Punkbuster

(Pinkelf) #1

My friend is having trouble updating Punkbuster for ETQW. He says ““Punkbuster had trouble autoupdating” and it does this after a period of time in a server” Any advice/help would be appreciated.

(Side note I finally got my ETQW to work XD)

Try doing it manually from evenbalance.com

Running PBSetup usually clears up any PB issues. It’s a small .exe download (official - from punkbuster). It’s pretty straightforward

Hey pinkelf punkbuster support for this game is down but you can get the latest punkbuster update following the links on this thread. Altough you have to register on that site :frowning:

I’ve downloaded the files and place in my pb folder but still getting kicked for not being able to update, missing a131 c2.11

new install but OS (xp) may have had it installed some time ago, other pb games installed and both services running

I uploaded Punkbuster’s etqw folder in appdata for someone else and it worked for him. You can try it if you like.

The up-to-date Punkbuster data folder for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

WINDOWS 7 - The location line to extract should be
C:\Users%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PunkBuster

WINDOWS XP - According to Bondyboy007, one of these should work:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PunkBuster
and/or
C:\Documents and Settings%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\PunkBuster

there are ALOT of ppl that are having this problem i suggest everyone direct those ppl to this thread

You can type “fs_savepath” on the game console. It will give you a Hard Disk local with the end:
“(…)/Id Software/Enemy Territory - Quake Wars”

Remove this end and put “PunkBuster/ETQW/pb” so it will turn into:
“(…)/PunkBuster/ETQW/pb”

This is the place to put the Legacy PunkBuster files, acording to what i got from Biosnark post. Since some people had success puting the file there, worth the try.

What, exactly, worked?

I tried putting that “ETQW” folder into “C:\Documents and Settings[myname]\Local Settings\Application Data\PunkBuster” along side the PB stuff from other games. No joy.

I tried replacing my “C:\Program Files\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\pb” folder with that one. No joy.

Heck, I even tried the two different downloads from PBBans.com. No joy.

(I’m using XP, if you couldn’t tell that already.)

(BioSnark) #13

Not to be obvious but it’s giving the auto-update fail error message and not some other pb error, right?

(False Modesty) #14

The auto-update message.

I ended up putting it in loads of places, didn’t work when in the folder you specified

run fs_savepath in the console to give you the path - I’m in work atm so can’t check for sure but iirc it wasn’t in the user tree

(BondyBoy007) #16

I have the contents of the file biosnark posted in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PunkBuster

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\PunkBuster

Hope this helps

(False Modesty) #17

Thanks, BondyBoy, but I tried that and it still didn’t work. I’m stumped.

(BondyBoy007) #18

I just did a search and it looks like I smashed those files in a couple of other places in frustration:-

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PunkBuster\

C:\Documents and Settings[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\id Software\

C:\Documents and Settings[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\PunkBuster\

Before that I had also downloaded the legacy pb files and smashed them a couple of random places, I think I’m also using a copy of the install from the old PC so it could have been any variable that fixed it

(ispellcorrectly) #19

:frowning: Non of these worked for me :frowning:

When your done pasting the two separate file downloads in the two correct locations, you must restart your computer for them to take effect. If your having any problems, your probably not following the steps correctly.
