question about fps

(GlUeYeS1) #1

is there a comand you can type in console to bump up your fps?
what are normal fps for w:et??the most i can get is about 95 fps on certain maps

Play around with the gfx settings in the options menu. Another method is tweaking the gfx config… but a knowledge of the cvars is needed to know what dpes what. A good place to help with making a tweaked gfx is config builder made by my clan mate =EoK=Saint. VERY handy indeedydoodoo

http://www.repsej.com/etconfig.php <— gfx config builder, go use, be amazed, tell your friends, eat, sleep, wake up, piss, tell more friends, rinse, repeat

RTCW 4 Newbies have helped me a lot. This one is also quite handy.

thanx for your help guys

(pgh) #5

com_maxfps 125

http://www.repsej.com/etconfig.php <-- lol, i wouldnt reccomend it…it might give u something… anyways…it ALSO writes some variables that doesent exist in et at all… (havent used it, but saw a output from one of my membs :stuck_out_tongue: )

Indeed, that will improve your framerate very nice… NOT!

Indeed set all the stuff to low in the game options menu, and then change some things in your console like atmosphericeffects and picmip, but you can better use the config builder that guy above me gave you.

Why would you want to have more than 95fps? Do you have magic new eyes that can see at that rate? :stuck_out_tongue:

Cap it at 60 or 70, if it’s steady then there’s nothing to be gained by seeking more.

(BondyBoy007) #10

There are certain “magic” numbers for the framrate that effect trickjumpingn (distance - height), these numbers (so I’ve been told) are 333, 125, 76 and 43. So if the original poster can get a steady 95fps and it never drops below 76 then cap it at 76 “com_maxfps 76”, I have mine capped at 76 with a bind to change it to 43 for certain pesky maps

True that your eyes cant usually see more than 50fps (hell films are at 25 or so fps), but it just “feels” better sometimes

I agree with bonyboy here… having more fps sometimes feels “special”

Like, you know that feeling you get when you’re leaning back on two legs of a chair, and u get that little rush just as you think you’ve gone too far and are about to fall…

… I feel like that all the time

(squadjot) #12

ur mouse sensitivy is affected by FPS (not the sensitivity as a value, but the feel) …feels like driving a car without servo/power steering

(pgh) #13

the most i can get is about 95 fps on certain maps

Hence the com_maxfps post mouse. If set on default (80/85) then in confined ‘high fps’ areas (eg tunnels, caves) then the counter drawn will show it jumping from 80-99. ETPro has a neat cg_drawfps [Value] and you can set how often you want the rate to be drawn/updated. Eg, I think its 75 or 750 I have and it gives me a more accurate and updated every few seconds counter.

Bondy. Im guessing your changing FPS max when you try to jump? Ive always found it easier to make jumps with higher FPS than lower? Or did I pick your comment up wrong?

(GlUeYeS1) #14

well my fps are around 85 to 95 so i put the comand for 76…Once again thnx for all your help guys :chef:

(pgh) #15

Sure tho they werent at that cos before they were limited to it? :stuck_out_tongue:

(Just checking btw.)

(BondyBoy007) #16

Apparently more does not neccesarily mean better when it comes to jumps, i.e.) if com_maxfps is set to 77 it would be worse (for jumping) than if it were set at 76 or even 43

The magic numbers have been discussed and explained in previous threads on this forum but II cba/haven’t got the intelligence to try and explain why,but I do know that the best maxfps’s to use (if your system is up to it and in this order) are 333, 125, 76 and 43.

So if the original poster is only getting 95 using com_maxfps 125 is not going to increase his frame rate to 125, only LIMIT it to 125 if for some reason he can get above 125 (maybe by looking at a wall)

I hope I make sense, I’m confusing even myself today

Exaclty what variables does it write that don’t exist? If they dont exist in ET its because SD removed them (like a few cvars and didnt really tell anyone). That config builder is adapted from his RTCW version… and it went down VERY well over at PW… something quite rare.
