uhmm…how about that
quake wars on Xbox 360
“The new wolfenstein game” (not “RTCW2”) was talked about a bit in the qcon videos, including that facts that Raven is working on it and that it is being developed simultaneously on PC and 360.
btw, Kevin Cloud:
and what we do with wolfenstein is creating this one large environment that is seamlessly loaded to the player as he explores his world
sounds like another megatexture usage. what i’m wondering is whether they invent the wheel again or if they reuse splashdamage’s quake wars engine for wolf2’s mp part. of course they’d have to migrate QW first to 360 then …
As far as I know the only one they’ve done before is Q4 and the 360 version of that was a half assed port. A game has to suck on either PC or console unless they make an entirely different version for each.
not necessarily. i don’t want to defend the totally boring and not innovative gameplay, but what i could read from the web is that quake 4 was intended to be an xbox360 launch title and hence the port had to be made very fast. and this resulted in a disaster, quake 4 is among the worst games of the 360 especially with it’s long loading times and stuttering. at the first look i would have said that this game came directly from EA, but it didn’t :uhoh:
I’m assuming that it is somehow related to the feature that has been mentioned for et:qw where you can load multiple .world files into one larger one almost like prefabs. With that as the method you could imagine them making each individual level a little smaller than normal, and then joining them all together in one larger file where the engine loads different sections as you pass close to a position where you could access them.
Of course they could just end up giving us a “seamless world” like hl2 has where all it means is that the loading screens are screenshots from the spawn point.
The vast majority of those games were done as PC games then seperate console versions were made later. That kind of development is fine, but going for the lowest common denominator of several platforms always results in an inferior game.
Well then, considering how id and Raven’s previous work has been primarily for the PC, I doubt they will be dumbing it down for the console gamers. I certainly got this impression from id after the latest Quakecon; they still love the PC, however they think the X360 has the best developer tools they’ve ever seen. Developing it in tandem probably means that they wish to avoid the problems in porting stuff afterwards, like with Quake 4.
I doubt we’ll see ETQW on the xbox. How the hell could you get the experience of playing 32+ ppl on a console?
what’s your point? the only experience you wouldn’t get is the mouse/keyboard controlling.
if M$ would allow mouse/keyboard controlling then i’d definitely play on the console instead of the pc. horsepower for low price, insert game & play instead of messing with copy protection crap, you don’t have to tweak graphics to get a decent framerate …
speaking of 32+:
btw: i just read that $ony supports custom maps for ut 2007. you can develop them on the pc and upload them to the ps3. i wonder if M$ will be able to do the same.
Wohoo! That’s great, unless we’re forced to download some crappy maps :bump: Oh, now I remember; I’m not even gonna get UT2k7 :moo:
guys, i know that ETQW will come out for 360 but ull need a usb connection to ur comp and since there both made from microsoft, i think that it’ll work out smoothly, but im not 100% sure… ASK PAUL
Source?

You need an USB connection to your PC to play ET:QW on your Xbox360?
(…) and since there both made from microsoft (…)
PC’s and the Xbox? Or USB ports?

after having read this article about joystiq playing cod3 at activision:
i’d rather want quake wars on the wii instead of the 360:
Yes, it might have GameCube quality graphics, but it adds boatloads of a much more important element: fun. All of the hand swinging and gesturing really immerses you in the game.
…
But if you want innovative gameplay, get the Wii and shake your hands in the air like you just don’t care.
who cares about graphics, i want to enjoy a game
only (major) drawback: the Wii version has no multiplayer
i never was into COD, but i think i’m gonna get that one to ease the wait for a QW demo.
360 cant handle those good graphics, so itll be alot worse on the 360 than on the pc, if it comes for the 360 that is
not so sure about that, but consoles require single player games more than online ones. iirc, the guys from id Software have expressed some interest in consoles, but I can’t see a direct port of ET:QW to console, don’t think online only FPS would cut it, it drops most of the console owners, they don’t have online accounts
Are you having a laugh?
Is he having a laugh?
Also the 360 has an over 50% attach rate with Live…
