Yes, this is another thread about the DLC Pre-orders. I would still like to make sure that the devs will release them after launch, if they have the chance (after pre-order bonuses for RAGE, New Vegas etc it is clear that this is something Bethesda does). I also have a question about them.
Before you guys post to this tread… please read my post. If you are the type who doesn’t care about this at all then this thread clearly isn’t for you. I will explain why the current pre-order bonuses are not good.
Here is the deal… I want to pre-order Brink, I have wanted to do it since it was announced. But I still haven’t… why? Because I can’t make up my mind, that is why. I can’t make up my mind about where to pre-order. Because currently it has been said that it is most likely that they will not be available later. So let’s take Enemy Territory for example… I played the game about until 2007 I think. Let’s say I play Brink just as long… then this one-time thing kind of becomes a big thing. Atleast ifor me.
The question is, why do that. Now, I am not talking about just like a little bonus for everyone who pre-order, that is okay. I am talking about dividing up content between different stores. Why make customers choose like that? Who does that help?
Does it help the store? Let’s say I live in America… There is a Gamestop right next to my home. Usually I would order from them. But now I can’t / won’t because I don’t like their pre-order bonus. The only stores that this is good for is the ones who have the “coolest” bonus. But I don’t see how this is fair…
Not only that but what makes things worse is that the content is kind of exclusive to one side. I mean it is obvious that Psycho and Spec-Ops are the most popular ones. But the Spec-Ops is almost exclusive to Security and vice-versa with Psycho. So it is obvious that people who ordered Psycho will often play Resistance. What if there are two friends who pre-ordered from different stores. Will they both place on the different sides because of that all the time? Yeah, I know, that would be stupid. But this is what happens and this is what people do.
So now the anwser seems easy - just make stuff available later. But you see, now it can backfire. I have heard rumours that Psycho and Spec-Ops will be available later… it is obvious because the other backs just have weapon skins or like a regular shirt / hat while these two backs actually have different weapons, weapon mods and very unique masks etc. So those people would definetly be very angry if that would happen.
And ofcourse the other choice is to make it all available. In the end it would not be that bad… it was still exclusive, but just for a certain months (a few months… whatever). Or they could make it so each pack is like 2$ or something. So people who don’t care don’t have to buy and people who pre-ordered don’t have to pay for their pack.
My question is… why not just made one pre-order edition… like Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Why not just give some first-day bonuses like double-xp for a certain time maybe? And maybe a few early unlocks.
Maybe not like a cool little thing for both sites. Let’s say “Pre-order dog tags” that people who pre-ordered could put on their characters. Why not something like that? I realise it’s too late, but I just don’t understand this decision.
I have posted this link a few times already… but let’s discuss really what is happening and where Brink could end up:

Look at other games at the list. Let’s digest this information. Brink is going to have exclusive multiplayer items, weapons even. And it will be impossible (unless you buy 1+ copies) to get them all. No other game, publisher or whatever pulls this kind of a thing.
And now, for the question.
