i hurt some thing about q3infofix is most be good for you 2.55 server
but what does it do and where to download ?

what is the point of staying out-dated with 2.55. omg so many bugs. thats just why updates are made. now u splitting the community… i tried 2.55 some times cuz my friend has a clan there.
the things i thought were:buuuuuuuuuuuuuug! buuuuuuuuuuuuuug! just impossible.
does a 2.55 serv cost less or sth? in my country all you can order is 2.60b with etpro or gaymod cough jaymod.

im selling my server and the buyer want it on 2.55 thats why im not going to 2.60b
so q3infofix is then good? (and where to download)

IIRC, q3infofix only protects you from the DOS attacks and nothing more. There are other, nastier more significant liabilities posed by the buggy 2.55 binary. I would strongly advise against only doing the q3infofix, if it is even available as a stand alone patch anymore. I haven’t seen it in ages. Use 2.60b for server safety and because it’s not borked.

A lot of the private hacks out there still only work on 2.55. That’s a big part of the reason there’s a lot of people on that version, and some server admins stay there to claim that traffic.

Thats nonsense jaybird, no cheat maker would make cheats for a game version with a playerbase of arround 1000 people max. The old hacks are busted by Punkbuster just as good on 2.55 as on 2.60b, and the new hacks arent busted on any version.

I sticked with 2.55 until 1.5 years ago, because the clan I co-founded played 2.55 (and still does), this is still the reason why a lot of people play the old version. Also people who just installed ET dont feel like starting to patch it immeadiatly I think.

Why? It is well known that the updates fix numerous bugs, including several critical security exploits. To this day I have not been given a single serious answer to the question “why don’t you upgrade”.

And if you re-read my post you’ll notice I never said new private hacks. I mean old ones. People have paid good money on these things and some don’t want to give that up.

Hack-3.55 works with ET 2.55 and to this day is undetected. Hack-3.60 works with ET 2.60 and is detected. Instant sticklers for 2.55. And this is more common in hack evolution than you would think. Why would Punkbuster waste resources detecting hacks for the oldest versions of ET anyways? It seems to me for that reason alone non mainstream versions of ET are a prime target.

with around 1/3 of the 2.55 servers NOT running punkbuster, and tons of public hacks still working on 2.55, there is only one reason I can see to have a 2.55 server

And yet that’s what they should do with all software they install if they want to stay “safe” on the 'net. Besides, if they just installed the game they probably don’t even have the “allmyfriendsplay2.55” excuse. :wink:

maybe i should downgrade myself to windows 95 cuz it was sooo cool and all my friends have it.
