Pretty good but needs RPGs

(MrSnipes) #1

Well i had fun but i think it lacks ways to take out the vehicle… maybe it needs rpg’s but i might be wrong i have never eally played with more then 2-4 ppl yet so maybe im wrong.

I think that there is a perfectly good way to include some sort of RPG/Rocket launcher into good FPS games these days. I’d want it to be a really skillful weapon though. My idea involves very low splash damage on impact with environmental objects, but a fairly good size blast when it connects with a player model directly. The flip side would be much greater damage on the EV and turrets.

I’m sure heavier weapons like grenade launchers and rocket launchers make it into the game someday. Some situations like a 5-up on objective could use one and boy would that be exciting.

The fact that it’s hard to stopp EVs is due to the fact that nades, as well as air strikes, do not make enough damage. As for the nades: besides their limited flight physics, everyone has just a single one. So getting the next one means to first die and respawn. :stroggtapir:

What concerns the idea with the bazooka/rocketlauncher, I totally agree and i’m sure that this is planned anyway. Though, I don’t want to see its damage reduced whether it hits a certain object/player or not. This is also not at all necessary, as a skillfull bazooka/rocketlauncher/panzerfaust/whatever imo is characterised by the way how it’s handled/played - not by restrictions made to its damage on different objects. :penguin:

Cheers

Don’t think there would be many that would disagree with this.

A slower than normal projectile is another idea on this topic.

(amazinglarry) #7

BFG900 plz.

As annoying as I find people who are good at using 'nade launchers and panzers et al are, they are definitely required in games like this as far as I’m concerned. I just want the ability to recognize that I may be in some serious danger and be able to at least try to react and get away. So I’m all for slower projectile weapons, or at the very least, a very recognizable weapon (visually and aurally) eg Panzer. Once you hear the charge noise, you know **** is about to go down.

(ImageOmega) #8

I think there is definitely a place for this as there was a place for the panzer in RTCW. Nothing quite like taking out an entire team with one panzer and sending them back to their spawn timers. =)

With EV’s being part of the game, an rpg of some sort would definitely be a lot more viable.

This could possibly bringing back up the conversation from before, Ammo packs refilling your nade  Lets have it, Ammo packs refill ammo and your grenade.

(Violator) #10

A very early build had a nade-launcher dude (soldier 3) so there is hope :).

(INF3RN0) #11

That weapon only really got kills on the super cramped version of WC, but it atleast required you to get the nade to hit directly in order to be semi-useful. I liked the idea that someone couldn’t just sit and spam it with much success as the nades were pretty weak with no cooking time. I remember the annoyance it caused when we were messing with combining it with a FOPS, even though we bottom fragged pretty consistently haha.

Bring back the RTCW Panzer!

ET ruined the Panzer IMO, just not good enough to be worth wasting a class on, but the RTCW Panzer was very powerful and most teams had a dedicated Panzer player. You’d have to balance it to be sure, like give it a decent recharge time so it couldn’t be spammed, but as the game fairly heavily uses the EV at the moment we need a better way of stopping it.

Personally I think the EV is too slow, sometimes it’s very hard for the attacking team to move it along, like the last stage of London Bridge, so I’d favour increasing the EV movement speed. Having a rocket launcher to stop it would be a good counter-balance to that, as well as making the Soldier more useful.

(Violator) #13

It wasn’t good at player kills (was very good at TKs in my hands at least), but was actually very effective in disabling the EV - it took 5 or 6 shots iirc. On a side note with the EV, I find a lot of the time most of the team is rambo-ing away leaving muggins to escort the EV on his own.

(Pytox) #14

We defo need smth like the panzerfaust
Maybe some aiming sort of like in half life?

(Reacto) #15

I know it might be small-minded, but I really don’t see the need for a RPG/noobtube.

(.Chris.) #16

Because?

I would like to see the rocket launcher return, would give soldiers the means to disable EV and be more useful on defence for those maps, would provide a way to blast holes in a defence when on the attack. I would use the ET:QW style rocket launcher, no charge bar, long reload, not be overpowered against infantry, useful against vehicles/deploys and have arced trajectory.

(scre4m.) #17

bring me a panzerfaust!

Should 1 hit kill engie turrets and do some damage to that EV. But pls no explosive radius for 5 kills per shot.

(j4b) #18

Agree with the panza. At least we need something more powerfull to dissble ev’s. They are build up in seconds but need to many nades, airstrikes whatever to be disabled.

(Hundopercent) #19

Without one I doubt the solider class will ever be played competitively. I’m not a fan of the panzer but I can definitely see now why it was on the soldier class. All they need to do is add slow travel time to the rocket so you can’t get cross the map team wipes easily like in RtCW.

I just wanted to chime in(and necro this thread hehe) to say that I also feel the emptiness left in my heart by no rocket launchers in DB. This game absolutely screams for them given the layout of maps, their overall size, etc. And as others have mentioned, in this day and age, it just doesn’t make sense not to have them.
Another thought is that I’ve always considered things like the panzer the “great equalizers” of these games. Sure, we’ve all seen the “noob tubes” in action, but how else can a lower skill player stand up against an elite? In that regard they really help even the playing field out in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents
