PLEASE, Splash Damage, improve the friendly AI.

(Duckie) #1

Disclaimer: I like this game, so don’t get all butt-hurt about what I have to say. There’s no point in trying to tell me the friendly AI doesn’t suck, because you’re just a liar then. Accept that Brink isn’t perfect.

Owning the game on PS3, I have no other options than bots at the moment. My team’s AI is awful and broken. It feels like I’m allied with a bunch of blind children, and we’re up against the Navy SEALs. It’s not always the fault of the AI every time, as some of the objectives are placed in unfair locations depending on your side. That probably wouldn’t even be noticeable if it wasn’t for the shoddy team members though.

There is NO excuse. They call it a campaign, and it’s just botmatches. I could live with that if the AI was better. I was just playing Day 6 as the Security forces, and hacking that terminal at the end is damn near impossible.

  1. My team never tries to hack it.
  2. When I’m incapacitated and an enemy is removing the hacking gadget, nobody ever tries to stop them. They run off and ignore the guy, choosing a less important target, letting them undo the hacking I have accomplished.

Day 3 was almost as awful. If it wasn’t for a trick I figured out (as soon as I crack the safe, run like the wind with the data and don’t stop to fire a shot), I may still be stuck on it. My team splits up, and theirs camps the hell out of the spot I need to go.

If I wanted to be on a team full of retards, I’d go back to Call of Duty. :penguin:

Fear not I’m sure they will look at AI, the SD guys seem to be quite reactive in fixing issues

lol I like that team up with a bunch of blind children against Navy seals is pretty much how i feel when playing against the AI, I wonder if the devs played this and thought it was completely normal experience.

I think enough people are voicing this same complaint, so I hope you’re right. It’s killing me right now. No online and friendly bots that are completely unhelpful.

(Captain Judaism) #5

I will agree that when playing with bots I do appreciate the fact they are programmed to let you try and be the hero as they scurry and focus on the side oobjectives. It’s really annoying, however, that you never have any back-up when approaching the main objective, even on missiosns where you carry the objective from point A to point B.

Honestly it’d be a bit better if either A. When you are the class needed, IE Soldier to blow up a wall, that you’d get at LEAST a medic AI to follow you around to keep you healthy or B. if you are not the class needed, such as a medic, one of the AI would actually head to the primary objective if they were the correct class if you were nearby to provide support since 9/10 times the entire enemy team is camping that objective that a lone wolf wouldn’t stand a chance against.

(vexicat) #6

God yes please. at this point it’s literattly me against their entire team. It’s not like I can go play online, the servers are ****ty and lag like ****.

(PlaidHero) #7

I had said the same thing earlier! It’s the carry objectives that get me, I can’t play through the security campaign due to the complete lack of assistance. It is me against the whole other team. Insanity, I’ve never seen AI do so terribly.

(Lethargik) #8

@Gamer2Gamers - I totally feel your pain. I’m playing this on the 360, but despite having online access, none of my friends are playing this. I was really excited for BRINK and despite it’s short comings, I still really feel like it has solid potential, but the number one fix is definitely the AI. When your bot team mates are running around aimlessly, then game is near impossible and it feels like an unfinished game which is beyond frustrating. That said, there have been a few occasions where my bot AI squad has been on task with me and the game becomes so much fun! I can’t help but think that this is what the developers had envisioned for this game! Please SplashDamage, fix the AI!! Something as simple as having a follow/move freely option for your team and/or being able to ‘tag’ objectives in the objective wheel to send your squad there could totally turn this game around! Just my opinion on what could be a great game that just missed the mark initially.

(Kroktar) #9

i can understand your point and feelings.

But Brink Aims multiplayer 100%, sadly the fault is PSN.

I hope they will aim to fix all critical problems and improve multiplayer and competition, add more items etc DLC.

and after that improve campaing…but its just a botmatch like u said.

(Duckie) #10

I’m glad to see the positivity in this topic. Let’s hope Splash Damage addresses this quickly.

I just spent five hours of my quality time trying to get through the first two levels of the first training mission. It’s ok that I have to do the objectives, that’s how it worked in Quake Wars as well, but the friendly AI is totally brain dead. Example: no cover fire when I’m planting the HE charge. AI medics run straight into the room where I was killed when trying to repair the generator, only to be mowed down. These dudes didn’t even raise their weapons. It’s like they saw my “downed” icon and forgot about self-preservation.

And seriously, what’s up with “Get more efficient (two stars)” when I invite another player over? Only the two of us against EIGHT of the enemies? Sorry, SD, but I’m not RoboCop or Marty McFly.

Sorry - but that’s not what they’re advertising:

“Brink is an immersive first-person shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience”

They’re advertising a game that should be a rewarding experience no matter what mode (SP or MP) you choose to play. That’s not my uninformed expectation. That’s their words in their advertising.

Heck - I played a few rounds of Campaign on QW:ET on 360 a few days before launch - and it was fun and completely UNfrustrating playing with the AI. Was it identical to MP…of course not! But it wasn’t like playing with insane people either.

So…still holding out hope that Brink can eventually provide a fulfilling SP experience…but being honest that that isn’t the case right now.

Rahdo already explained this. The bots want you to be the hero. They give you a chance to do the objective.

If it was the other way around I’m sure everyone would be complaining that the game is being played for them. Anyway they’ve recognised it and can easily change it so the bots do the dirty work for you if that’s what you all want.

I don’t see one post in this thread asking for the bots to do all the dirty work for anyone.

(tokamak) #15

Read the first post then.

(Bakercompany) #16

This game just needs a couple seemingly simple things to go from good to amazing. AI Bots, game lobbies, stat tracking, and some different game modes would transform this game into 10 out of 10 for me.

Yeah - QW:ET has an option for “Bots can complete objectives” - which I typically kept off, unless I felt like playing a purely support role - If you’re alone with bots, and they have the opportunity to complete objectives - they typically do with “botlike” efficiency, with you as the lone human always a few steps behind.

But having the option would be nice - and more importantly - just an overall tweaking of the AI would be nice - with some basic AI command options. Being able to tell a bot or two to follow you and attack whomever attacks you would be huge.

Dead men can’t be heroes, and that’s exactly what you become if you even try to hack/plant a bomb/carry a package/repair.

It might just be me and a handful of people who are having trouble with this. Are you saying you’ve beaten the campaign and all the challenges offline with no problem whatsoever?

All that I ask, personally, and I’m sure other people are asking is this.

Competent AI that are capable of working as a team, as this is a team game. I don’t want them to do the work for me, not at all. but they do need to do some work for the game to be possible, rather than 15% possible 90% of the time. Guarding primary objectives, you know, important stuff like that.

(Bakewell) #19

This may not be relevant but recently a patch was released for the playstation game Catherine that made it easier because it was just too damned hard.
Hopefully splash damage will give the ai a little tweak soon because I really don’t like the sound of waiting to be picked up by a quadriplegic medic with onions for eyeballs.

If this is the case, then i really want to take a shoot at the challenges before/if they fix it, i feel like a dick now for asking them to implement the voice commands. I bought Demon Soul’s because people said is was fk hard. And it was hard, but not impossible
If this was intended from the start, then by all means… Bring it ON!!! I really need some training before i go to MP.
