points stats

Please tell me there isnt goin to be any points stat system in Quake Wars as i dont
want another BF2 where teamwork goes out of the window cos they get more points by
spamming and spawn killing as such.

In BF2 publics there is very little teamwork as ppl are just after points nothing more.

Sorry, point stats are in. The huge difference with BF2 is that it’s only good for bragging value, no games get hurt by it.

Also remember that it might not give any clue on your K/D ratio, but for example shows your effectiveness on completing objectives, helping teammates or even something simple as how many hours you’ve been wasting your time on the stat gathering itself. So let’s all laugh if someone passes by with “spent 100 hours gathering XP points” in his stats.

The worst stat-whoring you get in ET is things like Field Ops throwing ammo crates around the spawn area so when a spawn wave comes they get like 5+ crates picked up and the resulting XP from it. This actually helps your team however, as it helps the Field Ops level up faster and become more potent, and gives newly spawned palyers extra ammo.

Isn’t the medic wound-and-heal trick more stat whoring than this? :moo:

(Hakuryu) #5

Yes, but seriously, how often do you see that? There are always plenty of people who need health packs and reviving. I think I’ve seen that happen a handful of times in the years I’ve played ET.

actually, there is something worse:

A medic and a fieldop of the same team facing each other. The medic shoots the field ops a few times, reloads, heals the fieldops, and gets ammo from the fieldops.
I mean… get a life?

Even better: let them get a job. Serisously.

Well, I think stat-whoring won’t be that much of a problem, as ETQW will have an existant frontline - it won’t be like BF2 where you can run around for ages not finding anyone to help (ammo/heal/revive) or fight. If you whored, you got points faster.

But in the ETQW-alpha you could already see that the gameplay is somewhat faster than BF2 and merely seconds after respawning you’ll find someone in need of your help. I believe that will render stat-whoring far less efficient than in BF2 (if you need that at all, 'cause high score != high skill)… :moo:

and if you do see a stat-whore - the voting system won’t let you down like BF2 does - i mean 30 responses to pass a vote - 51% is all that’s needed

The persistant ranking does not affect gameplay, thats all that needs to be said. Just deal with XP-whores the way you would in W:ET.

Indeed. The way I suggest dealing with them is to take note of their names and remember to never let them join your clan.

Anyone who thinks about their own stats in a team game is completely out of touch. Team games are about one team winning and one team losing. The least effective member of the winning team still “won,” and the most effective member of the losing team still “lost,” even if that player’s individual stats were the “best.”

Since an individual player by definition cannot win a team game by himself (discounting extreme situations such as a pro beating a team of noobs), the stats of individual players are irrelevant.
