Possible achievements for the xbox version

(NiNja) #1

I wanna know what everyone’s ideas are on what achievements Brink will have… and, If anyone knows of any rumored or confirmed achievements.

(H0RSE) #2

the game isn’t even done being developed - getting a little ahead of yourself, don’t ya think?

(LyndonL) #3

I’d almost guarantee that the achievements will be standard across all 3 platforms aswell.

(darthmob) #4

There is at least one video interview where Rahdo talks about achievements. What I remember:
He doesn’t want the game to only have stupid achievements for the achievements sake. Eg. not only kill x enemies, kill x2 enemies, kill x3 enemies.
He also said they came up with good achievements in Fable (2?) so I would expect something along the lines of that.

(NiNja) #5

No dude, It’s just a great idea to think about. And who knows. Maybe SD will see some good ideas from this and use them.

Achievements are just more idiot excuses for anti-social gamers. Even the best intentioned achievement can be farmed to the detriment of the rest of the team.

That said I have to say I enjoy the shallow depth they can add to a game and if people use them correctly, they can be good guidance tools to learning game mechanics.

I just wish there was also a “Achievement Farming” kick vote in the game which blocked the offending player’s ability to unlock achievements for a week.

(LyndonL) #7

Meh, Lighten up… If it’s THAT important to people, that’s what achievement servers are for.

(NiNja) #8

I totally agree with you on that part… Achievements are fun to get, but only if you Earn them… Don’t be a noob and cheat the system.

(Voxie) #9

Love it or hate it, cheating the system is human nature. That being said, I still think achievements can be a nice addition to the game - especially relative to how little development time it requires - if done right (and looking at Fable II, I’m sure that Rahdo knows what constitutes good achievements).

I’ll lighten up the second self interested douchebags stop using pub servers to earn achievements to the detriment of everyone else on the server.

“I’m working on [insert Achievement, Upgrade, XP]”, should not be in a gamer’s vocabulary.

To translate.

“I’m planning on serving my own interests above the team and accept that means giving less that my full attention to the primary goal, ie to win”

So, Left 4 Dead 2 as an example…

“Hey guys, wanna try for the Kite Like A Man achievement. Do you mind not shooting the first tank?”

That would be unacceptable to you? Then you are the one not being a team player. If you’ve been playing the game for a month and know how it works, why is it so offensive to ask to spice things up changing playstyles to try for achievements?

Edit: Achievements are there to add another depth to the gameplay. They serve to further interest when the initial appeal of the standard routing/maps starts to wane.

When it doesn’t impact the game, fine. When everyone is intelligent enough to know that the game comes before some stupid achievement, cool. When everyone is in agreement and when they are not there isn’t any abuse, great.

But when the Tank starts piling towards me, screw you, your achievement and your predictable incessant whining when I unload on him.

Point is that yes, civil, intelligent, conversant gamers can manage achievements and multiplayer. Arrogant, selfish and probably somewhat dense gamers really need to be excluded from the fun.

BTW - Not wanting to partake in achievement earning does not make you a bad team player.

(LyndonL) #13

Haha, this clearly is one of your pet peeves lol…

Ah well, me n my friends love achievement hunting, and when we decide to go after the achievement(s) for the night, that IS our game/goal. But I guess that’s a clear decision. I can see what you’re saying though.

Microsoft introduced achievements as another method to have people want to buy their games. Having something a player can obsess over (gamerscore) is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

(tokamak) #15

How do achievements add depth to the gameplay? Just curious and intrigued.

(H0RSE) #16

Exactly - anything that an achievement asks you to do, a player can do without the achievement. It’s not like the achievements open up new content for the game.

(Nail) #17

they give the average console player something to do, rather than make a good game with repeatable gameplay, give them shiny baubles to obsess over

(tokamak) #18

Yeah that’s stretching out the original gameplay.

(NiNja) #19

Achievements make games just a tad more exciting, and it serves to push you an extra mile to maybe over excel in your already modest gaming experience. Lets say an achievement calls for 1,000 SMG kills, and you rarely ever use an SMG. Well you’d have to use it in order to get that achievement, and what if by going for that 1,000 kills you learn that you actually really enjoy using an SMG. You never would’ve realized that, were it not for the achievement.

(Nail) #20

The only achievement necessary is winning the game, everything else is an excuse for poor gameplay
