QuakeWars Arena Modes

Since this is based on the Quake Universe, is there a possibility that Splash Damage can give us arena modes such as FFA, 1 vs. 1, CTF, etc.?

Since the game is primarily focused on MP and the engine and content appears to be much more advanced than Quake 4, could we get some of those modes for a game that does it all for us Quake fans?

I’m not asking for an identical copy of any previous Quake games, I’m just requesting some arena modes with a QuakeWars flavor.

Quake Wars only shares it’s universe…
But I was thinking: why not make a DM mod out of it? It might keep those ‘fragwhores’ away from objective servers…

doubt it. the game is based around a campain and fictioanl war setup and there has been no mention of any deathmatch style things

if u want to play this kinda stuff buy q3/q4 or make some custom maps when the game is realsed

Wolf ET has LMS (Last Man Standing) for anyone who wants a DM mode. It’s barely played.

I don’t know if that speaks more about our (in)ability to make a fun DM mode using the ruleset from a semi-realistic game, or the general interest in having such a mode.

It should be relatively easy to make a deathmatch mod for ETQW when it comes out, if that’s the sort of thing that floats your boat.

QuakeWars has newer and better technology – from what I’ve seen so far. Quake 4 lacks megatexture, liquids, vehicles, etc, etc.

megatexture is realy no adding a lot to deathmatch gameplay. liquids maby but in my experience in game deathmatches liquids are avoided is it often make you much easier target and makes it harder to shoot you oponents who are out of the liquid. vehicles perhaps but makeing areans large anough for this and still deathmatch could make it a lot of running about trying to find people (although halo does an ok job with thsi)

i dont see what you would realy gain from this kind of game that you would not better find in a game built ground up for deathmatching

We have enough good 1on1 and tdm games. Quake2 and Quake3. (with mods)

And btw Quake4 isent bad, i play the game alot dueling and its not THAT bad. (But it is kinda slow)

I tend to avoid playing online games that don’t have anti-cheat like PunkBuster:

I realize no anti-cheat is 100% perfect, but with a global banning distributions system via PunksBusted MBL, a lot gets done with PunkBuster.

I hope ET:QW supports PB. :slight_smile:

Yes, it’s a great idea this game is strategy based gameplay, not fragging gameplay.
Another interesting thing is that we can destroy machines (air or robots) with our usual guns ( i think they are special guns, with special fire strenght.

This can do more reliable the objective mode and strategy grows a lot of,
NO to machine domination.
NO to machine versus man wins always.
We need that (as i have seen i videos) every player with his gun can destroy machines.

I dont want to feel lost when i see a machine in front of me or when i am hidden and i can fire it, because i never will destroy it.
I think machines have to be stronger than characters, yes, but destroyable with common guns and munnition. The machines has to have too special places where to get down.
We could shot against machines and break the crystal.
Cover ops can shot to machine driver character and get down him with a only shot.

I spoke too soon, it does appear www.warsow has an anti-cheat now.

Wow, I just tried the game. It has everything Q4 is missing. Thank you for pointing it out. :smiley:

For an arena mod for ET:QW i guess you could increase the running speed by a lot.

And remove all spray, remove the charge bar, remove the classes (everyone can carry any items, and as much as they want), remove the sprinting …

(Not saying I don’t like the Quake games, I’m just saying how different Quake and ETQW will certainly be)

Its not that SD can’t make a fun deathmatch mode… its more likely that most people just dont like deathmatch.

It was fun back in the day when Half Life came out, but with the advances in gameplay in other modes, deathmatch is just boring.

There have been a few really good, memorable deathmatch games over the years. HL DM is not one of them :slight_smile:

well after not so big success of Doom 3 and Quake 4 I guess that classic DM is no longer in…
IMO both has very nice deathmatch modes

Well before HL, my only computer was a Radio Shack color computer 2, with its awesome tape cassete drive. I still remember having fun using that rocket launcher in HL with the guided feature to kill people behind stuff… fun stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

Awww… come on. HL DM had some cool levels. Sure the weapons were lame, but crossfire and bounce were pretty awesome.
