Poll : Ranking System

Most of the 360 games got voice chat and a ranking system… so I guess that they will probably get both for Enemy Territory. So, if they got both, why shouldnt we be able to get those thing…

I dunno, but I would be ready do sacrifice all the crappy mods that made most of the W:ET servers unplayable. (double jumps mods fulled with damn weird things which doesnt add any challenge)

Ok so, heres the option :

  • Ranking System that doesn’t add any unlock, just giving stats maybe awards (medals)
  • Ranking System that add unlock affecting gameplay…
  • Ranking System, allowing mods at the same time, which would create a lots of fake stats
  • Ranking System for a special mode only like “Tournament Mode” which people could create and wouldnt be able to modify any minor settings. Theres would be also the normal servers with or without mods.
  • No Ranking System.

Ranking System without mods little note : No mods servers would be displayed and taken into the browser / stats server. So if ID/Splash Damage would wanna add mods, there could be the option like in Quake 3 Arena to select the mods first, and after the browser will show the servers made with that mod.

All the possiblity listed should be really possible and easy to add, exepting the one with new unlock, but anyway, I don’t thinks its gonna win the poll.

And it would be nice if the developpers/web menagement team could take count of the results.

Thanks for voting

Should I have been registered, I wouldn’t vote one because the options are still not good enough. Some of my thoughts:

[ul][li] Ranking System without unlock, only awards or medals: this is how the stat system is currently advertised.
[/li][li] Ranking System with unlocks affecting gameplay: we’re talking BF-like here, here we need serious countermeasures to stop anyone from stat padding or stat hacking. This option is announced NOT to be used, let’s keep it that way.
[/li][li] Ranking System, allowing mod stat slots and/or access to normal stats: mods will probably have access to the regular stats seeing how the routines are exposed when the game’s SDK is released. If this wouldn’t be true (hopefully), I would give the stat system one or two mod-acessible slots which would be usable for a mod to write in, asking the user if he wants to save his new stats.
[/li][li] Ranking System with protected settings, no mods: needs hashing, certified configs and the like. Again, not safe for mods unless “protected servers” are offered. Not an option, see EA.
[/li][li] No Ranking System: preferred for most comp players, hated by die-hard pub stat lovers. Not really an option due to this conflict.
[/li][/ul]

Hmm for 360, or you are talking about the little rank that you get and got removed after each game without taking any permanent stats : /

The first option can actually be found in two others as well, being the locked down version and the not-locked down one.

Everywhere I read that ranks/awards/medals would be saved and visible if you point to someone else.
However, what would never be saved are your “rewards”. (Notice the slight difference) Those only last for one campaign, just like it were in W:ET.

I am more attracted to the W:ET and the future ETQW than the so-called “ranking systems” of other games. besides being flawed and exploited, they are fundamentally not a test of true gaming skill. I’m more impressed of a persons skill by the measure of their teamwork and their accuracy, rather than their longevity in the game. Look at some of the leagues for these other “ranked” fps games, they play with all vanilla weapons, not the “unlocks” that are acquired throughout the game. I feel that more or less subtracts from the game and defeats any purpose of playing the game whatsoever.

QW will rule!!

wish the forums had votekick:(

I don’t mind a ranking system. I just hate when people think they are good because of their rank. For example in BF2 you would have people whos kill to death ratio was 15 to 1, which is awesome. Only problem is that person acquire his kills by playing 90% of the time inside of a tank, which isnt skillful at all.

Ranks create point whores. I guess I shouldnt even care about them ust do what I do.

It seems to me that public statements by the developers of ET:QW have already eliminated a few of the options in that poll :?

(airon) #12

Ranking excludes mods if taken too far. BF2 took it way to fu**ing far, and I’m not just saying this as a BF2 player mysef, but find nods to this in all BF2 players I’ve met.

Ranked servers are a scam. Everyone remember that ‘exclusive’ deal crap in the beginning of BF2 ?

Even stuff that has little to do with the gameplay like so many of those funny medals, ribbons, badges and military ranks attract players. Let’s keep folks focused on the game instead of stats.

(Flesh) #13

Amen to that. Tracking stats is the only thing I really dont like about ETQW and I have to say that Im surprised that a company like SD decided to implement them. Altho I suppose this was prolly Activevisions doing

(Diecast5) #14

I dont think of the ranking, I think of player stats like tribes2. that’s my 2 cents.  :poke: :twak: 8)

(San_Pedro) #15

I like seeing where I rank in ET, but I don’t think a ranking system in ETQW should be integrated. I would like to Splatterladder work for ETQW though. I just like to see how I stack up against the entire ET universe, but don’t worry I only play to win, never just to raise my ranking on splatterladder.

I like stats :expressionless:

Yeah stats are fun, if you want to measure yourself to other player JUST TO GET AN IDEA. It is fine. And knowing how many total award you got, or headshot you did, vehicule destroyed. I DONT MIND, thats just funny.

Thats like the little stats at the end of Fable. No one loved to see how many people he killed? Stop thinking about your damn clan stats and don’t thinks we are all gonna judge people because of the stats. Everyone know that there’s abuse everywhere. It’s just for YOUR OWN satisfaction.

Edit : And I loved to remember that I kicked a chicken at 78 m.
