Problems..

([FD-NL]imurderu) #1

Sinds a week i have a ADSL multi-pc modem and a new connection speed, namely 160 KB/sec but here’s the problem

9 out of ten games i wanna join say “Server connection timed out” or “server for low pings only”

When i finally succeed in getting on a server then my ping is fine and i never get complaints about me lagging.
I phoned my service provider but they are as puzzeled as me (as usual)

Anyone know how to resolve this problem ??

some servers give me ‘server is for low pings only’ the first time i try to connect (even though i ping like… 30 thru ase) but when i click reconnect i get in just fine.

I can get on maybe 10% of the severs, while i have a very fast ADSL connection.

HELP i wanna play !!!

try changing connection settings in system. Maybe if you change them it will help, i dunno :bored:

me too

yep i get this alot too,
i put it down to joining through ase, and then me poor old doggy pc
is flat out loading megs and megs of the game when it tries to connect ramping my ping above the limit.

well thats my theory <:-)

ps i never us ingame browser…

It feels this way indeed, like the machine is doing somuch work it has no memory left to connect or something to that effect.
A little detail is that the first few minutes of the first game i join will be laggy as hell, then at a certain point it fades away and i can play normally with a very good ping (and then i own the game :))

Still strange while i have 1000 Mhz and 256 RAM on WIN2000, i tweaked ET as far as neccesary, my machine can handle it, my connexxion can, but something gives the servers the idea i have a low ping.

Im not convinced that machine problems is the source of the server time out’s though sinds i shared my ADSL my email gets in late, IRC starts up slow and i get timeouts using ET.

Is there some network setting i can try ? or some game command that fixes this problem.

It really IS a big problem for me, its no fun when all ur clanmates are on a certain server and i cant join em while i have the fasted connexxion of them all !

Again, HELP ! would be much appreciated !

When you search for internet games, sort the listing by PING values… what are the lowest values that you see? Can you join these games?

([FD-NL]imurderu) #9

I see a lot of ping 1 servers and then ping 30 and higher, the list of them is enormous i never join a server with a ping higher then 35.

It doesnt seem to matter if the server is ping 1 , 30 of 60.

It seems like -for whatever reason- that my ping slowly builds up, but at the time of connecting may be thus poor that the server decides to reject me because it gets its signals not returned fast enough.
I get the feeling that if all servers give me 10 seconds more time to connect i wouldnt have any problems, but they dont…

I might be wrong about all of this, but this is what it seems to do from my perspective…

All seeing eye has a setting that limits the % bandwidth for pinging…
This tends to provide acurate pings…

I usually get some 1’s int he in game browesr but they aren’t really…
(I never see those in ASE…)

Also don’t select servers with pings in yellow, cause they consider you “high ping”…

I suggest trying some 2nd party game searching engine… see if that helps

I have ASE installed but i never use it, thanks on the remark about the yellow severs , i didnt know that

Im gonna try ASE next time i go play, but…160 KB/sec must be enough connection to play on 90% of all the servers minimum, not “just” 10% (on a lucky day)

Seems to have something to do that my PC is not state-of-the-art and/or my new ADSL router.

I just tested my connection on a Dutch site and i get 160.9 KB sec down, 26.4 KB/sec up and about 600 conn/min.

I cant see what my ping is on that server, and is says something about when u have firewall or proxy server installed then the test wont work.
I have no firewall and i dont really know what a proxy is.

Might this “proxy” be a reason why this test wont work and maybe the source of my problem ?

Just guessing… :frowning:
