Potential reward (s) for people who support this game?

(uWotm8-AU) #1

Hello all! Long time lurker with my first post.

I love this game. Have spent US$129 according to steam, and feel that every cent has been worthwhile considering the enjoyment that this game has given me.

I believe that a great thing for you guys to do is to reward people who have supported your game financially with a subtle reward, perhaps in the form of obsidian ‘supporter’ loadouts.

May give others an incentive to support you a bit more as well, which can only help this game grow!

Nothing OP like the best loadout for every merc, but perhaps a supporter crate for every $50 or $100 spent.

What does everybody else think about this idea?

PS - Aus, Asia, US west players, add me! uWotm8 on steam.

PS2 - Thanks for all your hard work devs and forum mods, looking forward to the Phoenix release!

The reward is the stuff you buy.

You should have just said TL:DR

(Jostabeere) #5

First you should rethink what “supporting” means.
Second you want things because you supported the game while you already got things for supporting the game?

(uWotm8-AU) #6

@laudatoryLunch your second comment makes your first comment obselete!

And it was just an idea, not a demand. An idea that could potentially help the game producers reap in some financial rewards while also helping the people who support the game the most feel a little special!

Anyways, we all know what opinions are like, thanks for sharing yours! B)

Don’t even get me started on how much I’ve spent, but every penny of it was a purchase. I don’t expect anything extra for it. Sure, it would be nice to see some new obsidian-style loadouts for all the open-beta testers or something at the end, but not something for JUST those who have invested money into the game.

Just my thoughts on it :L I like the idea, not the principle though.

@Faraleth I like the cut of your jib friend, well said!

Thanks for the mature and reasonable response

I’d prefer that the game doesn’t reward people for spending excessive amounts of money and instead offers us up interesting things for us to throw money at. Then we will all get something nice for our money and can help support. Currently, that’s not possible in Dirty Bomb.

Isn’t the warm, fuzzy feeling inside that you get from supporting others enough?

(Disquieted1) #11

A tag or ingame title that says “Beta Tester,” “Swiss Bank Account” or things like that?

(Faraleth) #12

LMAO! Love the “Swiss Bank Account” suggestion. XD I’d rock that so hard… :3

Wait wait wait, you’re buying carrots and expect to get potatoes for free too?

Damn son. I need this in my life.

Funniest reply I have seen all day.

But OP buying ingame things isn’t necessarily “supporting” the game.

It’s giving the developers another meal so they can be our code monkeys a little longer.

This explains my feeling quite well. I don’t find any interest in playing the fruit machine system. I only use it to grab the loadouts I’m looking for cheaper than I could by buying it directly. I don’t really like gambling. I like direct knowledge in what I buy.

I have all the mercs I want currently (I don’t own nader and phantom), and more than 50 bronze+ loadouts. All this through grinding except Bushwacker I’ve bought partly from my steam wallet. So I feel like being pretty full of interesting stuff while investing close to no money, and I’m still looking for something making real money spending worth.

Potential non-card related cosmetics would be an easy way to make people spend money. Hence I’m quite surprised when SD say they are thinking about making available through in-game money as well.

I did not buy founders pack back then because, sadly, I’ve always been mistrustful with SD games since et:qw (IMO, they totally missed a massive success back then with a couple of mistakes). But in my opinion, this is where you should have provided good amount of money to support them.

Exactly this. Exactly this. Holy shit why do we live in an age where people think they should be rewarded for buying things? You exchange money for goods or services, not goods or services + a high five.

Probably because it’s beta, and generally companies give “incentives” to beta testers who find/report bugs/test their product, not the other way around.

OP is talking about incentives for support, but incentives for beta testing are usually done by companies, which tends to be merchandise/gifts/rewards.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of games that have “spending goals” where you get a reward at that goal. It’s just a means of raking in cash.

There was a time where you were getting paid for doing what you’re doing right now. Finding bugs, reporting them… etc. Nowadays you’re paying them to do the work for them. It’s the least they can do… Because what the players are doing now is exactly what you just mentioned. Giving them money for a product plus a high five by helping them make their game better.

But where the fuck is my high five? I’m giving them one but I ain’t getting shit back. They’re leaving me hangin’ here.
