problem with 800x600 bug

I use a batch file found on these forums to cure the bug that causes youre video settings to default on startup if you last played ona shrub server. i want to make a shortcut that sends et to a specific server on starup instead of the main menu. I have the shortcut and it works perfectly, only problem is when i replace et.exe in the batch with my shortcut the batch file no longer works. no error messages or anything it just flashes the dos box for a half second.

del shrubet\profiles\DULLJKR266\profile.pid

et.exe % *

thats the batch file im using, i have the shortcut inthe same folder as et.exe as well.

first of all, your batch file should use
et.exe %*

that is %* without a space. Once you fix that, you can make the shortcut go to your batch file, instead of et exe. Set the target to
et.bat +connect blah blah blah

You might also be able to run a shortcut with start…

If you are meaning that you want to execute a Windows shortcut from the DOS batch file, then you will need to use this form:

start “c:\shortcut folder\shortcut.lnk”

…replace the path & shortcut name with the correct path & name of your shortcut. You need the .lnk extension at the end, and the quotes are there in case the path or shortcut name has spaces in it.

thanks for the help man but now i get an error saying there are no file associations for this type file and that i need to set one up in the folder options control panel.

Dunno why its doing that but…

Open a Folder > Tools > Folder Options > File Type/Extension Tabs.

Check all the files extenstions and types that you’ve been working with. Might have one as summit it shouldnt be… might also be trying to run an invalid extension from the bat, again, typo in the code?

Or just make the shortcut into another batch file.

Like I have a etstart.bat for the 800*600 bug, and a etpro.bat that looks like this:

del etmain\profiles\SickBoy\profile.pid 
del shrubet\profiles\SickBoy\profile.pid 
del etpro\profiles\SickBoy\profile.pid

et.exe % +set fs_game etpro

well i got it to work, finally figured ut what scds_reyalP meant and that worked great. checke dthe extensions list, the lnk extension isnt even inthe list so maybe thats was the problem. oh well its working now thanls for the help guys.
