i can be in server for few minutes before it happens
i had reinstalled my et, but nothing

(im gettin a nasty suspition winxp updates are starting to kill old hardware mmmmm…my cd drives wont even open anymore…)
windows updates can sometimes trigger windows firewall on, make sure it’s off or that ET and punkbuster are allowed

coz my cp owerheated before
it just starts doing restarts when it owerheats
it could be windows prob coz my cp doesnt let me to turn on firewall

Maybe its that problem you get when u dl a corrupt file? I had that once and I had to reinstal and get rid of all of the files that I dled when playing et (maps, skins, mods etc) couse one of them was corrupt and caused my ping to go 999 after a few mins every time I joined a server.
I’ve had the same exact problem a couple of times. I would join a PB server, and within a couple minutes my machine would totally freeze. In the process of trying to fix this I tested every single component in my PC, but never found exactly what the problem was. However, since it somehow resolved itself, I’m guessing that it was an overheating issue. This may or may not be it. You might want to try dusting it out as someone mentioned, or maybe open your case and aim a small fan in it to help circulate air.
This was very frustrating for me when I was having this problem because ET is just the greatest game ever and not one game on the market gives me the same satisfaction when I play.
Oh yeah, I’ve also had my CD drive quit opening for a while, just glad it wasn’t my DVD burner.
no win updtaes allowed ? sounds like Microsoft thinks your operating system isn’t legitimate, this could cause many problems
some things to try 
update to 2.60b
fresh install in diff location (to see if its a baulked map file)
it used to be reccomended that if you had a small hard drive try to leave half of it free for disk/mem usage (will speed up the time it freezes to the dropout/error msg page
open your pb folder and click pbweb.exe (it will update pb)
check ur name has no strange banned caracters (pb dont like names beginning with / ect…)
try a non pb server to confirm its pb causing the problem

I bet servers without PB will work, they did for me when I was experiencing this same problem (2 times). I just wish I could give a better answer of how my ET started working again, but it was a total mystery to me.
I have the same problem (hard lock up soon after joining a server).
I’ve tried re-installing pb…no joy.
Loosing track of how many updates EvenBalance have released that have had serious problems.

I have same problem and i know other people who also have it. Started some 3 days or so ago. i have reinstalled everything except windows 
Anything in your system logs? First place I always look for information when something doesn’t work right.
Right click My Computer->Manage
Will open a window, on the left hand side open “Event Viewer”.
Click on Application and System, and peruse the entries for any errors or warnings that happen at the exact time your ET locks up.
This may give you an idea of whats happening.
Updating to the latest Nvidia graphics drivers seems to have solved the problem.
