Ports Servers and IP

(ETdemin) #1

Hi!

I have read some posts but they seem to be old with no more working link…

Please, can you say me if there is a real problem to install Many Wolfenstein Enemy Territory server on the same IP ?

I have read on the link under that game need UDP ports from 27950 to 27965 opened/forwarded
WET requirements

I suppose that if creator’s of the game have indicated UDP ports from 27950 to 27965 it is certainly because they have done the best choice for the best working for gaming ?

I search something that work the most perfect as possible :
In that case I need to know if I install more Wolfenstein Enemy Territory game on a Linux server (CentOS) and if I use the same IP for all server and that I use other different ports than those indicated (27950 to 27965) : Will all that different installed servers on the same IP will working very good ??

Thank You !

first of you can have as many servers on 1 ip as you like (although you might run out of memory, cpu power or ports)

the default port used by et is 27960 but you can set any port you like with the net_port setting

also on linux you don’t have to install w:et more than once, use the global install and create a user for each server you want to start, then you can place the server specific configs and maps/mods in the ~/.etwolf directory

Thank You for your answer

It seem that IP sharing do not give problems… for that all seem to be all right : and I feel it too.

About the fact to share the same WET folder with the same IP and many users to obtain many servers working at the same time : I feel it seem to give an amazing latency in the gameplay; it’s certainly tiny but can be felt by good players.

And the dark side is that it can give incomprehensible cause of small other bugs. I got these kind of bad experiences many times with hosting services : “We are sorry but we do not know from where is coming your problem”. :stroggbanana:

It could explain (without regarding the simple aspect of a better file access for customing) why some hosting services propose 1 server with 1 full game folder.

Maybe that many will not agree with me. Nevertheless I think that what I say is not false.
I am interested to know if some have other better ideas about the cause of amazing problems ?

Thank You
