Profiles on LANs

(Croaker) #1

I was wondering - I play on a lan at a friends house, and was wondering if there is any way of storing people’s profile settings on the server, so that whatever pc people go to on the lan, they can just select the appropriate profile from within ET, and use all the settings there?

We’ve got a linux dedicated server btw

Copy your profiles etc. to the server and then make them available to the users (e.g. as a network drive using samba). Then the users have to set fs_homepath to the correct path (e.g. X:\Profile\User42 when you linked the netdrive to the letter X). See this thread for more info about fs_homepath. This will add some network traffic, but I guess it doesn’t matter on a LAN.

Can you use UNC paths in fs_homepath?

I don’t know, but I guess “Yes”. Simply try it out. If it doesn’t work and the clients use M$ Windows you can get around it by assigning a drive letter to the UNC-folder and access the folder via this letter.

Hi Croaker

Possibly use one of the XP machines as holder of the profiles, experiment tonight.

I can change all my settings in about 30 seconds, its only Dark One, Red and the like that have problems.

Should be every one but Sven tonight 14+ players on a lan!!!

C’mon
