I know petitions usually don’t work but they definitely don’t work if they aren’t attempted.
So the link up there is to get ET as a sponsored tourney at Quakecon 2004.

I was planning on attending QC04 but heard that alot of the tourneys went to shit.
Honestly I will sign it but I think the petition would probably guarantee an official tourney spot for ET on next year QCon event. I still don’t agree with their (the con organizer) decision though. Doom 3 DM and Quake 3 1v1 I can understand, but Quake 3 CTF? They would’ve reached a wider audience with an ET/RtCW tourney instead (not to mention bridging the Splashdamage connection between Doom 3 and ET), but I suppose sponsor’s money speaks louder and so to have a tourney that could draw attention away from the marquee one (i.e. Doom 3) would not have been acceptable. Or they thought ET/RtCW players wouldn’t care for those gametypes. Oh well, it is thus.
As Rain pointed out in a thread on the ETPro forum, there’s the BYOC and if there is some form of “private” ET tournament there, hopefully ETTv (if it is released) could cast it. A good alternative as any I say.

Yeah you’d think that was something they’d pimp… from the makers of ET come D3 multiplayer…
AFAIK there was a poll at QCon forums months ago that showed huge support for RTCW.
That didn’t help, and even if this would succeed (which I really doubt) it’s most likely too late to get the best clans to go.
There’s a bloody great thread on Quakecons website about this ( http://www.quakecon.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1139 ). The way I read it is:-
ID want to push D3. D3 will mostly likely be of more interest to Q3 / DM type players than people who play ET team-based type games.
Quakecon claim the decision was theirs, and theirs alone, not ID’s or anyone elses, but I find that luduicrous tbh. There are far more RTCW and ET Clans than Q3CTF, and yet they’ve dropped RTCW, not included a ET tourney and added an extra 16 teams to Q3CTF, bringing it up to 32. Some observers claim there aren’t 32 active Q3CTF teams in the entire friggin World, so quite how that’s going to work I don’t know.
I can’t see any explanation making any sense other than ID putting pressure on the organisers to maximise D3 sales.
**** Q3CTF, **** it right in the ear, and **** Qcon too.
That’s all I have to say on the matter

i think you have hit it on the head there kendle, but their reasoning is crazy if you ask me.
D3 is all about the single player experience (as ID have stated in a number of interviews). So while d3 multiplayer WILL appeal more to q3 CTF players, i think iD would have been better off trying to attact the interest of as many games as possible, because most people will buy D3 for the single experience alone. In general, I would guess many RTCW / ET players wouldn’t be that interested in d3 multiplayer, but like me, are very excited about player d3 single player
So they have chosen to sponser a tournemnt for a tiny community (albiet one that is in their multiplayer ‘target market’) while ignoring a much larget community.
Overall i think an ET tournement (in conjuction with ET TV) would have bought far far more interest in qcon, and as a result D3, than a q3 CTF tournement ever could
Thanks for everyone’s support the past few days. So far, it’s at about 250 signatures. Tell your friends and online buddies or anyone you know with an interest in ET/RtCW.

People not using their real names to sign a petition, gee wonder why the petitions do not work…
I seriously doubt ET will ever be taken seriously at these ostensibly “sponsered” tourneys…after all…its a free game, no one is making money off of it, right?

A lot of people are paying money to hosting companies, so someone is making money (just not the ones who developed/published the game).
