Poll: Your opinion on changes in Qake Wars

I’d like to see whats yours opinion on the changes made in Quake Wars. If you participate in the poll you should also leave a comment explaining how you voted and why.

Personaly, I think asymetric teams are the most important feature. One of the things that botherd me a lot about ET were completely identical teams, which could sometimes make the game so boring. Its time that team FPSs move forward and introduce teams that have diffrent play styles and use diffrent strategyes. All in all I think it will make the game a lot more fun and longlasting.

I didn’t vote as I think it will all blend in, with no obvious factor. It will all be there, but it will all contribute. Those concepts aren’t fighting for your interest, you’d just take them for granted and see how well the game plays.

Slight OT example: what makes fuchsia great? Is it the red, or is it the blue? I’d answer “both, as it’s only the result that counts”.

ET has got 1 team… lookin @ weapons. Everything is the same exept the skins so… Asymetric gameplay will make qw btr imo

I voted for ‘Asymmetrical Teams’.

I guess vehicles will be the biggest change from W:ET -> ET:QW, but if anything will define ET:QW apart from everything else in the genre it’ll be the asymmetrical teams.

Can i choose them all?
Well this is my priority list:
1.Implementation of Vehicles
2.New Class Functions and Abilities - including the Deployables system
3.Larger and more open Maps
4.Asymetric Teams

I’m a bit vorried about asymetric teams, this is very hard to balance and propably one reason for et:qw delay (just my opinion). And in ET i have seen people arguing about differences between Thompson and MP40 :roll:
People will now have excuses like: ‘i didnt die because u have better skill, but better gun’ kind of whining.

Only completely immature people will think that they only died because of weapons only. Its like all the whiners in ET who whine about panzers and rifle nades, immature. Get over the weapon selection and get on with the game.

Deployables.

Larger and more open maps has been done in ET through user maps, so nothing really new there.

Asymetric teams are interesting, but they are really not that different. Both sides have a medic but with minor gameplay differences for example.

Vehicles I’m undecided on. Either they will add to the game alot, or drive the gameplay away from the infantry model we love in ET.

In the end, it’s the vehicles and deployables that will greatly change the way Quake Wars plays. I voted for the deployables mostly because I know how much they added to Tribes.

Hopefully all of those things will work out fine in ETQW. I’ll vote for the feature I like most once the game is out. :tapir:

It doesn’t make sense to compare it with ET though (imho) since a game isn’t about single features but an entire package. For example “larger and more open maps” would not improve but degrade the quality of ET (still imho), but can no doubt work really well in another game.

Naturally all of these changes are important and they should all be included in the final game. Its just that not all of them will affect the quality of the game in the same degree. And since you can hear a lot of diffrent opinions in the communitiy about the new features in QW I just wanted to see what you guys think.

You are of course entitled to your own opinion, but you can keep the W:ET-like gameplay if you focus the action only on a small part of the map.
Eg. in goldrush, certain players abandoned the tank only to place mines at the axis spawn. I think you will see the same in ET:QW, some players wander off but most still go for the main objective.

I tend to die more from panzer than get panzer kills. I hate panzerfaust because no only do I get killed with it, I can’t even get a kill with it because I suck with the panzer. Soldier is the class I think is the most useless to the team. Your objectives is to kill people.

At least now soldiers “stole” the engineers abilitiy to blow things up and all classes are vital to the objective

For assymetric teams, in starcraft, the games are usually one on one. People play the same race and get good at it and not touch the other races. Now the problem here lies that you are forced to learn both strogg and gdf tactics. I’m a random guy in starcraft where I pick random races, here I’m willing to pick both races depending on which team has less people.

People who are very good with GDF but crap with strogg will tend to pick GDF. Then if strogg has less people, and he is forced to pick strogg, then he will suck.

I don’t really know how this problem can be fixed though. That’s why my main class will be engineer/constructor, or Field ops/opressor because both those classes are the most same to each other compared to the other 3.

The only difference I see is that GDF have hitscan weapons while strogg has projectile or hitscan but see trail weapons.

In the Wolf ET days when it was new, are there any situations where people will say “I am an allies guy” or “axis is where I’m at”? Now for ETQW, I see some sites dedicated to only one side instead of the game as a whole. The asymmetric teams are good and should be kept, but it does not stop people from leaning to one side.

Keep the assymetric teams and for those who lean on one side, be a man like myself and pick both sides. I’m not a GDF nor a strogg fan, I’m a fan of both and will pick both sides if depending who is losing.

I played a lot of Starcraft and Warcraft aswell and I remember a saying that goes something like “He who is a master of one race is a master of none” :stuck_out_tongue:
Honestly, won’t the game be a lot more fun and longlasting if you have 2 diffrent teams to explore and get used to? After all, if the sides are as balanced as the SD is promising then technically it doesn’t matter which side you play with, only how skilled you are.

true but it does not stop those unskilled who pick only one side though.

In these situations, it isn’t “Don’t hate the player, hate the game”, but “Don’t hate the game, hate the player”.

I always tell my brother who is a huge Warcraft 3 fan that only sissies pick orc all the time. Be a man and choose random.

My brother says that noobs pick random because they don’t which race to pick. I say pros use random because they mastered all 4 races and don’t want to choose.

This applies here too. Pros learn how to use both teams. Noobs are one sided and only pick one team. If you can’t learn the other team, you are a noob and in tourney situations, if you don’t learn both teams, you might be forced to use the team you suck with.

Those will only be on pub servers anyway. And there, admins can balance teams.

Ya, I guess admins can do that, but how? These one sided guys will just spectate until there is enough space for their precious team.

There is no way to eliminate them. We will be always seeing the same guys on the same teams.

I’m so picking a server where being a one sider isn’t allowed.

I guess that SD is delaying the game because of balance issues is this:

SD needs to make both sides different without creating one sided people who only play one side because they think they are “cooler” than the other. So making the team assymetrical, but keep the feel the same for both teams.

And I think these recent posts should be moved to about assymetrical teams post. I think it fits there.

That would be a good quote if it wasnt refering to Nerdcraft :stuck_out_tongue: Still sightly good tho but i agree with the point being that u can hardly play a game and be solely good at one class/side etc. Works the same for et, if only good at class but server has limits what would the player do then? One sided argument could also be used in ET as some people may only like playin axis as they defend more but this hardly creates serious problems.

I dont really feel u have a valid point about the teams and would highly doubt that balance issues are the sole reason for the perfection of QW being completed.

Back to topic, I want roller boots or a space hopper in the final game!

Looks like a lot of people voted for vehicles. I hoped they would explain their vote. Some people think vehicles wont function in ET style gameplay, others plan to just wait and see what happens. Im interested to see what you guys think of this new feature.
