I have a question about punkbuster!
I have a server ET2.60b Noquarter 1.2.7 and I would like to turn on punkbuster, I try but it created lag spike. The only thing I absolutely do not want on my server is the lag! Does any of you would have an interesting config command has to change for punkbuster to stop anoying players with the lag?

as far as i know you can set it client side, think it was pb_sleep set to a high value. not sure if you can also set this value server side. but one thing for sure. pb lags are way too overestimated. i even heard someone complaining about
“uh i have 20 fps because of that pb”
not true. there are scanning intervalls, at the end of each intervall you will get a small lagspike. i simply cant hear it anymore the complains about pb. are they all imagination ? they even say when that new update came out it caused lag. but how can that be so tremendous if it scans only every few minutes and then you will get a small lagspike.
dont get it, never had these issues 
punkbuster defenitely causes lags since the last update … 97% of the players on my servers are complaining … pb_sleep doesnt help 'em at all … neither any server config … so we all have to live with it at the moment …
… im one of the 3% (dont ask me why im not laggin’)
… maybe its my hardware or my slow internet xD

Lot’s of people bash pb and I can agree that it’s not optimal anymore, but without it ET would have died long ago…

true but now a lot of servers dont use punk anymore…welcome for all the cheaters around…

It also has been killing ET atleast as much as it has been making it not die… It’s a lot of people who have not been able to or can’t anymore play because of PB. PB still makes my game crash, even tho I have tried every possible and impossible solution. So I have to play on servers that has PB disabled. Speaking of other problems too.
what OS did you use?
Do you gave ET and PB admin rights?
Is ET running in a compatibility mode?
If not, do it.
Another interesting thing; Lot less PB lag when you give it admin rights and affinities! ^^ Which is always nice.

On Windows XP administer user. It used to work, but after formating I have not been able to get it to work, been like 9 months. I think it is a GFX driver issue, but haven’t found one that it would work with. Luckily my favorite server is non PB.
One reason people prefer W:ET over a game like Call of Duty 12 is because of the minimal specs. It’s just silly people have that much problem with this new version.
I use drivers downloaded from main board’s site, but not from graphic card’s web (in my case, Gygabite instead of Nvidia). Dunno if it could help with your PB troubles.

Bah, the racist card. Do not blame ET for YOUR lag problems. I have never had major lag spikes (unless the server host sucks) nor fps spikes in 3-4 years.
I have these lag spikes, and they’re from PB. Using Wireshark and other various packet and connection sniffers, the 1-2 seconds of a lag spike where my FPS will go from 43 to 13, is when PnkBstrB sends or recieves information from PB itself. After a few minutes, the lag spikes will stop. Then a few minutes before the game ends, it’ll happen again.
It happens to about 85% of all players I’ve talked to.
@{SSF}Sage, try: delete pb folder in the ET installation, then install Punkbsuter with pbsetup.exe, complete/repair/verify the install with pbsvc.exe.
Incase you still have problems and are using and old etkey, try deleting (have a backup) the etkey and connect again.
This works in 99% of cases except you have other stuff installed which makes problems with pb.
Or administrator rights issues…
I heard if you downgrade your PB to a earlier version, it works, since the problem is only with the newest version of PB.
hm … maybe its possible to block the autoupdate (serverside) … but then you will have a problem at clientside … cuz there will be the newest one
there is a command to make pb scan using the old method… maybe that helps
