Question about teamplay

Hey, on the risk of sounding like a complete noob, but:
how do you play as a part of a fireteam?

I’ve been playing ET since it came out (not religiously all the time) and I have tried to be a part of a fireteam, but I can NEVER differentiate between my fireteam and the other players.
I know ET circles them yellow on the minimap and shows them as white conncentrics on the compass, but between all the shooting and me trying to do my objective, everyone getting killed, I always lose them.
Also is some form of actual audio gear a must have for effective teamwork? I hope not, because listening to a bunch of prepubescent teens give out commands really takes me out of the game. (No offense to such guys, many of them are excellent players and teamplayers.)
I generally stick to engie or smoke support and infiltration cov-ops.
I don’t have my keys remapped so I generally stick to v21, v43, and v45 and nothing else.

It seems to me, from all the interviews, and with the vehicles, teamplay will be even more important in QW and I don’t want to miss out on it.

There are a few special things for fireteams, like the fireteam chat. (Barely used on pubs)

There is allso a “mark fireteam players” option, mostly bound to numpad 1 or 0. Check the controls list for the right key.
You can mark only 1 given player if you need to know from a distance who needed to get covered the most, a few players or all players at the same time.
If you enable this feature, it shows the fireteam’s symbol above the selected players’ heads as a visual reference.

I ve never heard of those features being used tbh. The only advantage i see in the fireteam is that you know where your teammates are including their names. ET isnt that big that you need to split up your team into fireteams to improve effectiveness.

Well, on the defense one can solo all day long, but if you’re an engie trying to plant dynamite on Oasis it can be pretty futile to do it all by yourself or with a disorganized team. It becomes a waste of time after a while. (Or haphazard bankruns in goldrush, which turn into a 30 minute bloodbath…)

One use of enabling fireteam symbols is that you spot a disguised cov op from a serious distance if you see that they guy should have been in your fireteam.

Hmmm so fireteams do the magic trick and make pubbers work together? Which server did that miracle happen on… gotta visit is sometime

No for real. If you want to coordinate something, make good use of the command map because u can see your whole team on it, and where they are. And you don’t need the fireteam for it.

Unless I want to see who is where by the names, I don’t join any fireteam. That s all I use it for. I don’t like that it takes a lot of space and doesn’t give me anything for it.
