Question about Gun Customization

(ThiagoScala) #1

i was off for long time so i have to ask:

We will have gun customization? like: grip , flash hinder and sights this kind of things

(Mustang) #2

It was announced publicly that there would be, but nothing is in the external build yet.

(Nail) #3

I would think those would be store items

(acutepuppy) #4

I don’t mind a little trade off, but the customization in Brink was so overboard, every gun was just middle-of-the-road and unpredictable by the time it was customized.

(attack) #5

apply, but the most have anyway taken the 60 bullets magazin

(BAMFana) #6

I assume this is going to be cosmetic only, otherwise we’re going deep into pay to win territory.

(Mustang) #7

AFAIK they were always planned as play2win sidegrades.

(chippy) #8

Add attachments, sounds, skins whatever, as long as it’s all good and balanced and not a cheap way of getting an advantage.

On another note; If I can get a backpack long jump module such as this I’m gonna be a good boy until Christmas. Obviously it can’t be as extreme as it is in HL but still, loved it.

The design for this is still on-going. We’re currently thinking about allowing players to choose from around 6-10 different sidegrade attachments per weapon.

Only up to 3 could be equipped at any one time (Barrel, Magazine & Sight) and each one will have both a positive and negative effect to balance them out.

Again, this is only early stages of design so things are very likely to change before you see them

I have doubts about this, as we already have plenty of different weapons which alone leave a lot of balancing work.

(Mustang) #12

Gaming as a service.

(Hundopercent) #13

Just make sure you add a simple red dot reflex site and I’ll be happy. BLR and other games make all these ridiculous sites that are difficult to use and pretty much counter the entire purpose of the site.

(attack) #14

i see it coming:
atleast we get all weapons balanced, than come perks and it all starts again

Eugh, do not want any of this.

From a game play point of view:
Why not give each weapon it’s own distinct characteristics in terms of handling and let people learn them rather than provide ā€˜perks’ which effectively remove any identity to the handling characteristics between each weapon as people will just choose the perks that boost the weakest base factor of the weapon / or removes the hardest to learn aspect of the weapon (the ironsight/the recoil/the low ammo count etc).

There will always be one ultimate setup (biggest ammo/lowest recoil/easiest to use sight) chosen by the mass population… it has happened in every single game that has gone down the ā€œperksā€ road with weapons, not only in COD but i think your previous game in Brink was the biggest example of this with the Carb-9 SMG… everyone used the exact same perks with it… which just made the massive weapon selection that was provided completely useless and boring as it was just a selection of ā€œless lethalā€ weapons than the Carb-9 setup.

It’s essentially like providing great variety in weapon selection with the base characteristics and then as soon as you apply a perk system on top they all become near enough blended together to create the same ā€˜ultimate’ weapon.

Why not stick to an entire ā€œcosmeticā€ system which will not impact the quality of game play and will add further identity and diversity to making weapons more ā€˜personal’ to the player.

For me the benefits of having this system are nowhere near great enough to outweigh the negative impact this will have on the game play - just makes me cringe when the worst parts of COD/BF/Brink are being considered for Xt when in actual fact when these games when stripped back into a ā€œbarebonesā€ form removing the ā€˜gimmicks’, they are actually pretty good games (but there is no chance to experience this in public games as players are always looking for a shortcut to make the game easier = they perform better).

(trickykungfu) #16

totally agree with samuarai!

(fragon89) #17

if we wanted comp balanced game without districtions with perks its impossable. most of the perks if not all of them will be banned in 5-5s.
and another point, how it wil blend in with no p2w

(BomBaKlaK) #18

Unlocks ? grind ? with XP points something like this I suppose to keep people involved in the game (lot of people love it, personally I don’t care) Let see the business model first !

(Hundopercent) #19

Sam, go play BLR a bit and check out the customization there. They have the best customization setup I ever played. Back when their was somewhat of a competitive scene most players had different setups for their guns that catered to their play style. high dmg inaccurate SMG, low damage more accurate LMG, balanced AR etc.

May not be as good now since they revamped the recoil mechanics but its a very good system.

If you’ve been following you’d know that this is not the intention at all.
