Pure servers

Crikey im in a bad mood. I’ve just spent the last 20 minutes trying to have a game of ET. But the server list is littered with 100s of servers all running their own custom models, custom sounds, custom mods…

All i want is a pure server, maybe running etpro I’m not fussed. Can I make a formal request that the ET:QW browser has a “show/hide pure servers” toggle for people who just want a quick 30min shootup.

Now i have to get back to work and all I’ve done in my break is get annoyed.

I’m not normally demanding and whingy, but I can’t beleive how much things have changed since I last played ET.

yeah a pure server would be pretty cool, a big reason i stopped playing is i just cant find a no frills pure server anymore. hoping someone knows one :slight_smile:

I really miss vanilla ET, old school 3 map campaigns, no xpsave crap. Sure there are a few of those out there, but when you get lucky you’ll probably realize the server stays empty.

I find that with short campaigns and xp resetting people play better, they just concentrate on objectives. You won’t see an engineer just gain level 4 status and then decide he wants to go cover ops because he wants more stats. People would usually stick to their class for the complete campaign.

I can tolerate the 6 map campaigns, they can be fun. But I admit that even I switch classes in those scenarios. Temptation is just to big. If you haven’t noticed, what is best for the team is sticking to what you do best and taking advantage of the awards you already have been given. A level 1 engineer who is also level 4 medic gets absolutely nothing for those awards.

Looks like some people still share my POV as ETQW is promising four 3-map campaigns. I think they know what they are doing :smiley:

It should be shown in the browser which mods (in case of W:ET pk3-files - would be pk4-files for ET:QW) are running on a server.
There was a suggestion before here in the forums.

glad to see im not alone on this…

I’m now weighing up the decision to carry on with CS:S and it’s mild annoyance or fork out £9 for a month’s worth of WoW.

FWIW, pure just means the server and client are forced to have the same files, not that the server has no custom content.

Use an external server viewer like The All Seeing Eye, and you can filter servers much more, and get what you want.

Its also possible to stop ET from downloading that skin/sounds/… crap from servers. You only need the maps and correct etpro or some other mod version if its not etmain server

Unfortunately a lot of servers have their own campaign files (and some of them also a stupid watermark), so disabling downloads doesn’t work that well.

ASE filters are nice, but can’t filter out servers with custom pk3 files.

i have disabled downloads and works for me. You dont need those campaign files to play. You just dont see which maps are in campaign on that loading map if you dont have it.
Watermark is not needed to play either imao.If you dont have it,you just dont see it.

I’ll be upgrading to etpub 0.7.2 and the final version of v2base soon.

etpub 0.7.2 is up. Sadly I think I have the latest version of v2base which appears to have a spawn bug.
