was hoping that infantry rifles wouldn’t be able to affect vehicles, then i seen a vid showing a guy taking out a strogg flyer (that had half health) pretty fast with a regular assault rifle. :disgust:

Oh well. Guess it doesn’t matter then if you would take a bike or go on foot.

Yes, but he was also as close to the vehicle as it was possible to be and it was hovering quite low. If distance damage scaling is anything like W:ET then flyers won’t have much to fear.

And I think the weapon was Hyperblaster. (read - heavy machinegun).
I forgot to clarify one thing: it should be possible to hit directly the driver of Husky or Icarus, because they aren’t protected by any layer of metal or whatever.
I wouldn’t go as far as “flyers have nothing to fear”. Probably 2-3 machineguns will be able to crash a flyer in medium-short range.

Players in exposed positions can be shot at and killed. You’re not going to hit a tank driver through all that armour, but you can quite easily shoot the guy manning the gun on top. Most of my recent Husky kills have taken the rider out and left the vehicle rolling on without him.

I’m really glad to hear about this. It brings a tear to my eye, it really does. Now I’ll have to add “Sniping the driver of a vehicle so that it keeps going and crashes into a bunch of his teammates” to my list of things I can’t wait to do.

Similar question about vehicles:

It seems from videos that when a vehicle is destroyed all of the passengers are instantly killed. Is this true? Or does a vehicle first become disabled and then can it take a few more hits before it explodes?

Also, once disabled/destroyed does the vehicle wreckage stick around for a bit to use as suitable cover? Or does it pretty much fade away instantly?

I would assume it would depend on whats hitting it really if they’ve implemented it. It’ll either just blow up no matter what hits it, or bullet fire might disable it but rockets will still kill all occupants.
