The spam is just way too much.
nader isnt overpowered, but when there are 20 damn nades flying everywhere by low level pubs is not fun gameplay.
You cant walk three feet without 7 grenades being launched into every hole

Wouldnt be a problem if free rotations were individual instead of global
Or if just all mercs were free and SD focused on skins to make money instead of an awful RNG system no one wants to support
I’d rather see the entire free rotation system overhauled honestly, either be it through 3-4 rotations running alongside each other, randomly for each player, or through a rent-a-merc system that lets you choose 2-3 mercs for a week or whatever, which are then locked out on a month or so cooldown, which would eventually turn into a free rotation but personalised.
Right now we just get merc bloat, which is an awful thing to come into when you’re fresh at the game. I can’t really think that any new player would enjoy fighting 6 of any one merc, and I can’t say any veteran player really does either.
I rather have a enemy team full of naders then a team entirely made up by proxy´s.
With that said it doesnt matter what merc it is. if the enemy team is made up of the same merc it will be annoying one way or another.

Rent-a-merc sounds good but it might come with some negatives. For example, with the current system there is probably going to be at least one merc people will play. If there was rent-a-merc with cooldowns people would play what they want for the first week or two then they might decide to not play for a week or two which could lead to never playing again. So it could actually be bad for retention in a F2P game.
I think a random global rotation would work out better since it would work like what is currently in place but not end up with teams half filled with the same merc.
But yeah, it really does need to change. The current system simply causes too many issues IMO and there are no downsides to a semi-random system assuming there is a cooldown attached to mercs to ensure you don’t get the same ones.

They could make rent-a-merc actually rent-a-merc.
Say some new guy want to play stoker but doesnt actually want to pay for him.
He drops 1000 credits to be able to play him for 2 hours pure in game time, but can only use default loadout card.
This rate increases exponentially until eventually you may as well just buy him.
So say 1000 at first, then 2000, then 4000, then 8000, etc. This would stop spamming just one merc, give incentive to actually play the game to keep renting or save up to buy him, at little cost. If you dont like stoker and only dumped 1k credits into him who cares, thats two tier 1 missions which take about one match to do anyway.
Also make proxy free like aura/skyhammer to fill out their squad and give an engineer to new players.

Every merc becomes OP in the first week of free rotation, because an inundation of the same merc on a team (three, four, etc…) throws off already poor match balancing.
The whole “free rotation” concept is a very bad way of letting people try mercs. It throws off match balancing and every single time a new rotation comes out, people dread it and complain. No one, no one, no one likes this system. And every free rotation people come up with a lot of very good ideas to change the system, but it’s just one more “dust in the wind” thing to SD’s ears.
I say just learn to counter each merc that’s on free rotation. It should keep your DB skills in tip top shape!
Randomized rotation would be the best option for this. Just let RNG handle what free mercs for that week becomes available to each player.
its not that they are hard to counter. almost any player with decent aim and passable reaction time can dodge the grenades.
It is not a challenge or skill issue, it is one of annoyance.
Fighting one or two good naders can be a fun challenge, fighting 3, 4, 5, 6, or even 7 naders all shitting grenades in your general direction is an annoying chore. It stops being a challenge, and just a mood killing boner stabbing bullshit spamfest.
most people can dodge 5 nades being launched in a door, but when you deal with 15, 20, 25 nades being launched and another on top of those every 6(ish) seconds is dumb and bad gameplay
If I had my way I’d say get rid of free-rotation all together. It’s a goddamned horrible way to let people try mercs they don’t own.
I’d even go one step further and say remove the merc paywall as well and change the business model into character and weapon dkins. Maybe even do something similar to TF2 ($$) and put premium skins and special effects in cases so people can gamble their money away to SD.
I’d be happy, $D would be very happy.
Nader, Fragger, Fletcher. These three are arguably (For me) the most annoying ones to fight against when they’re on free rotation. It just invites spamming.
You misunderstand his point by a whole level. It’s not the fact he can’t counter a specific merc. It’s the fact that free-rotation leads to many people using the same merc, and certain mercs are just BS if coming in mass. Mine spam, nade spam, frickin minigun spam. It’s all really contraproductive for the fun.
Its not hard to counter nader and fletcher spam but the fact you have to do it is just super fucking frustrating.

It was always and will always be “l2p” or “learn to counter” arguement, without even bothering to understand whole post
While we’re at it let’s remove Vassili and Redeye from rotation because 90% just camp.
Oh and Bushwhacker because turrets everywhere.
Oh and Phantom because 90% just wildly flail katanas hitting nothing.
Oh and Thunder because they’re useless compared to other assaults.
Oh and Sparks because 90% just try to snipe and helps you up frickin’ manually.
Oh and Rhino because 90% just sit in one place with the minigun spinning.
…
Oh wait there’s nobody left. Maybe mercs are not the problem?
On 6vs6 servers it’s fine. Since humble bundle I saw more fraggers then ever but I don’t mind. Maybe you play too much proxy,Kira, sparks etc. Every merc should and will always be in free rotation. Maybe ban vassili though xd
Let’s recap a little
People are hating on free rotation because n00bs take them into pubs and suddenly half the server is playing one specific merc, annoying them, the elite players.
It’s not completely wrong to argue that it’s annoying to look out for mines placed by 6 different proxies, or dodge nades being launched by 8 naders or some crap, and because it’s annoying, free rotationshould be removed or altered, but at the same time, it’s not completely justified.
I can’t put my finger on what’s right or wrong about either side, but while the majority of one team being the same merc is a viable strategy, it’s not foolproof. I fought against a full team of rhinos before with not a whole lot in medics or explosives, and my team won.
Free rotation isn’t all bad, either, I played Nader for the first time during free rotation, and now I own her. Same goes for bushwanker and sawbonez, as well as kinda fragger, since I got him from a giveaway like half the community did and I expected to never touch him until I got my only CW case with him and decided I didn’t want it gathering dust one day.
On the same time, it can get frustrating when less-experienced players play either with or against you with a raid of phanties or naders or rhinos or what have you, one sure fire way to avoid that is min lvl 10 servers.
I’m sorry you didn’t get the chance to curbstomp some inexperienced lvl 2s and instead have to get mad at 5 stokers all throwing mollies at you and your team, but that’s dirty bomb, and sometimes you’re the ones being spawncamped, you can’t help it.
If we took explosive mercs out of rotation, we would be left with:
Vasilli
Rhino
Phantom
Bushwhacker
Sparks and the other medics.
Red-eye
Yeah. I’m good.
