Seeing that the free RTCW Enemy Territory mod is one of the most played games on the PC side, how easy do you think it would be to release to the Xbox version of RTCW as a content update? I know the PC version is at least 150 MB, but that is considering the textures, models, and maps included in that single file.
I mean… since the Xbox version already has the textures and models of RTCW, I am guessing the port of ET would only really require new maps, a gametype or two, and maybe some GUI updates.
Has anyone else been thinking how cool it would be to have an ET option in their Xbox RTCW?
Now why would I want to play it on the Xbox my computer totally blows the xbox out of the water and god having to play with a gamepad.
Besides ET and RTCW are totally different in terms of engine and graphic. The ET textures are not in RTCW (sure some are but not enough) also telll me how is a game who minimum requirments going to play on a system that has hardware less than the minimum?
Also unless MS sets up ET server most people with an xbox have cable or DSL and the upstreams are so small you could hardly run a 2 person server before the lag gets soo bad.
Simple. By getting a different controller to use for that game. There’s LOT’S of options out there, hon. And not everyone has a computer that ‘blows the XBox out of the water’ either.
Actually, the XBow blows my system out of the water, at least as far as graphics-cards go. For raw CPU power, I win, but I think the fact that it has a video-chip several times as powerful as mine more than over-shadows the fact I have about 1.5x as much CPU as it does.
If the ET ‘update’ was compatable with everyone elses ET, they’d just play on everyone elses servers that already exist. That’s a no-brainer, hon. This is a ‘reason’ that is invalid at its core argument, so I’ll skip any further time wasted on it.
Don’t call me hon I’m not your gf or wife or your bf. BTW 1GHz machine with a geforce 3 or 4 would be better than Xbox.

So instead of paying $200 for a graphics card you got an xbox… Why? You already said you have a pretty good CPU why not a good video card. Then you wouldn’t need a Xbox.

Again don’t call me hon! Also why would they make it compatable? They didn’t for RTCW. If they did I doubt they would cause who would want to listen to all those people rant about getting their ass handed to them by those PC people with a mouse and keyboard who can turn in a snap and have better aim.
I will agree with voice chat would be a big help but frankly not worth it if I have to use a subpar system @ 640x480 on my TV with a keyboard/mouse hack to play. You do know MS doesn’t support a keyboard/mouse for Xbox in there words “It isn’t a computer” yes people make keyboards and mice but that still requires the game to use them.
I much prefer the computer version, but I can see the appeal of a nice relaxing game on the couch with a simple control pad, and a headset and at least I would’nt spill beer on my keyboard .
Give me the PC anyday tho .
turn your PC graphics down to 640x480 and your PC will have the same resolution as your xbox.
all of a sudden the xbox doesnt seem so powerful does it.[/quote]
Well, the Xbox is only $180 and is a pretty potent piece of hardware for that price considering it has a Pentium 4, hard drive, network card, a $30 controller, and GeForce 3 equivilant card.
If you were going to go with the PC route, that $180 would go on the video card alone, not considering if you can get a decent GeForce for around $180 that would be an equal to the Xbox.
Yup… nothing like a cheap yet powerful set top box that lets you play a great game like RTCW with anyone across the world with crystal clear voice communication and cheat free broadband only gameplay.
You can troll against the Xbox all you want, but I made the switch from PC to console games considering most PC games are crap anyways. “Oooh wow! FPS, MMORPGS and RTS games! Gotta spend $2000 on a rig for that!” Kinda sad when the “must have game” for single and multiplayer is still the 5 year old Half-Life.
Hey, if it helps get more exposure of Enemy Territory and give more value to Xbox owners of RTCW, I am all for it. I am sure many people share the same thought.

Actually, I meant gameplay for Xbox to Xbox users over Xbox Live, not Xbox to PC users.

Uh, a Pentium 4? This is what I found out while looking up the specs on the x-box:
CPU: 733 MHz chip crafted by Intel
Graphics Processor: 250MHz custom chip named XGPU, developed by Microsoft and nVIDIA
Total Memory: The RAM in the Xbox will be supplied by Micron, it will be 64 MB running at 200MHz DDR (Double-Data-Rate)
Storage Medium: 2-5x DVD, 10GB hard disk, 8MB memory card
A similar PC rig is not going to run you $2000 by the farthest stretch of the imagination. I find it somewhat amusing that MS actually loses money on each x-box sold. Their goal is to establish a strong market share and then make their money on games and game-licensing. Its a good plan, but its still funny that they lose money on the console itself.
P4? Uh… NO.
edit: Dang. Someone beat me to it, barely.
Least I know what it is though:)
The Intel-developed Xbox CPU is based upon the company’s Pentium III line of processors and clocks at 733MHz.
A pentium 3!
You can get a GeForce 4 TI4200 for under $90. Half that figure, and it will run almost every current game at good FPS. Far better than whatever is inside the XBOX. Far far better.
$2000? Nice figure there…
What… You went by alienware’s website or something?
You can buy a top of the line PC for $600-700, a very good PC for $500.
Not to mention the Frames Per Second the XBox runs at would make most gamers laugh. If my FPS dropped to the slow rate a TV can stand, I would quit playing untill I got it up.
My PC cost about $100 more than a XBox cost 13-14 months ago (when I got my PC) and I can still run every new game at high resolution, at 3-10 times the FPS the XBox runs games at.
