Question about recent interview

(JJeep) #1

Hi, just have a question about this interview about the mapping/modding for etqw

At about time 2:30 Arnout (sorry if I spelt it wrong :???: ) said something about tools and the like shipping with the game on release, there was mention of the SDK in there, and Wils says seperate release for the source media. And given the crappy quality of the audio (which is shocking for an interview). Was just asking for clarification on this point.

What exactly is shipping with the game in relation to modding?

Thanks, eagerly awaiting the chance to rip into modding etqw

RR2DO2: “Uh… the source code likely will … but … uh… I don’t know how much time… far … E K… close… possible but… uh… I don’t mean they… most of the tools… ship with the game… uh… rate based D… friend like…uh… the game… is is is same likely”

Wils: “What you really need to do separately is for like source painting so you get everything that we used to stamp on the megatexture and all the procedural texturing is available when the game ships.”

I tried my bloody best, can’t understand them :blah:

Anyway, wasn’t it said that all the tools are going to be released with the game or shortly after release? Something like that, right?

Same here… I suppose a ‘text-version’ of the interview isn’t availible, is it? :bored:

And btw great picture!

I don’t think anyone’s transcribed it yet. To summarise the question, the game should ship with all the editors and map source files. The full SDK for modding, any assets used to create megatextures and source model files will almost certainly be made available seperately after the game’s release.

…why doesn’t Arnout have any trousers on?

So someone did notice. I forgot to give him pants  My bad, sorry, wasn’t on purpose

lol @ RosOne’s pic

Haven’t had a chance to view the interview.

I thought the latest version of mplayer solved that

afaik, the mega to actuly make the mega texture you have a few hundred smaller texture that are more like the size you would get in game like ET (for example) you stamp these over your mega texture to make up the one massive texture

at the end the massive texture (megatexture) is saved as a totaly seperate file and does not need the primary textures that created it to work. so i think what there saying is we dont need to ship primary textures (source textures) with the game to make it playable but we will include them for any mapper out there who wish to use them

Sorry, had to leave for a bit… anyway, it’s uploaded

Thnx.
Yep, mplayer can play wmv.
But I couldn’t understand anything :frowning:

maybe you should add the keywords “quake wars” so that it can be found by the ones who search for quake wars

(RosOne) #16

Users add labels, you can tag is however you want Joe :drink:

Question: How big can you make a ET:QW map?
Anwser: Mumble, muffle, grunt, mumble…

Couldn’t they at least have picked a location without big fans in the background or given them a microphone at least?

(Shanks) #18

Ahh! Wils’ native language! Maybe he can translate for us

(Hakuryu) #19

I hope they don’t take too long before releasing the source art for the megatextures. Up until that time, any map created would consist of user made terrain textures, and in my poor artistic case - look like crap.

(JJeep) #20

What sort of time frame are we looking at here? If you have any idea

Oh, new question, same interview, the last question about the skybox, if I understand it correctly you can make the map as high as you want but you can still crash into the skybox?
