pliers

(darrin) #1

when as engie you are constructing and your almost there
another engie comes with his pliers, can he take your xp,although he didn’t do much?
i think i saw this a few times today :???:

(Stee) #2

Yes he an take your XP, which is a bit annoying If your risking life and limb on battery to construct the ramp only for some other engi to come along and grab all the XP. But at the end of the day it’s a team game and it’s just something u have to deal with, I’ve inadvertently taken other engi’s XP several times beofre and I’ve had XP taken after I’ve done all the hard work, but it’s just part of the game.
As long as the ramp etc… is constructed I don’t really care.

(Formaldehyde) #3

Hmmm. This sounds like a bug. I’m almost positive RTCW gives the credit to the original engineer.

(Coolhand) #4

Shouldn’t matter who gets the XP… this game isn’t (or should not be) about points.

(senator) #5

It’s not about points but about leveling up. As soon as I’ve reached Lv3 or Lv4 I really don’t care that mucht about XP. And yes it’s a little annoying: almost finished building the Waterpunp in Oasis… another Eng. comes and reaps the reward. OK, than I’ll build the Command post instead… almost finished… the same Eng comes along, forks for 1 sec and gets all the XP :bored:
Hey, I’ve done 3/4 of the work and get nothing ? If they would at least spread the XP among all Engs who were working at the construction when it finished, that would be fair

(Coolhand) #6

Um, yes, well, once you get to level 4 then there’s nowhere else to go, is there?

To be fair, I think I see what you mean, but spare a thought for the poor sod (quite often me) sitting defending the objective just on the off-chance that someone gets through to the objective. That person isn’t getting any points / levelling up for playing what is quite often a crucial, map-winning role.

My point is that if you’re worrying about the one or two points or whatever it is that this other guy may have “stolen” from you, then you’re less likely to think of the other guy as a member of your team… when he is (honest, guv). Quite often “the other guy” will be me, since if I’m an engy and I see an engy going to build something I’ll get my pliers out and help him to get the job done more quickly. The last thing any team needs is to discourage this kind of activity!

Hmmm… might it not be better if all points were shared amongst the team members? Just a thought…

(BlackDeath) #7

Why dont they have it where the persone who did the most “work” gets the XP?

Or, XP is split in a percentage on what each person done.

(BLAUWROOD) #8

This is an Engineer-specific skill that rewards players for constructing/demolishing objectives and the use of explosives. Engineers earn 3 XP for repairing a vehicle or MG. They also earn XP for constructing or destroying constructible objectives: 5XP for a 50% of Power Bar objective such as repairing an MG nest, 7.5 for a 100% Power Bar objective like repairing a tank

whoops misread that

(McAfee) #9

you misunderstood that quote.

It’s just refering that the tank will take all your energy to repair, and a mg42 will just take half of your power bar. So you get more XP for the tank then for the gun. But he who finishes the objective gets the reward.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #10

Lets do a test w/ 2 engies w/ 0 XP on an empty server and see how this actually breaks down.

But I side with the ‘its a team game’ camp. Its about winning. If ET was like americas army where your honor points are carried over from game to game than I would sympathize w/ the point whores.

(Formaldehyde) #11

I’m a reformed point whore myself but I still think the proper eng should get rewarded for being first. Then again I’d probably TK an eng who was obviously coming along behind me to ‘steal’ my points…

(-ScOuT--{A}--) #12

After you reach lvl 4, you can still go up in rank, and ive been playing for a while, and ive NEVER seen a full General.

(Brinkman) #13

i would like all the help i can get…

from what you’re saying you want people to not help you finish the bridge or whatever… once you see a guy constructing something you SHOULDN’T help them… that’s just dumb…

help out… and if someone helps me out i’d expect them to get some exp

(Coolhand) #14

Oh, great… JUST the kind of thing we need…

(SmokeyTarget) #15

Hmm, I usually issue a quick “Thanks”/“Danke” when someone helps me finish contructing something. I also find that the majority of people on our servers do likewise.

Formaldehyde, maybe you are not quite as reformed as you claim…

(Vengeance) #16

The game is not about XP its about teamwork and completeing objectives.

(wudan) #17

XP helps to gain skills, which REALLY does matter when it comes to crunch time.

Yes, XP does help gain important skills - but the important thing is for your team to gain skills, so it should not really matter whether it’s you or the other engineer (in this case) who gains the points. The team benefits.

The way that the XP points are allocated is not perfect (as this thread illustrates). It is useful identifying these problems, since if they’re identified then there’s a chance that they’ll be addressed in future patches.

Once you start to spend too much time examining exactly how many points you get for this or that activity you risk all sorts of silliness. You end up with ridiculous situations such as the tank being repaired after the bank vault doors have been blown, or pointwhores who say they will TK other team-members for “stealing their points” :frowning:

Just ignore the points. Play as part of a team and you will rack up XP: play for XP and teamwork simply disappears :frowning:

(Freedom[]Tickler) #19

Both things are true, all engies shld cooperate to build/destroy objectives as quickly as possible and having an engie w/ 4 XP level is a boon to any team.
Ive seen engies lay on dynomite so no one could help them lite it up, which is a bad idea when E is close by.

Alot of these maps can be won quickly if the whole team hauls ass, its a foot race to the objectives.

I guess its like all these guys who get mad if a medic TKs Revives them. I had a teammate shoot me b/c he thought I was gonna do that, needless to say, I REVOKED HIS HEALTH CARE BENIES !!! bwahahaha.

People shld change their ingame tags to reflect their philosophy, in RTCW there was a player named "give medics ammo’ , perhaps we need ‘DONT TK REVIVE’, or ‘DNR’ for short, and ‘Dont Wh0r my XP’ or “Hands off Bitch Thats a Mans Hairspray” or “Give me chocolate, my uterus hurts”

(darrin) #20

sorry, but give me the adresses of the servers where you all play
the ones i play EVERYONE goes for xp
i know it is a teambased game but on a pub it is almost never
i am an old q3f player and it had(has :bored: ) the same problem
so when i found a decent server(s) i can go for the teamplay too
