Problem downloading maps and possible work around.

Many times I have joined a server and a map starts downloading but then stalls partway. I have noticed that when this happens if I ctrl+alt+delete to bring up the Windows Task Manager (I have Win XP) that the download will immediately resume. If I then close the task manager, the download will stall again. In these situations, as long as I keep the task manager open the download will complete. I dont have to do anything with it, it just has to be open. Most times the download will never stall in the first place. The stalls seem to happen at random.

Any ideas why this is happening, and why opening task manager has this effect?

The download isn’t stalling, it’s a bug in the ET display code. It’s not updating properly so what you see is the same percentage complete each time. Opening the task manager changes the way windows tries to draw the screen, essentially forcing ET to show the screen which has the correct percentage on it (which is what ET is failing to do. IT draws the correct percentage but then seems to switch screens twice, resulting in you seeing the old percentage).
