"Pre-Order" Beta invites

(PSG_Mud) #1

No, I am not talking about getting beta from pre-ordering specifically.

I want to talk about signing up for beta, before it even starts. Like, pre-ordering a game. Watching the Chaos and exploitation of the SC2 Beta, I think did more harm than good for Blizzard.

BFBC2 as much as I don’t really like the game as it is now, did have an interesting concept of pre-ordering -> beta. It was more of a demo, but, an interesting concept non the less that benefits the players and the business. Fans, and people who want the game will have priority over, random invites.

If Pre-Ordering a game is a way to do this so be it. But, I really don’t want to not take part in a beta due to randomness. Brink is one of my most anticipated games since I first heard about it. Even more anticipated than Wolf. I knew SD was much more quality oriented, just by the little things they do.

Another way is to give a set amount of keys out on different fan sites only. The traffic would increase dramatically for the fansites. This will also satisfy all parties, because everyone has the potential to get in.

I really am starting to hate the idea companies are taking, to neglect the fans, to try and appease potential new fans.

better yet is no open beta, for fansites, contests, whatever. Closed testing is better, imo. A demo built from release build would be nice though.

Hoping for that system also

Whats the difference between closed and open to you?

I am pretty sure I was talking about a closed system. Unless you’re talking about invite only, or random invites.

I agree a small stealthy mature beta group who want to ensure the games success is better overall, rather than people from other sources coming in and demanding drastic game changes.

F1 to that

I got one thing to say…if there is a demo. Keep the main stream media the heck away from it. Get some real fps adult gamers to test it out. I can’t tell how many times I’ve read review and asked myself. Who the heck are these guys doing the review? Do they know anything about video games?

(brbrbr) #8

how about “closed publshing” ?
with same conditions.
and same results.

(INF3RN0) #9

Finished game–>short closed pre-order beta (limited content of course). Gives a head start on tech issue list, etc. The kind of stuff that would come up anyways, but at least you get some hype and people pre-ordering . Up to them, but it would get me to pre-order for the first time evarrr :)!

I have to agree BF:BC2 beta was a nice system, and it got a few things sorted with the game. Mostly issues with optimization but a good system none the less as it really did get that hyp factor up a notch as well

Same, I think the last time I ever pre-ordered a game was Starfox 64… or was it golden eye? I don’t remember, regardless its been awhile. I didn’t even need to pre-order BFBC2 because they were giving out invites for free on various sites.

closed publishing? I never heard of this.

There is going to be bias’ed criticism wherever you go. The biggest overall critic is the people who vote on a game with their money. IE just buying it.

(Joe999) #14

no, that’s not how it should be. in germany/austria all games get released on thursday/friday. so if you preorder your game at eg amazon, you’d get it on monday/tuesday AFTER release, not on the release weekend. that sucks hard and is idiotic policy, not to mention a bitch-slap into the customer’s face. i’ll never ever preorder a game again which i want to play on launch day. i learned my lesson with arkham asylum: while everyone was having fun with the game, i had to wait 4 days until the mail-mail drops by and brings the game.

You express the classy attitude of people that should NOT be allow to play in the beta, unless you were sarcastic there.

It looks like you just want to play the game.

It has been said before: no ‘massive’ beta should be needed, if you get a lot of dedicated individuals. First place to start looking would be fans of your previous games, and consistent forumees. And no, I don’t have an agenda here, I probably would not have time to test it anyways.
A selected few from the pre-orders might work as well, but not as a random pickings, and I don’t know how else it could work.

No massive betas though! People tend to treat it as a free way of getting their hands on the game too much, as examplified above.

Do u mean all Supreme Commanders or all players in the general ranks?
If SC, i get 2
If general ranks i get 3 beta keys

I can see you have some serious issues if waiting for few days troubles you so much, guess them few days means you wont be at top of online stats rankings or something silly like that or you wont get xbox points or whatever before other people.

I only got batman two weeks ago for £10 brand new, how much did you pay to try play on release day?

I’ll definitely be waiting for a demo before I think about buying Brink.
I can see you have some serious issues if waiting for few days troubles you so much, guess them few days means you wont be at top of online stats rankings or something silly like that or you wont get xbox points or whatever before other people.
Geesh. Normally you preorder something because you are pretty excited about it. Of course you want to have it early and not later than if you would have just went to the store and got it there. Don’t act so stupid.

(.Chris.) #20

Normally pre-order to secure a game that is likely to sell out in store on release day either cause it’s popular game that many will buy or it’s an obscure game that the store will only stock a few copies of, I dont think Brink will be either.
