quakewars pushed back?

(Approx01) #1

noticed some sites are listing quakewars for 3/1/07 now

(B0rsuk) #2

So ‘Fall 2006’ in official trailer was actually a lie ?

(Joe999) #3

forget what other websites say. if you trust on their release dates, you can as well rely on mine: september 06 :wink:

(fattakin) #4

this has been the same text ever since i posted it the first time here on the board which was quite some time ago, it hasn’t changed.

(nUllSkillZ) #6

So it’s fall 2007 (not 2006).

(ValinoR) #7

In the trailer it stands Fall 2006… So you say we should believe what a stupid website says?

(Joe999) #8

2007 is their fiscal year, not calendar year :wink:

(MuffinMan) #9

I guess not everybody is as stupid as the stalker guys - you don’t heat up the fans again and again without a release - that’s just the best way to lose customers. with all the infos on et:qw lately fall 2007 is quite unlikely

(fattakin) #10

phew thanks joe i hadnt noticed that site before and panicked!

(nUllSkillZ) #11

So when does activision’s fiscal year 2007 starts?
If it would be summer 2006 then the release date fall 2006 would be correct.

(Wils) #12

Fiscal years are from April to April, and are a year ahead of the calendar year (I can only guess that this is because it ends in the next calendar year).

[Edit: here’s a more accurate link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_year]

(AnarchyAngel) #13

Shame the trailer states “fall” as in Autum which is Sept/Oct/Nov not what quarter. From your own link.

* 1st Quarter: October 1, 2005 – December 31, 2005
* 2nd Quarter: January 1, 2006 – March 31, 2006
* 3rd Quarter: April 1, 2006 – June 30, 2006
* 4th Quarter: July 1, 2006 – September 30, 2006

Ive also got video footage of you stating you hope to get it out by the end of the year. But I might have you mixed with another SD employee. But I doubt it. Why do you mess with out heads Wils?

(Wils) #14

The only video footage of me shows me drinking Activision Water™ and helping someone play ETQW at E3…

(Pytox) #15

And the video on GTTV :smiley: with the interview about Quake Wars

(Darth) #16

why is that EB/Gamespot last week changed the ship date for this game from september to march next year ?

(Nerbil) #17

Activisions fiscal year ends at the end of March, so the start of their 2007 Fiscal Year would of been April 1, 2006.

Their game calendar website, still lists the release as Summer/Fall of Fiscal Year 2007. So, lets hope for a release before the end of the year. Hopefully the adjusted release date on websites like www.ebgames.com is incorrect.

(Hakuryu) #18

I believe it will come out this fall.

The reason is because of the game footage I watched from E3. Almost everything looked finished other than solo objectives, and I cannot believe with the core of the game looking that polished that it will take over another year to finish. It’s not like they make one map at a time, and dont start the next til its finished, and with the gameplay in place the only other really huge asset to complete would be the maps themselves and any artwork.

(Desoxy) #19

Well, who says that the gameplay is in place? In all interviews/articles/posts etc. I read about the gameplay SD stated that they are still adjusting the gameplay (by changing something and then “test it, test it, test it”). That’s why there is so little information about it (e.g. just look at the army-page on enemyterritory.com) - it isn’t even clear wether the footage from E3 can be taken for granted (for instance if Strogg-Technicians can revive or GDF-Cover Ops can disguise themselves as Strogg). The names/descriptions of the classes themselves are “not final, and are subject to change” as well.

From what I also heard the HUD on E3 wasn’t final, they still want give each side a distinctive look.

So there is a great chance that the game isn’t as completed as many people want it to be. Personally I’d appreciate it if SD took as much time as they need.

I don’t want Quake Wars to be the disaster that BF2 was - I want it to stay on my harddrive longer than two weeks. :clap:

Even IF the game wouldn’t be what you expected at all, (which is quite unlikely) it’s still interesting to see what mod teams make of it.
I believe that many mod teams want to get their hands on the new megatexture technology. Up untill ET:QW, the Doom 3 engine wouldn’t really scale well on large terrain based maps. Now is their chance to make the kick-ass mod they wanted to make, without all the hassle of keeping resources down in out-door areas. (Outdoor maps exist for Doom 3, it’s only that they mostly lag to death or are bad-looking.)
