Punkbuster problems

What happens: during a map load players randomly get disconnected from whatever server they are on. The player will see a “disconnected for unknown reason message” after they are disconnected. Everyone else sees that they were kicked by punkbuster for timing out to the punkbuster server (I don’t remember the exact message).
This problem began recently and is being very persistant. Sometimes i’ll go for hours without encountering the problem (but I’ll still see others kicked because of it). Other times i’ll encounter the problem every single time another map loads.

Anyone know what is going on?

As long as its not fixed, just play on punkbuster disabled servers, instead of getting kicked constantly :disgust:

ANY problem that causes the client to crash or that prevents a map from loading properly on the client will eventually result in a PB Init Failure message on the server. The PB error message is therefore a symptom, not a cause. If you have specific problems with your setup, please provide more details about your system and configuration.

The “Server disconnected for unknown reason” is an ET BUG, in the way that it’s supposed to list the reason you were disconnected, but doesn’t.

Drop down the console, scroll past the init section for the main menu, and see if it lists a reason for disconnecting you from the server. That way you can investigate why you were kicked and possibly what you can do about it.

Like above, the problem didn’t start with PB. The error message is basically saying that the server dropped the player without telling PB about it, and PB is reporting that it lost track of the player.

Oh really… didnt know this :> - always thought it was when PB dropped you when timing out to its server. Just presumed it used this error as well as the actual Time Out one… ta.

Yes, it’s just my computer that’s causing it. I’d accept that if it always happened, or I had recently made some changes to my system, or if it just happened to me. Strangely enough, last night I was able to play just fine but several other people were being kicked by punkbuster during map loads. It never fails to happen.
Also, sometimes it happens after i’ve finished loading the map and am actually playing for a second or two. In those cases after I reconnect the other players told me they saw the PB Init Failure message.

It never fails to happen as PB, as much as can be a help, is a nuisance most of the time. But, at least work is still being done. Any problems/suggestions you think could help or be fixed then im sure the PB webby has some report system, email and/or forums. Try there first then i’d suggest coming here, or just both.

And, im not meaning that to sound cheeky, I just believe that as much info as Admins, Testers etc from ere know about PB, Id imagine the makers would know more. :]
