Protocol Mismatch Between Client and Server.

I got ubuntu 7.04 and installed ET and the update successfully on my new linux rig (“version” is:“ET 2.60 linux-i386 Mar 10 2005” default:“ET 2.60 linux-i386 Mar 10 2005”). Now I try to join my favorite ET server as I would do in ET on WinXP (latest version) but i get the error…

ERROR: ERROR: Protocol Mismatch Between Client and Server.

The server you attempted to join is running an incompatible version of the game.
You or the server may be running older versions of the game. Press the auto-update button if it appears on the Main Menu screen.

Shouldn’t the latest version of ET for linux work with the latest ET of Windows?

It does. Perhaps the server you are trying to connect to runs an older version. Mar 10 2005 is 2.60. There is also a 2.60b update, but this is protocol compatible with the original 2.60.

According to serverspy.net, my fav server runs 2.55…so the win32 client v2.60 can join a server running v2.55?

Nope. You must have been running the old .exe or had both installed under different names or something like that.

well their server has a new ip, probably new server, so i guess they havent update or something…o well, thanks for your help.

well it works, but how about support for 2.55? and it doesnt seem to support 2.60b…

no one in their right mind should play on 2.55, way too buggy

lol, about 1/5 of the servers are running 2.55…

lot of them are cheat servers, the rest are just people dumber than rocks
