Pre-order DLC... :|

(Mustkunstn1k) #1

Yes, this is another thread about the DLC Pre-orders. I would still like to make sure that the devs will release them after launch, if they have the chance (after pre-order bonuses for RAGE, New Vegas etc it is clear that this is something Bethesda does). I also have a question about them.

Before you guys post to this tread… please read my post. If you are the type who doesn’t care about this at all then this thread clearly isn’t for you. I will explain why the current pre-order bonuses are not good.

Here is the deal… I want to pre-order Brink, I have wanted to do it since it was announced. But I still haven’t… why? Because I can’t make up my mind, that is why. I can’t make up my mind about where to pre-order. Because currently it has been said that it is most likely that they will not be available later. So let’s take Enemy Territory for example… I played the game about until 2007 I think. Let’s say I play Brink just as long… then this one-time thing kind of becomes a big thing. Atleast ifor me.

The question is, why do that. Now, I am not talking about just like a little bonus for everyone who pre-order, that is okay. I am talking about dividing up content between different stores. Why make customers choose like that? Who does that help?

Does it help the store? Let’s say I live in America… There is a Gamestop right next to my home. Usually I would order from them. But now I can’t / won’t because I don’t like their pre-order bonus. The only stores that this is good for is the ones who have the “coolest” bonus. But I don’t see how this is fair…

Not only that but what makes things worse is that the content is kind of exclusive to one side. I mean it is obvious that Psycho and Spec-Ops are the most popular ones. But the Spec-Ops is almost exclusive to Security and vice-versa with Psycho. So it is obvious that people who ordered Psycho will often play Resistance. What if there are two friends who pre-ordered from different stores. Will they both place on the different sides because of that all the time? Yeah, I know, that would be stupid. But this is what happens and this is what people do.

So now the anwser seems easy - just make stuff available later. But you see, now it can backfire. I have heard rumours that Psycho and Spec-Ops will be available later… it is obvious because the other backs just have weapon skins or like a regular shirt / hat while these two backs actually have different weapons, weapon mods and very unique masks etc. So those people would definetly be very angry if that would happen.

And ofcourse the other choice is to make it all available. In the end it would not be that bad… it was still exclusive, but just for a certain months (a few months… whatever). Or they could make it so each pack is like 2$ or something. So people who don’t care don’t have to buy and people who pre-ordered don’t have to pay for their pack.

My question is… why not just made one pre-order edition… like Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Why not just give some first-day bonuses like double-xp for a certain time maybe? And maybe a few early unlocks.
Maybe not like a cool little thing for both sites. Let’s say “Pre-order dog tags” that people who pre-ordered could put on their characters. Why not something like that? I realise it’s too late, but I just don’t understand this decision.

I have posted this link a few times already… but let’s discuss really what is happening and where Brink could end up:

Look at other games at the list. Let’s digest this information. Brink is going to have exclusive multiplayer items, weapons even. And it will be impossible (unless you buy 1+ copies) to get them all. No other game, publisher or whatever pulls this kind of a thing.

And now, for the question.
Amazon.co.uk pre-order deal

Offer strictly subject to availability. One code will be issued per unit ordered, up to a maximum of four codes per customer. Please ensure all copies ordered are in the same order. A broadband internet connection is required to redeem the incentive, along with an active PSN, Xbox Live or Steam account. Incentive is only available for UK accounts, and may not work on non-UK accounts. Offer valid when dispatched by Amazon.co.uk. Promotion valid on all existing pre-orders. Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time.

Can I still get the bonus if I don’t live in UK?:frowning:

I’ve never really understood why there are bonuses like these spread out between different stores

But eh, it helps them in some way I guess, maybe the stores compete and bid on which pack they get to offer, so they can get more customers?

(Crytiqal) #3

Are you really keen on having the physco revolver for the rest of your life even when better weapons become available?

(Herandar) #4

You live in Estonia, buddy. What’s not fair about making you choose between equal options? You have the option to purchase multiple copies, so quit complaining about any perceived lack of fairness. And I guess your parents didn’t tell you enough that life is NOT fair. You are (still) bitching about value-less cosmetic crap that ultimately is meaningless. You are upset about the exclusivity of exclusive items that have been promoted specifically as exclusives.

I do not care where Brink ends up on your little chart. I care about how the game plays, and how many people play online, and many other things that are relevant. I truly do not care about the pre-order items. But I am a nice guy. I’m getting two copies of the game, and if it matters that much to you, I will sell you the Psycho, Spec Ops or both*. PM me and we can discuss.

*Not 100% sure that XBox codes will work on other platforms, but we’ll talk.

Don’t you think revealing that these preorder bonuses will be available later would totally cancel the deals that these stores have with Beth/SD ? What would be their interest if people could only choose the cheapest and then buy the stuff they’re missing ?

I really don’t think you’ll have an answer on that one.

(Crytiqal) #6

You could also NOT buy a pre-order exclusive item so you don’t have to make this dreadfull decision and be done with it :s

(Ashog) #7

Preorder Nordic edition like i did - it has 2 DLCs in it. Better than 1.

(Shadedluck) #8

This is the way I did it. I want to be a fast type of person, and I want to be security. The Spec Ops pack gives me a machine pistol, and I get a security mask, even though I probably won’t use it. The Psycho pack, yeah, the mask is cool, but I don’t think I will be Resistance. The DOOM pack, I don’t really care about the game, so I won’t be using anything from that. The Fallout Pack, I was never a big fan of, so I couldn’t really care less about a couple of skins and a beanie. That’s why I chose the Spec Ops, it had what I wanted. Just remember, that if you decide you don’t want a different preorder you can always buy the others on ebay in the future.

There is no reason to play exclusively one side or the other because of your pre-order bonus pack, the stuff that potentially effects gameplay is for both sides.

Unless you are arguing that someone who wants to play with his friend won’t, because they each want to be able to wear an exclusive mask that they cant even see from first person view.

(tokamak) #10

Why make customers choose like that? Who does that help?

Exclusivity. The more people have your costume the less value it has. You probably want it because of that exact same reason.

I guess you missed the part where there is 3rd person view in BRINK.

(Mustkunstn1k) #12

Umm, items can be made exclusive other ways too. I mean currently it seems like they are just handing out clothes really easily. Which is pretty pointless as there could be much better ways for doing that. This way people need to work for their clothes…

(obliviondoll) #13

Only with one passive ability you can equip, and only when you’re actively performing an objective (without the “Sense of Perspective” ability, you’re locked into First Person permanently)

(Cankor) #14

Admit it, you don’t know what exclusive means do you?

You’re worried about being special and unique through a video game preorder. Don’t have your things define you, that’s just so worldly. There will be people who will get along fine with the “inventory handicap” they’ll have from not preordering. If the preorder bonus had a gun that was superior, non-preorder people would just get better at the game then and not use that crutch, which would make them more awesome than the “hah, im first and unique and better” people.

(DoHo) #16

Well, if we can’t see ourselves why bother with any customisation at all?

If better weapons become available why bother with low-tier weapons at all?

(Mustkunstn1k) #17

One of the things I still want to know about is if the pre-order bonuses work outside UK too…

(Crytiqal) #18

No, if you join an NA server you have to leave your clothes at the door…
