Q3Map 2.5.11 - Always owning it, always looking good

Q3Map 2.5.11 - New Zealand

This is the “big open spaces” release. Skybox functionality, more models, -skyfix for ATI cards (correct GL_CLAMP), more lighting attenuation features, and new C++ compiler. Includes all-new DLLs compiled with Visual Studio .NET.

Note: this version should be installed in a seperate directory, as its DLLs might conflict with previous versions of Q3Map2 and/or GtkRadiant.

Download: Win32 - Linux x86

Download MSVCR70.DLL (thanks Pazur)

Version history/changes:

2.5.11 (2003-12-01)

- New: added support for _skybox entities to generate "portal sky"
surfaces in games w/o native support (Quake 3). _skybox entities have
3 keys: _scale (default 64), and angle/angles (for rotation of the
  skybox relative to the map)
- New: added -skyfix switch to BSP phase as a workaround hack for
the black GL_CLAMP border on skybox edges on ATI (and newer nvidia)
video cards. Note: unnecessary in ET or JA
- New: Added _anglescale to light entities for scaling angle attenuation.
Use a small value (< 1.0) to lessen the angle attenuation, and a high
value (> 1.0) for sharper, more faceted lighting
- New: Added _lightmapscale support to misc_model entities
- Custom shaders (external lightmaps, styles) will not be generated
if the find/replace text cannot be found
- Tightened up light culling epsilon from 1.0 to 0.125 to stop certain
surface lights from being incorrectly culled (thanks RasputiN!)
- Fixed bug where small 3 and 4 sided brush faces were getting fanned,
  adding triangle/vertex counts
- Moved to Visual Studio .NET, with aggressive optimizations enabled
- Cleaned up missing image warnings
- Parsing images out of shader stages if not found explicit/implicitly
- Loads Enemy Territory implicitMap images if editor/light image not found

Enjoy!

SCORE! Now to use it…

(pazur) #3

my windows xp says it can not find msvcr70.dll

edit:
the file is available here if someone has the same problem running 2.5.11:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr70

copy to windows\system32

but it would be cool to have a q3map2 without installing a .dll

(ydnar) #4

Thanks for the link, Pazur.

You don’t have to put it in windows directory though–it can be in the same dir as Q3Map2.

(pazur) #5

ah ok  so it will be next time included to q3map2 files

(redfella) #6

hehe y, you’re too fast!

/me is still stuck way back there on 2.5.7! :o I think I need to update… if nothing else then for the optimized light stages done in 2.5.10. _lightmapscale on models does sound cool.

Thanks y.

Thats included with the .net framework 1.1 - you can get it on windows update.

Ydnar, how hard would it be to include some sort of light sampling code where if you put a pointlight inside your “portal sky” that sampled light would illuminate the actual playing field (sort of a multiple amplified/directional sun)?

Example: Using the Pureblack texture, and you have a few columns in the portal sky with a white light illumiating from below, but in the actual level there isnt any pointlights or the like. Im just looking for lighting from the pointlight.

V^2

EDIT: This example is what im trying to achieve. As you should see, its pretty dark… you can make out the outline of some world geometry… I think that having a feature that would sample lights from inside your portal and project them into the world would make a nice feature.

actually, .NET 1.0 came with that dll if i remember… i have MSVS .NET (2002) and that comes with .NET 1.0 and SP 1.

1.1 has a few changes that aren’t compatible with 1.0.

Linux users can use the Mono Runtime Library (a port of the .NET Framework) to run .NET applications. Mono comes with a C# compiler, for all your development pleasure.

(Hybridesque) #10

Hmmm… the -skyfix seems to break the skybox (wierd seams but not in the same way like ATI cards) for cards that didn’t have an issue with GL_CLAMP. I run a GF2MX400 64Mb with 30.82 WHQL drivers for Windows 2000.

Any plans on “Call of Duty” support? Or do you ant to keep it away from the game to make sure E.T is played more? ;
Or some copyright issues?

(ydnar) #12

If Activision or Infinity Ward give us source code or file formats, it’s a possibility. Otherwise it’s pretty unlikely.

How do the current COD tools stack up anyway?

(rgoer) #13

Well, somebody over at q3w compared editing terrain in the COD editor with “sexual chocolate” … but that’s as much as I’ve heard.

(servinal) #14

Uh, what does Q3Map 2.5.11 have to do with New Zealand ?

(ydnar) #15

Train of thought went something like this: Skyboxes…big open spaces…LOTR…New Zealand.

(servinal) #16

lol
yeah i guess that would make sense to people who don’t live here

awesome new feature btw  ta.

(MMFSdjw) #17

I think it was on CODfiles.com I saw alot of negative response to the COD tools.
They said version of Rad is hoirdly buggy and there were no example files or tutorials.

That’s just what I remember, I could be completely wrong.

(brendaem) #18

Hi,

I tried .11 on a large map. It seemed to go really slow in the “Smooth Normals” stage compared to .10.

Take Care,
Brenda Make

P.S. Thanks for working of Q3Map : )

CodRadiant is like the good old q3radiant.
there are lot more buttons in it, like planting models or the advanced terrain tool.

terrain edititng is very nice.
you can paint a color on the patchetexture (terrain is not out of brushes any more).
So if you like to add burned grass or something like that it’s easy.

Concerning the brushwork it’s the same like in q3radiant.
but you can have LOD-Models (easy to build with xmodel) and r_speeds around 120k+.
Of corse there are bugs in the tools but with the COD patch a radiant patch is announced too.

(ratty redemption) #20

does it have a free look camera, like gtk radiant does? …thats one of my fav features in any 3d app Ive worked with, as it feels so much more natural then aiming the camera with keys.
