if there is one thing i can thankfully rely on in this world, it is a cogent reply from SCDS.
truthfully, it may or may not be the best solution, but it is a start. And there may be issues down the road (e.g., someone buys banned comp, brother not able to play cause other brother cheated, etc), but there seems to be a huge witch hunt regarding cheating lately. and i do not think PB are behind it. Yes, there are cheats and cheaters out there. Playing on pub servers is really not much fun anymore because of the player attitudes: most people tend to overestimate their own playing abilities. When you own them, they accuse you of cheating, etc. I posted a screen cap one day on a clan website where their members banned me for “hacking” and insisted I was cheating. The invective and nasty comments were what prompted me to take the cap (the demo was good too). Out of 25 replies to my post, only 1 person noticed one thing and asked: how are you getting 125 FPS on radar?
Not a perfect system. There are plenty of gamers out there who do not cheat and most cheaters suck as players anyway–ergo, the reason they cheat. But a little rationality can go a long way. This is a start. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. I doubt the ET Pro system will supplant Punkbuster. There are many issues that need to be worked out in both systems.
Now, the relevant question should be: when are activision going to hire the ET Pro team and when should they buy Evenbalance? Evenbalance has done a lot to try and help the community. They’re ripe for a deep pockets take over. And the Et Pro team, bani in particular, has done alot for Actvision over 2 games for nothing. Imagine having these technologies integrated from the publisher?
Bani would do well in making sure games go out with some nice features. If I were activision, I’d be all over him.
