Shooting while sprinting… Just can’t imagine how ridiculously would weaps viewmodels animations look like.
Positive feedback to Splash Damage
my positive feedback to splash damage is that even though i only played the game once with other players (when i got invited), i still want to pay them money… and i’m definetely not the donor type person…
i read patch notes, i roam the maps solo after each patch and that’s enough for me to throw my money at them. isn’t that weired? i’m still hesitating, but i don’t know how long i can hold myself back to go to the founders page and loose some of my money. i will, rather sooner than later, that’s for sure, but i’m going to wait a little longer… maybe when i have the ability to join a full server 24/7, i don’t know… right now i just don’t want to ruin my gaming experience when i play against the vets and get owned like i never got owned before.
The best thing about this whole business going on here is that the devs take their time to contribute to the spam wars here in the forums. x)
This dialogue is just great, for me it is an additional motivation to keep things rolling
thanks for your efforts, the holy cake shall be with you^^
Had to bump this thread after reinstalling ETQW the other day. THANK YOU for having such a flexible net code for DB. It’s literally impossible to play ETQW with 200ping, and even 100+ is pushing it. I find ping to be almost a non-issue in DB and besides the slightly skewed damage priority in favor of low ping, I have a very pleasant experience at 200+. Keep up the net code improvements for DB, but in my opinion it’s already miles ahead of many other games. International versus play is actually a very doable thing, which is a nice change!
The few rounds that I was able to play had my blood pumping which hasn’t happened in a shooter in a very long time. Should invite more people to the alpha so I can be in a constant state of high adrenaline! Also the continued responses in thread topics from the developers is a major plus in my eyes. Shows me that you are 100% willing to really listen to us, even through the arguments in some threads.
There have of course been issues but hats off to SD for being brave with their ideas, not all of which have worked of course but its an alpha and that’s what its all about. I’ll admit I’m not playing as much as I used to but this game can be great fun even in this early state. I have personally seen issues I’ve raised being fixed in literally the next patch, that is pretty unheard of for an alpha. We could do with more players (esp more fellow pub players as I feel its a bit comp-focussed atm and a lot of pub players aren’t playing any more).
I like the current forum activity of the devs as well. was worse when I joined in some month ago
I think the exact opposite. I usually have very specific players where i can tell exactly that there is something wrong with the way packets arrive from them to me or from them to the server to me. Especially you
I have that only with very few players (high pingers mainly), but you should see the other side as well. It makes it really hard to play against, because it feels like a clear disadvantage, packet prioritization. My shots usually lag behind because of this. There is no insta feedback.
In addition i have the feeling that there is something wrong with hitregistration in general in the netcode maybe due to packet loss or something (maybe because i use fastpath in my network settings?) + when i meet high pingers (you :P) and you make a series of successive hits i will not get instant feedback of these hits on the other side. This usually results to something like insta falling to the ground and not hitting you for microseconds, because a bunch of packets seem to arrive all at once. Normally i incorporate hits from the enemy into my play a lot, so that i can jump back into cover just at the right time, stressing that out as much as i can … doesn’t work in DB and with some players …

Yeah we played EU a lot a few months ago and they thought we had an adv with high ping. Did a few rounds on US and then they understood how terrible it was to scrim with 100+ ping. Though it may be better than 10 years ago, I would say its far from international competition being viable.
This is the main reason I still have faith in the game. Seeing them respond and update us on what they plan on fixing and implementing is huge for me.
Low ping has a damage advantage as it stands. If a high pinger kills you, then they more than likely would have done the same at low ping. As far as no-reg, it mostly has to do with the slight delay before death as the numbers are added up and of course the high TTK sort of makes things fall together quick. I haven’t really had any serious issues hitting people since the dot crosshair made it more clear also. I haven’t had any problem getting hit myself either, and based off of one of the net graphs on youtube I have one of the more consistently stable connections. If your having issues, then it is most likely on your end I would think.
Still I don’t find it impossible to kill people on 200 ping, which is a huge change from other games- though it could be better of course. In a lot of cases people who played ETQW were used to most NA players not being able to kill them on EU servers simply because it was a huge uphill struggle on high ping, and thus assumed there was some ping related problem in DB when it was really more of an even playing field changing the experience there.
That is not necessarily true. If the guy with high ping has packet loss they can appear to be warping, impossible to track, and even have some of your shots not register since the server does not know where the player is positioned. That information is also delayed by your ping. On the other hand, they may still be able to shoot you since may not be warping to them. This is because download is often more stable than uploading. Why? Because network companies throttle your upload capabilities as their right to do so under whatever plan you pay for. This is further impacted by terrible routers and network traffic on their local network which will cause many packets to drop at random since routers do not prioritize packets on their own. And according to a UE3 dev I spoke with about packet loss, he said even 1% packet loss is a huge amount of packets to lose and will cause shzt to go haywire.
Ping really has little to do with it unless you’re like 200ping+, from what I understand. Its all about packet loss. Chances are you’re gonna have more packet loss over longer distances so a guy with 200 ping could, but not necessarily, have high packet loss.
In either case, and this part is not addressing anyone in particular, I think high ping impedes the experience for everyone involved. So I seriously hope DB puts servers up in South America, Austrailia (I guess they have AU already right), East Asia. These appear to be the 3 non-NA/EU markets that will flood NA servers and just drive every NA player nuts until they rage quit the game. If its financially viable (at all), having these servers will make NA/EU region players happier, playing longer, and spending more money. This should probably be its own thread!
yeah they have AU servers but its only me and Humatee playing the other 16 or so are about as reliable as my old commodore, i just use it to map test really since at higher pings i warp around when jumping
SD, thank you for rats! They are great! They even scared me when I was lying incapped on WC and they suddenly ran almost over my head! ^^
Thats a nice idea, maybe we can get this into the game!
If noone revives you, the rats start eating you alive while you lie on the ground unable to move
Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m in love with YoshiChief right now.
Please keep up the good work of bugging all reported issues and the feeding back of what’s been done is much appreciated.
