Positive feedback to Splash Damage

(INF3RN0) #101

Let’s just hope that most of the Euros are still here because they like the game and not just for getting a head start for hoped future tournaments. At a certain point everything has been tested to a full extent and feedback given, so when the game play just isn’t enjoyable after that point you end up waiting for the next patch log and trying again.

(Nail) #102

“we all already gave them plenty of our loot to help test”
I doubt the monies received would fully cover costs of the swag and it’s shipping

there’s a lot of “Fixthis” “Fixthat” and then people all butt hurt when it isn’t instantly fixed, we have no idea of the timeline the different teams are on. I don’t build games, they do. I trust them.

and yes, I bought Brink, actually 3 copies, never could get the PC version to run, except on the free Steam weekends. Even so, I’m still here and happy with DB so far, maybe more so after watching some of the show matchs

(rand0m) #103

New e3 wolfenstein trailer looks good shows gameplay finally, shame its not multiplayer, should have got involved there SD, could have made a spectacular MP for the new wolfenstein rather then your own IP. Wish SD could have gotten their hands on the idtech5 engine ;/. Never been a fan of unreal engine.

(Nail) #104

and people complain about fog in DB, visibility in that game seems to be about 10 meters.

SD wisely left the Bethesduh crowd

(Hundopercent) #105

Hard to give feedback when.

Paid 120 for forum access and now they’re deleting my posts so pretty much paid for nothin.

(Hundopercent) #106

New wolf looks like **** with all that screen shake and 30 FoV. Another company dropping their pants, spreading their cheeks, and unloading an avalanche of fecal mud on a legendary IP. -_-

The days when making games was about having fun and not $…

I think there are 2 issues here.

  1. First of all they have a team of people working on the game, as they must, who have different skills and do different things, so it makes sense to work on everything concurrently. It wouldn’t make sense commercially to have a group of animators, for example, working on one aspect of the game, then when they’re done a group of artists come in to skin the animations. What do the animators do while the artists are doing their thing, and vice versa? Unless the team are working on several games concurrently it makes sense to develop the various different aspects of the game at the same time.

If you were a lone developer you might do things in a certain order, but when you have a team of people working on different things it’s to be expected that some elements will appear to be getting ahead of others.

  1. You assume the core gameplay needs fixing based on what? You don’t like it? If the gameplay is at a point SD are happy with it, it’s not going to change because a few Alpha testers wanted RTCW2 and didn’t get it. From my perspective I very definitely wanted RTCW2, and specifically RTCW2 not ET2, and sure as hell not ET:QW2. For me it’s very much a case of RTCW > ET > most other FPS’s > ET:QW > Brink.

But … DB is nothing like as bad in that respect as it’s being made out to be. The gun-play is pretty solid. Shotguns / SMG’s / AR’s / MG’s all seem to co-exist fairly well, there’s a fairly good class mix most of the time. While it’s true you can’t just go Medic and “pwn noobs” like you might have been used to in ET, for me that’s a good thing. Since the last patch, and particularly on the SW server with the new spawn times, the game is hugely more enjoyable. Certainly before the last patch I would play 1 map then leave in frustration. Now I’ll play for several hours, if there are people around to play with.

There are a lot of things wrong with the game of the kind you’d expect in an Alpha, tripping over low curbs, getting stuck on scenery etc. The maps need work, none of the existing maps are particularly competition worthy, the “doc-run” mechanics need a major re-think, but with the content we know is coming and another half dozen maps, this will be a seriously good game IMO and for the first time in a long time I’m looking forward to it.

Civil posts don’t get deleted. You just give yourself less rep each time you lose your cool so it’s in your best interest to express yourself less dramatically so they don’t have a reason to do that stuff.

(Kl3ppy) #109

I’m Euro, I play DB not because I will get an advantage in comp but because I do like DB somehow.

And I love discussing ideas how to improve DB, thats what I really like: Play the game, get an idea, voice it and discuss it!

(MrEd) #110

So much for being the positive thread…

(iwound) #111

MrEd is funny.

(Hundopercent) #112

Sorry about that Mr. Ed.

ky jelly

jerk jerk

You guys are doing a terrific job with the game. Ignore empty servers, countless constructive posts with concern of the direction the game is going, and a divided community.

Am I doing this fluffer thing right Inferno, Nail, and the circle jerk gang?

(Rex) #113

I guess you just caught the wrong thread.

(Hundopercent) #114

I was baited by Anti on that post. What level of downgrade does it take to think that a stacking blind aura is a good idea? This guy is the lead game designer and wants an explanation as to why thats not a good idea. I was baited or hes a drooler either way my post was warranted.

(jRAD) #115

It’s really not warranted at all - time to take a breather.

(Anti) #116

It’s pretty simple, people can disagree on whatever they want but if they’re going to make a point, or dismiss somebody else’s, we’d like to see the justification for that. We could always make a blind assumption about why they said ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but assumptions make a fool out of you and me so we’d much rather have the reasoning stated.

I’m sure random wouldn’t have been happy if we’d assumed “that guy said no to auras, but that means he’s still OK with talent trees, huzzah!”

(tokamak) #117

I don’t follow. Did someone say stacking blind aura?

(Kendle) #118

I guess Strych was referring to your post in Inferno’s meta thread :-

Assault can be a walking flare partially blinding opponents.

To be fair, I see where Strych is coming from, if the Devs need to be told that’s a stupid idea it calls into question their own thought processes. You’d hope that not every stupid idea requires an explanation as to why it’s stupid, you’d hope the Devs would just “get it” all by themselves. We may not always be on the same page as SD but you’d hope we’re reading the same book. Some people around here aren’t even in the same Library.

Kendle, in game design there are no stupid ideas, game design is subjective and each player views each feature differently. What is obviously bad to you is obviously good to somebody else, and in that case neither of you would be right or wrong, you just know what you prefer. We don’t need to be told anything, but we’d prefer not to make assumptions about a player’s reasoning either.

The alpha exists so we can try to make the game that we believe in and have it align with the the common beliefs of our community, ones that we more often than not share. If we are going to achieve that it’s best that we don’t assume anything about the feedback you folks provide, because our subjective view on a point might well differ from what the player intended.

(Protekt1) #120

Its hard to stay positive when you can’t and have not been able to play a game you paid 120 bucks for due to lack of testers. That is the price of 2 full priced retail games.

I understand why you don’t want to see negativity but you have to understand our point of view. I have been here for about 3 months now and I have played less than 4 times on US servers.

I can understand strychzilla’s ire at the situation, 10000%, which knowing him comes through in his posts.
