Problems w/ the 2.6 Patch

(Fungis) #1

I downloaded the ET_Patch_2_60.exe file and dragged into my etmain folder. I’ve tried to play on a few servers and get the following error
“Error: Protocol mismatch between client and server.
The server you attempted to join is running an incompatible version of
the game.
You or the server maybe running older versions of the game. Press the auto update button if it appears on the Main Menu Screen.”

The auto update button never appears. I downloaded the patch selector, what do I do with it? Do I drag it into the etmain folder? How does it work? There were no instructions. Will it automatically choose what version to run or do I have to bind keys?

Need Help. Can’t play ET. Thanks D|A Fungis

try running the patch by double clicking on it, you shouldnt be placing it into your ET folder

I’ll give it a try. I have it on my desktop and will launch it from there. Its my understanding that I’ll only be able to play on the servers that have already updated the w/ the patch. Correct?

Do you know anything about the patch selector and how that works? I’m trying to figure out if it runs on its own or if I have to bind keys to be able to switch between versions of the patch.

Sorry if I sound like a boob, I’m not tech savy. Thanks for your help.

Torchy is not saying you have to remove it from your ET folder btw :). Just that putting it in your ET folder doesn’t do anything at all…
You have to double-click it to run the Patch-installation program, point that to your ET folder and all should be working fine.

Deserves a quiet night…

Yes, if you install the patch you can only play on servers that have updated to the latest version.

I think you have to run the patch selector ‘on its own’, but I’m not sure…
Doesn’t it come with a readme? :o

Use WinZip or WinRAR to extract the patch selector files into your Enemy Territory directory. After that you should have some files called 100.txt, 102.txt, and 260.txt (amon others) in your Enemy Territory directory. Rename them to 100.bat, 102.bat, and 260.bat. That’s all!

If you want to switch to the 2.60 patch, go to your Enemy Territory directory and double click 260.bat. For the 1.02 patch, double click 102.bat. For the original game (1.0), double click 100.bat.

After you run the patch you want, start ET normally. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the responses. Got it to work. The first problem was that the patch was running I just couldn’t get into servers who hadn’t updated w/ it. The selector I aslo got working, the originial download came w/ patch files not bat files.

Once again Thanks and see you on the battlefield!
